The process to travel with a pet to India from USA is very straightforward. I try to outline the steps here in case if someone gets to this post. NOTE: These steps are ONLY if you are bringing the small pet with you and NOT for cargo AND you are doing transfer of residency to India. Check with your desired airline if they allow pets in cabin to India - this information changes frequently.Your pet needs a health certificate. This certificate is issues by Veterinary Export Health Certification System (VEHCS). Your vet can generate this certificate online by logging into USDA APHIS Application Access - Home to PCIT and VEHCS. - any USDA certified vet can generate the health certificateKey elements to be included in the health certificate are Owner’s name; Address in US and India.Your pet also needs a microchip, and the number of this microchip will be included in the health certificate. Your vet will help with the correct microchip. If all tests look good, they will issue you a temporary certificate and you can take your pet with you. Within 30 days, get a health certificate from local vet and produce at AQCS office and they will give a permanent certificate for your pet to stay in India with you.If your pet fails any of the medical tests, AQCS will quarantine your pet up to 15 days (or more if needed). Rebecca Remillard, a board-certified veterinary nutritionist who works with the MSPCA Angell Animal Medical Center in Boston, and the American Animal Hospital Association claim raw food diets are not necessarily safe nor nutritionally sound. There’s always the risk of Salonella poisoning or meat spoilage if the food is left out too long plus risks involving zoonotic (animal to human) disease transmission, food safety, and contagion issues and improper amounts of various raw foods being prepared by people with cats who are not fully aware of a cat’s full nutritional needs. Homemade Cat Food and Raw Cat FoodAs you might expect, The Spruce Pets Pros and Cons of Feeding Your Cat a Raw Diet also looked at the risks involved with raw cat foods and noted not only can some cats not tolerate raw foods but also, “It is important to know that feeding raw food to your cat comes with some risks. Cooking food removes most of these pathogens, which is why we humans tend to cook our food …Perhaps the greatest risk of feeding and handling raw meat comes down to cross-contamination. Feeding your cat a raw food diet can expose you and other people in your home to dangerous pathogens. Pathogens can remain on preparation surfaces, food dishes, in cat fecal matter and even on your cat (especially around the face).Raw diets should not be fed to cats living in homes with immune-compromised individuals. The study showed that, compared to other types of pet food tested, “raw pet food was more likely to be contaminated with disease-causing bacteria.”Subsequently, CVM expanded the study to include 196 samples of commercially available raw dog and cat food. Raw pet foods were analyzed for harmful bacteria, including Salmonella and Listeria monocytogenes.
