PDF Editor FAQ

What are the best airport tips?

Before every flight journey , just take a photo of your baggage from 4 different angles on your phone. You can either store it in your mobile or e-mail it to yourself. Why should I do that? There are good chances of losing your backpacks or luggages in the airport. So basically we have to file a complaint to the airport authorities under the section of missing baggage.Every passenger has to give a description of what his/her baggage looks like and what it contains.Almost every passenger knows what it contains but fail to give a clear description of what the baggage looks like. For example, if a passenger says he has lost his black case then airport authorities can never trace it ,as there are around 1000s of black cases in the airport.A photo gives a very clear description of the baggage and helps airport authorities narrow down their scope of searching.Chances of getting your luggage are usually higher if you have a photo. After all, it takes only a few seconds to take a photo.Pic Source: Google

If your luggage was put on the wrong plane and went to a different country, would you still be accountable if customs found drugs in it when it finally reached the right destination?

Let me tell you a real story. This happened in 2014 while i was working with Etihad AIrways. We got a bag at our central baggage tracing store which was returned from Kuala Lumpur (KUL) one of the many Etihad Airways network. The passenger travelled Karachi-AbuDhabi-Bangkok. However the bag went on a wrong flight from Abu Dhabi to KUL instead of Bangkok (BKK). Baggage staff at KUL realized the error and it was sent back to Abu Dhabi (AUH) Etihad Airways Hub. Baggage tag showed the passenger name as Mr Khan. And it ended up in our baggage tracing store. The bag looked similar 👇We checked with BKK team if there was any claim made by the passenger Mr Khan, and it turned out to be negative. So we had to open up the bag to verify if there was some tagging error, and we found few medical prescriptions under name of Khan from some pharmacy in Karachi. Apart from that there were no other clues like contact numbers or other credentials inside the bag. Contents were mainly gents clothing, food stuff & some medications. After noting down all available details we were closing the bag & my colleague noticed the bag top portion was bit heavier than normal & we felt something fishy. However we almost confirmed the Bag in fact belonged to Mr Khan because of the prescription found inside. Our baggage store is remotely monitored by Airport customs, CID, police etc thru CCTV cameras. Since we felt some thing wrong with the bag we took it straight away to the customs desk and informed them. Customs supervisor on duty came and asked us to cut open the bag top portion. And we found almost 10packs of some greenish powder like substances inside small transparent bags!!! Perfectly concealed inside the top part.Well it turned out to be Hashish around 5kgs. So we found drugs in bag, worth a fortune if sold outside market. However the whole bag was duly handed over to the customs and they took all available details of the passenger from our reservation system for their own investigation. Additionally they also reviewed the CCTV footages from our baggage store to ensure we did not have any involvement in this. They started investigations and it seems this passenger actually traveled on the flight to BKK and probably since he knew the bag got lost he didn’t file any claim because he knew what’s inside and the risks involved. And what I knew is that the customs from Abu Dhabi airport even liaised with central investigation department of Pakistan, Malaysia and Thailand as part of their investigations. I don’t know if they managed to get hold of Mr Khan, however you see the passenger was destined for Bangkok with drugs, and investigations started from Abu Dhabi!!. Mr Khan probably was lucky enough. Now imagine if Mr Khan had made a claim for this bag in BKK!!, then we would have dispatched the bag without knowing about the drugs inside. Well the bag will reach BKK, but then it will have to go thru BKK customs clearance for sure since it was an unaccompanied bag and if the custom guys at BKK were smart enough they would have found the drugs inside and got hold of Mr Khan. So regardless where ever the bag reaches, if drugs are found then it gets escalated to next level. It is obvious the investigations will put the passenger responsible since the bag is under his name, regardless where the bag travelled by error and came back. Unless otherwise the passenger is able to prove his/her side.

I will be boarding one domestic and two international flights before reaching my destination, so what precautions I should take?

The most common issue with multiple connections is loss or delay of baggage. So it is recommended at every connecting point to check that your luggage has made it to the flight you are about to board. Also keep some identification mark/tag on your luggage or paste your name on it. It helps in case of baggage tracing is needed due to delayed or lost baggage. Keep a note of items in your luggage as it'll be handy to declare contents in case of delay or lost baggage.
