December 2012:We were a bunch of 30 students from NITW (only boys) waiting for a train at Kazipet Junction (Warangal) at midnight 1 am. We were going for North India tour and were really excited about the train journey of next 26 hours.And then comes Dakshin Express.We were allotted berths in S12 and S13 compartments. When the train stopped, we observed that these compartments were over flooded with people. Some of us somehow managed to get into S13 but what left us puzzled was S12's door being locked from inside. After a couple of knocks at the door, we heard a few voices from inside shouting "Arey bhai, andar jagah nahi hai, doosri compartment me chado (there's no place inside, get into another compartment)." A few of us got into S13 and thought of opening the door from inside. The compartment was too crowded with 2-3 people sleeping in one berth. We could hardly move 2-3 meters in the crowd and we heard the train whistle.All this was going on in Reservation Compartments.We had only one option - Pulling the chain. TTE and a couple of RPF officers arrived at the compartment to know what happened. We explained the situation to them. They started to request all the passengers without tickets to move into general compartment. All these non-reservation guys were travelling together after attending some examination in Hyderabad and the families inside the compartment couldn't oppose the mob. There was one person who raised his voice "Galat compartment me hai tho fine le lijiye, par hummese koyi bhi yaha se nahi utrega (Fine us if we are in the wrong compartment, but we won't move)". By now, one of the already frustrated passenger with a reservation lost his mind and held that guy by the collar. 2-3 of this companions raised their voices, and we raised ours (Imagine 30 boys roughly 20 years old shouting in sync). The guy was thrown out of the compartment instantly. By now, the train started to move again and we pulled the chain second time. We insisted on all the non-reservation guys being moved to general compartment and told them the train will not be allowed to move until then. By now, all the families inside the compartment gathered courage and started to push the non-reservation guys one by one out of the train. The TTE and RPF forces didn't help us. We moved from person to person, asking for tickets and cleaned both the compartments all by ourselves.In this whole process, we had to pull the chain 8 times. Finally we started from Kazipet without a single non-reservation passenger in S12 and S13.This feel-good episode of opposing the mob however didn't last long. A few of our friends in the other compartment were later surrounded in the train, threatened to be killed and forced to apologize for asking what was theirs.Edit: A few gentlemen here took the pain of commenting and showing their sympathies for the mob since they think they know 'the miseries of general compartment'. To all those people out there, let me show you the actual face of the mob. This is from my friend Harsha, who was in the other compartment and got surrounded by the same mob in the train just before reaching Agra."I was there in the other compartment. We were surrounded by the mob at end of the journey.As the train is nearing Agra ( our destination) few people came near our berth as one by one. And a few minutes later there were around 20-25 people.We were around 10 people, Ours were the last berths in that compartment.All of a sudden they started singing songs. We had no idea why they were singing so loud. We did nothing but ignoring them. And then one person from the mob came to us and woke up our friends. They started abusing us all. We were slightly shocked and about to revolt back but dropped that idea as they were large in number. We were still in shock. And suddenly they started to threaten us, they said it's their area and shall drop us all from the running train. And they said no one will ever find out even if were killed, like they had influence etc etc.We were now trying to make peace with them, as we don't want to get into any trouble at the end of our journey. But hell they were listening. Their threats are increasing minute by minute.Now at this point a man kind enough to get into the middle of a fight and gutsy enough to stop the fight came to rescue us. He was a fellow passenger, a Punjabi. He came to the middle and settled the matter for us. We thanked that man a lot.What bothers me is this kind of people are freely moving in our country without any fear. They think they can commit any kind of crime and get away with it. They always think there is corrupt system to back them up. This attitude of people is so dangerous."
