Osho was able to help many who were ready.None of the people who lived close to him in his household day in, day out, for many years until he left his body in 1990, have any doubts about his enlightenment.Most of them are still alive and some of them have written books, and some are still have books that they are writing on their lives with Osho.Osho` books and talks themselves cover a wide range of topics, not only mystical and esoteric and are qaulity guides for meditation and raising awareness and consciousness.How much of what he said is relevant to you depends on your own interests.A genuine enlightened master attempts to help wake people up from their metaphysical sleep and to help the disciples grow in love and consciousness and find their light and freedom which lies beyond the mind.Alternatively, of course, he could be just a conman ,a cult leader, a hypnotist who pretended to be enlightened for years so that he could start collecting lots of Rolls Royces when he got past the age of fifty. Its up to you to decide.Osho had a relaxed, life affirmative philosophy that encouraged celebration , and meditation.This healthy, life affirmative attitude , and the atmosphere of his communes which was very supportive to meditation.The `three `L`s `, “Love, life, and laughter” was the motto of Osho’s people.But as soon as the sannyasins began arriving in large numbers and began building at the big Muddy Ranch, a local Christian anti-cult organisation began distributing leaflets containing inflammatory , and mainly untrue reports about Osho taken from the yellow press in India and stirring up tensions amongst the small population of the nearest town of Antelope . The Antelopians in Oregon thought that a strange, brainwashed cult had arrived and they complained about the new musical nightime noises that they found totally unnaceptable from some of their new orange, and red neighbours.And the Indian guru was a foreign concept to them.The had encountered the Red Indians before but never a perpetually jolly, bald Buddha from India driving around in his cars.And he wanted to piss people off with the cars which were all the same model . First he got one.When people started complaining, he told his secretary to get two.Then he got three. Then four. Then five...Then he told Sheela to get thirty Rolls Royces, all the in one month.He had said in after he had started speaking publicly again in 1984 that he had gone into public silence partly to put off those who were only intellectually following him:“I have found my people and I have to arrange a silent communion, which will help in two ways: those who cannot understand silence will drop out. That will be good. That will be a good weeding; otherwise they will go on clinging around me because of the words, because their intellect feels satisfied. And I am not here to satisfy their intellect. My purpose is far, far deeper, of a different dimension.So these days of silence have helped those who were just intellectually curious, rationally interested in me, to turn their back. And secondly, it has helped me to find my real, authentic people who are not in need of words to be with me. They can be with me without words. That's the difference between communication and communion.” (1984)So he used this device of going into silence in order to clear away many who were only listening to him intellectually, but not really connected to him energetically, on a deeper spiritual level.He had spent years throwing his net wide and had attracted a huge following.But now he wanted to be able to work intensively with the people who were connecting with him.By that time Osho already had enough of his people who he was doing his work with . It was time for those he could progress no further with to move on."There are people who want everything clean, clear-cut,a logical, so that their mind can figure out what it is. This is an illogical place, irrational, absurd. You come with your certain ideas and when those ideas are not fulfilled, you feel baffled, you feel angry, offended. This whole place is being created in such a way that it offends many people, because that is my way to screen those people out. Somebody comes in the gate and, seeing a marble gate, he escapes.So good, so kind of him".Because he had come to see an Indian kind of ashram, not a marble gate, his ideas areshattered. He wanted to see people living in poverty, in a kind of spiritual dirtiness. Hewanted to see people almost starved, fasting. The marble gate is put there to put thesepeople off. I don’t want them inside.Small things offend people and they don’t see how small things become barriers.Arup’s mother, Gita, has written a question that she wants her family to become more interested in me, but the only thing that seems to create trouble is my pictures with fantastic hats! That is creating the trouble – so good! Now bring more hats for me, because these are the people I would not like them to be here. I would not like for them to be here because such stupid minds have to be kept out. These minds cannot grow.In the new commune I am going to make it such that only those who are really daredevils will be able to enter into it. A thousand and one things will prevent them, because those are the people who, even if they come in, they will go out. So why waste time on them? It is better to keep them out, bracket them out."The Wisdom of the Sands, Vol 2 (1978)Osho was one of the most genuine masters you can find, but paradoxically he is also one of the most doubted. That was because he sometimes deliberately acted in a crazy fashion and created doubts in people.Osho was strongly influenced by the Russian enlightened master George Gurdgjieff, who used to create certain ‘devices’ to test his disciples.Gurdjieff in turn had been inspired by spending time and learning with the Nasqbandhi Sufis who used devices and would sometimes even deliberately destroy their reputation, and created disguises to hide themselves away from the masses.Osho speaks a little on this, in a talk from 1970`s Pune here:An Enlightened Person Can PretendOsho had also used Gurdjieffian methods in the third and fourth stages of his famous Dynamic Meditation technique. The third stage of dynamic involves strenuous physical activity , a pushing of oneself beyond normal physical limits, jumping up and down with arms raised for ten minutes and shouting the Sufi mantra, ‘Hoo’. This is a build up the the fourth stage, in which Osho’s voice shouts ‘Stop!’. This stop exercise , which introduces the powerfull witnessing stage , is also taken directly from Gurdjieff, who used developed the technique to use with his disciples.The sacred dances that Gurdijieff created were also used in Osho’s Pune commune.The Rajneeshpuram commune also had a strong Gurdijieffian influence.Osho on Gurdjieff’s working method on the Ranch:“Suraj Prakash, the method that was being used in Rajneeshpuram comes from Gurdjieff. He himself got it from ancient Sufi sources…In the commune… and this was misunderstood all over the world; this is how everything is misunderstood. People understand only that for which they have been conditioned. They think that is all, while in fact the whole has no boundaries and you can go on exploring in any dimension, to any depth, without coming to the end. People were working twelve hours a day and sometimes fourteen hours a day. To outsiders this looked like they had been hypnotized – otherwise who is going to work fourteen hours continuously?But the reality was that these people were under a certain program of evolving consciousness. It is somewhere from twelve to fifteen hours that the first layer disappears, is finished. If you have been working hard for twelve hours, the first layer will be burned out. Ordinarily you stop, it is time to take your supper and go to bed.This is where Gurdjieff comes in. He says, “If you can continue now, when there is no energy, you are completely empty of energy as far as you know – those hidden layers are not known to you – continue!”A moment comes when suddenly all day-to-day energy is exhausted, and immediately the second layer becomes available to you. You are flooded with an energy so powerful that people who have come to that energy have felt that now they can do anything. Nothing is impossible, the energy seems to be so great.But before you can reach the second level the first has to be exhausted. And there is no way of giving you any proof, argument or evidence. You have to do it and experience it.” Sermons in Stones #10 (Talks in Bombay 1986).Gurdjieff was known to use many devices including acting in a crazy fashion , pushing people beyond their limits , and testing people around him.“One of his disciples, Nicoll, was traveling with Gurdjieff in America. In the middle of the night, they went aboard a train, and Gurdjieff, although not drunk, started behaving like a drunkard, utterly drunk.The disciple said, ”What are you doing, Master?”Gurdjieff hit Nicoll, and he said, ”Who are you? I have never seen you before.”He woke up the whole train, because he was stumbling from one compartment to another compartment, shouting obscenities, waking people who were asleep, throwing their bags out of the train. Finally the train was stopped; the driver and the conductor came in. But Gurdjieff was a very strong man, solid rock, and nobody dared to catch hold of him; he might throw the man out of the window!And Nicoll, poor man, was trying to tell the people that he is a great master! The people started looking at Nicoll and they thought, ”You are mad. He is a drunkard and you are mad. He is a great master? – in the middle of the night waking strangers, throwing their things around, shouting obscenities, speaking strange languages!”Somehow Nicoll persuaded the conductor and the driver, ”He is a famous master, but what to do? This is his way.” They agreed to let him stay on board only if Gurdjieff and Nicoll went into the compartment and they locked it from the outside. Then whatsoever they wanted to do inside they could do – the great master and the great follower – ”But don’t disturb the whole train.” As the door was locked, Gurdjieff relaxed, laughed, and he asked Nicoll, ”How was the scene?” Nicoll was perspiring in the air-conditioned compartment.He said, ”The scene? You almost killed me. They thought I was mad, and I knew perfectly well you were not drunk, because up to then you were absolutely alright. And suddenly…?”Gurdjieff said, ”It was a test for you, whether you can stay with me if I behave in such a manner. Can you still see the master in me?” Nicoll said, ”I am ready to go to hell with you. Whatever you do, there is a deep trust in me that it must be for something good. I knew it all the way, but what to do with the passengers, the conductor, with the driver? The whole crowd was against me, and I am not so strong a man as you are.”“From Death to Deathlessness”Inspired by George Gurdjieff , Osho had used various devices throughout his lifetime to put off people who were around him but were not so close to him spiritually. One of these devices was when he asked one of his close disciples , Chinmaya, to find him a new title to replace “Acharya Rajneesh” in 1971.Osho had been travelling around India speaking to crowds of people and by the end of the sixties he had attracted a very large following including some of the Bollywood crowd.Chinmaya suggested several names which were rejected . Eventually he suggested “Bhagwan” , which was accepted. Bhagwan is sometimes used in India to address a person who is God realised, but only by a minority of deeply spiritual people . Osho knew that naming himself God would offend the majority and some Hindus who were following him who use the word to address their divine incarnations or Avatars ."It sorted out well," Osho later said. "Only those who are ready to dissolve with me remained. All others escaped. They created much space around me. Otherwise, they were crowding too much, and it was very difficult for the real seekers to come closer to me. The crowds disappeared. The word 'Bhagwan' functioned like an atomic explosion. It did well. I am happy I chose it.”(The discipline of transcendence vol 2 1976)Going into public silence in 1981 put some people off. Collecting lots of cars put off some more. But then Osho had been introduced to Nitrous Oxide in a dental session by his dentist and he decided to bring out a shocking book complete with photos of himself in the dental chair with tubes stuck up his nose.This, he figured, would be enough to clear away more people who did not have enough trust in him.(Eventually three books were created but not published until 1985 but the photos of Osho in the dental chair taken in 1982 were not included as Sheela , who controlled the publishing and recording of Oshos words at the Ranch , didn’t want them in the final publication. She had been editing Oshos words and removing parts she didn’t favour. She also added a completely fictional chapter in the first publication of the book ‘Glimpses of a Golden Childhood’ , which contained a false story that Osho had been adopted by her father . )One of Osho’s main teachings was to love the outer world around us and treat the earth as sacred , as well as the inner world .This idea wasn’t entirely original. Sri Aurobindo, Indian philosopher and spiritual master had also a similar philosophy of creating a paradise on earth as well as remaining transcendental, and believed in evolutionary spirituality and integration between the material and spiritual realms. And several other enlightened masters of the twentieth century also spoke of leaving the traditional isolation of the spiritual life behind, and moving meditation into normal everyday life. Paramahansa Yogananda spoke of this, as did Haidakan Babbaji who emphasised work as part of spiritual practise, or Karma Yoga.Osho could have easily had millions of followers and respect if he had stayed in a simple style and gone along with what the society expected.But Osho wasn’t part of the crowd or the mob psychology . He didn’t want lots of followers, he wanted disciples , he wanted to create thousands of awakened people which he figured would change the global consciousness, and he didn’t care a lot about respectability.“So I have not given any excuse for my people to be around me. In fact, I have given them every excuse to escape from me, to avoid me. Being with me does not bring you respectability. That was well-considered by me from the very beginning, that with me you should have to lose your respect, your honor, your morality. These will be the tests whether you are going to risk anything to be with me. And if thousands of people have decided to be with me at any cost, that is a determination, a commitment of tremendous import. That means they have tasted something of my presence.The people who are now around me are not here just for my words. By now they are perfectly aware that you can play with the words, there is nothing in it. They are perfectly aware that they are not to cling to my words, because tomorrow I am going to change. Why cling unnecessarily? I am absolutely unreliable. And to trust in a man who is so unreliable is authentic trust. It goes beyond thinking of consequences. It goes beyond fear. It goes beyond all words. I may contradict, I may say anything, it does not matter to my people. What matters is my presence, my love towards them, their love towards me.(The Last Testament- 1984)“ It is part of my whole device to change the very structure of human consciousness.The past has revered poverty, asceticism, masochistic attitudes.A man was respected if he was renouncing all that is pleasant, all that is comfortable.He was respected for torturing himself; the greater the torture, the greater the respect.The whole human past is masochistic, and all the religions have contributed to this insanity.My effort is to change such a vast past and its influence. So it has been only a device. I have not been creating desires for materialistic things in people; they are there without anybody's creating them.Yes, they have been repressed so deeply that people have even forgotten that they had them. I am not creating them; I simply want to remove the cover-up, the repression, and to make the person realize that he wants a Rolls Royce more than enlightenment.This realization will be a basic step towards enlightenment, because it will make him aware of his own reality, his greed.There was no need for ninety-three Rolls Royces. I could not use ninety-three Rolls Royces simultaneously -- the same model, the same car.But I wanted to make it clear to you that you would be ready to drop all your desires for truth, for love, for spiritual growth to have a Rolls Royce.I was knowingly creating a situation in which you would feel jealous. The function of a master is very strange. He has to help you come to an understanding of your inner structure of consciousness: it is full of jealousy.”“A deep unconsciousness, a great blindness exists, and I am fighting against a mountainous unconsciousness, darkness.Naturally they will be very much annoyed.They would have loved me, they would have worshipped me.And it was so easy for me to do what they wanted, but then I would have been continuing the old misery, the old disease, the old stupidity.I decided to be unrespectable, but not to help any nonsensical value .It is a very simple thing to see why ascetics -- self-destructive people engaged in a kind of slow suicide -- have been respected; it is because it is unnatural, because you cannot do it.They are doing something which you cannot do. If somebody is standing on their head on the road, there will be a crowd immediately, but you are walking on your legs -- no crowd will be there!What is that man doing that attracts the crowd? He is doing something that the crowd cannot do.He is proving mind over body, he is proving spirit over nature. Torturing his body he is proving that he is not the body, it does not affect him.By fasting, not sleeping, or standing for days he is proving that what you cannot do he can do; he is superior to you.You also can do what he is doing, you just have to be a little stupid, you just have to be a little suicidal, destructive.All that you need is a certain pleasure in pain and you can become a great spiritual saint.“I will be condemned, I will be criticized. Every religion, every tradition, every morality, every ethical code is going to condemn me. That does not surprise me! I expect it, because what I am saying and doing is changing the very course of human consciousness.I don't think that by torturing yourself you can meditate more easily; on the contrary, if your body is pleasantly at ease you can meditate more easily.”“My whole effort is to make a fresh beginning. It is bound to create condemnation of me from all over the world.But it doesn't matter -- who cares!I care only for those who are ready to change the very course of human consciousness.I will offend others, I will annoy others, I will irritate others, I will create jealousy in others. These are part of my devices. I am really exposing them.If they have any intelligence they will understand it.Ninety-three Rolls Royces... but I have not looked back at them, at what happened.They were not mine, and I am as happy without them as I was with them. I never went to see those Rolls Royces in the garage. The director of my garage, Avesh, is here. I went on saying to him, "One day I am coming," but that day never came.I have never seen those cars together. He had ideally always wanted the commune to be in North India in the Himalayas and had told Ma Yoga Laxmi to stay behind in India and keep looking for land for the new commune when he was leaving India at Bombay Airport for New York in may 1981, according to Ma Prem Arup , who worked closely with Sheela and Laxmi.But she ended up following him after ten days and turned up at the castle where he was staying in New York , and then later followed him the new purchased Ranch. He later asked her to go back and search again for a new commune site in India in 1983.Eventually Laxmi did find a site in Manali, in the Himalayas and this is where Osho travelled to after he had been deported for immiegration violations in November 1985.But Osho had far too much faith in what he thought was the principles of the American constitution and freedom and democracy.Another mistake was leaving Sheela with so much power for so long in Rajneeshpuram. Too much power corrupts everyone. And a mistake in encouraging her to be so provocative and fiery to the media in my opinion.But many sannyasins had felt as if they had learnt a lot of important life lessons from the whole experience there.Sheela was empowered and charismatic, and Osho would have seen that she had some good organisational skills, but by her own admission she was never interested in meditation, and had even turned down Osho’s offer to live in his household when he first arrived at the Ranch. He had suggested that she could enter a meditative space at the end of the day , with the rest of his household, but she had opted to have her own space where she was surrounded by a mainly loyal group of people.Osho had basically said that he didn’t want anything to do with the adminstration of the commune.He later said that he had given her a few guidelines, but she had been doing many things in his name that he had not talked to her about at all.He had begun speaking again to small groups of sannyasins in his house after three years of public silence in 1984.On December 19th, 1984, for the first time Osho publicly criticised the core management and organisation of the commune, headed by Sheela, that was centred in her household in Jesus Grove .He also clearly stated that from now on no-one could claim they were speaking on his behalf, which was a common trick by Sheela and her group.He ended that talk with “I will never leave you under a fascist regime” . Everyone present remembers the ending of that talk, but when the editors received the transcript of the talk, they noticed that the words had been changed to “I will never leave you in a state of chaos”.It was standard at that time for the videos of the talks to the gathering in his house to be broadcast to the whole commune the next day, but Sheela’s group made an excuse that the audio and video equipment had stopped working during the discourse.Swami Prem Rajesh was one of the technicians who worked under Julian, one of Sheela’s close circle and the head of the Edison electronics department , who had been responsible for the wiretapping of the entire commune.Rajesh remained on the Ranch after most of Sheela’s group left, and returned to Osho’s ashram back in Poona in 1988 after serving four months in a half way house and three years on probation for his minor role in the wiretapping.He claimed that Vidya , Sheela’s fourth in command had ordered him to destroy the tapes of the discourse, telling him that they had made copies of the tapes, minus the embarrassing parts .After rumours began to spread through the commune that one of Osho’s talks had been censored, Sheela’s group produced a transcript of the talk , which was given to the editors in Osho’s household who were responsible for transcribing and editing Osho’s talks from the audio at that time. But when they looked at the transcript they could see that it had been clearly doctored, and several passages and sentences had been changed or removed.The video of the talk has never been found and is believed to have been destroyed.The censored version of the discourse was eventually published in “From Ignorance to Innocence chapter 20” .A month after this discourse Osho sent Sheela and several members of her group back to India to search for the new commune site. He was fed up with the situation in America for some time and had already asked Laxmi to return to search for land for the new commune. And according to members of Sheela’s inner circle, Osho had told Sheela to instruct Laxmi that she would be his secretary for the new commune in India. This meant Sheela would be effectively losing her power , and members of her group have also stated that this is when Sheela began talking about assassinating Laxmi.Eventually the pressure and stress of the situation of constant hassle from the attempts to block the development of the commune by different U.S. government agencies , plus a heavy work schedule and not much sleep coupled with egomania , far too much power for too long and some paranoia from alll the uppers and downers that she was reportably taking appears to have got too much for Sheela and she declined into madness and psychopathy.The criminal acts of Sheela and her group whilst at Rajneeshpuram,which became exposed in september 1985, after she had suddenly left the commune , included wiretapping, experimenting with poisons, including poisoning and attempting to murder sannyasins that Sheela took a dislike too or felt jealous or threatened by, , as well as visiting US Governent officials , and most of these crimes were fully exposed publicly by Osho after she had left the commune followed by most of her loyal group.A few of the group who stayed behind at the Ranch began informing Osho about the activities , also certain people who had been asked to do certain acts by Sheela but refused and had been too afraid to speak about them , began to expose more of the activities of the group . At this point Osho exposed the crimes publicly and invited the law enforcement agencies into the commune to investigate.He had also informed the police that he knew where Sheela and her group were hiding and said that he would be informing Interpol.Osho had made it clear in the first press conference of 16th sep 1985, after Sheela had left, that he had been informed that Sheela had bugged the entire commune, including his home, and that he had been told that she had made tapes, and had taken some of these tapes with her to Germany.(The Last Testament Vol 2 , chapter 26 , `The world has suffered too much from politics`)The audio recording of this press conference can be listened to at Oshoworld , under `Press Interviews`, number one. Welcome to Osho World Audio DiscoursesTherefore, having exposed this to the world media and inviting the police and the FBI to investigate, he obviously wasn’t concerned about anything that could have incriminated or exposed him in any way on those tapes.Ava Avalos , a 20 year old member of the group, who was offered a deal in exchange for immunity from prosecution and became an undercover informant for the FBI until Osho left the Ranch , said in her testimony to the FBI in 1985 , that when Sheela was holding the secret meetings in her room with her inner circle and discussing ways to assasinate Charles Turner, “Sheela informed them that Bhagwan was not to know what was going on, and that if Bhagwan were to ask them about anything that would occur, `they would have to lie to Bhagwan.”Some people who don’t trust Osho , have insinuated that Osho could have said something to Sheela which was on the tapes , but they couldn’t use it because it was illegally recorded. This is untrue.They used tapes of conversations of KD, one of the main criminals in the group, that were illegally recorded with exactly the same facilities at Rajneeshpuram , in the trial of two of the female defendants of Sheela’s group, relating to the planned assassination plot of Charles Turner, and these tapes that were recorded illegally were played to the jury in the court of law. You can be assured that if they had had anything at all linking Osho to Sheela’s crimes , they would have used it in the same way.Usually, in most states in the U.S. , illegally recorded material is inadmissable unless both parties are aware of the recording. But not always, and in several cases in Oregon , illegally recorded material has been used as evidence in a court of law. One example was in the Oregon Supreme Court's 1987's opinion in Oregon vs Lissy , which followed a gruesome murder in Lane County. One issue at trial was the use of recordings by a witness wearing a concealed wire, capturing the defendant's description of the murder. The defendant, Lissy, argued that the conversations were private and that recording them was illegal. The court ruled otherwise. As it happened, Dave Frohnmayer , the Attorney General of Oregon was involved in that case and had also been heavily involved in the cases against Osho and Rajneeshpuram.The FBI have stated on record on file , that “no direct evidence linking The Bhagwan to the crimes exists.”They also stated that a couple of Sheela’s group that they interviewed, believed that Osho knew about the crimes, but that “none of the information was of a magnitude worthy of an indictment against Bhagwan” . ( Around three members of the group who had originally left with Sheela decided to returned to the Ranch. Faced with the prospect of spending years in prison some of them were pressured and offered deals with the FBI in exchange for immunity from prosecution and agreed to became undercover informants for the FBI ) .This was also balanced by other members of her group stating in their testimonies , that they didnt know if Osho knew or stating that they believed he didn’t know.One of bizarre schemes of Sheela and her group was the plan to attempt to manipulate the results of an election, by giving voters food poisoning which was intended to leave them stuck of the toilet all day so that they couldn’t get out and vote. She trial tested her plan at the Dalles with salmonella poisoning.According to Jayananda and others who lived close to Sheela , Sheela was very jealous of the people who had most contact with Osho at the Ranch, and lived in his house .She made several attempts to kill people who lived with him. Fortunately, all of these attempts failed.She had managed to convince people who lived with her, that they were a danger to Osho . Sheela was very clever and had mastered the art of manipulation, by all accounts.The first attempt on Osho’s doctors life, was in 1984, before Sheela had bugged Oshos room. The doctor was poisoned , became very ill and put in the medical ward at Koran Grove. There, the nurse Puja, Sheela’s right hand women had put unsterilised water from a vase, into his drip which made him worse.However Amrito survived this , and Sheela then instructed members of her group to poison his food whenever they got the chance , gave the doctor a prolonged gastrointestinal problem for over year.Finally they tried to assassinate him with a lethal injection of pure adrenaline in the meditation hall in 1985. This nearly killed him, but yet again, the doctor survived.Osho’s caretaker was also targeted with poison and another lethal injection attempt that involved breaking into Osho’s house in the middle of the night , luckily she had already locked the door from inside.See Anand Sharma's answer to Why did Osho plan a bioterror attack in Oregon?In late October 1985, just over a month after the sudden departure of Sheela and her group, the National Guard was getting into position to invade the commune.Osho had publicly exposed the crimes and invited the authorities to investigate.However,the authorities finally saw their opportunity to destroy the commune entirely and force Osho out.Their very expensive four-year long investigation against Osho had revealed nothing . But now they saw the possibility to put pressure on some of the people Osho had exposed, hoping to turn them against him. They persuaded Sheela to hand over to them all the tapes made when she secretly bugged Osho’s room.But nothing came of this – in the end, both US Attorney Turner and Attorney General Frohnmeyer publicly acknowledged that ‘they had little evidence of [Osho] being involved in any of the criminal activities that unfolded at the ranch’.So the authorities eventually settled for a sealed indictment accusing Osho of conspiring to commit immigration fraud by encouraging his sannyasins to marry illegally to obtain green cards.There had been rumours of indictments by the INS(Immigration and Naturilisation Services ) and arrests of Osho and several others on immigration violations for some time. The INS investigation and attempts to find ways to deport Osho had been ongoing for four years, ever since the US Government had become aware of the large scale commune that had begun to develop in Oregon.Osho’s attorneys had spoken with authorities on several occasions whenever the rumours would appear and had reached an agreement with the authorities to voluntarily surrender Osho if any indictment or arrest was immanent.Freedom of Information Requests have revealed that they had orchestrated a plan to invade Rajneeshpuram with over 300 armed officers and helicopter gunships, to arrest Osho for immigration violations and had already mounted their machine guns onto their helicopters and were preparing for their assault.With that in mind Ma Prem Hasya, Osho`s new secretary and a small group of Osho’s disciples decided to get him away from the commune as a preventative measure and to depressurize the situation (the biggest fear being that some disciples might come to harm if they got involved in a firefight whilst trying to defend themselves and protect Osho from the invasion ).They suggested the idea to Osho that he could go away for several days and he agreed.The registered their flight plans with the FAA, (Federal Aviation Administration) , and flew him in a small jet across the country to Charlotte, North Carolina, where he was arrested at gunpoint by heavily armed federal agents..( Initially the US government tried to charge Osho with flight to avoid prosecution,but this was later dropped).In Charlotte, North Carolina Osho was arrested without any warrant, and then separated from his disciples, Osho was dragged through six jails in twelve days,during a journey back to Oregon that normally took four to six hours by plane.The officers who carried out the arrests had been sent a fax by officials in Oregon telling them to expect dangerous criminals armed with submachine guns .
