After studying tremendously and burning your social life into fire , finally you got medical College and thought life is set now. You and your parents think your struggle is over now and you will led a good life. Well that fact is partially true ,you do enjoy but let me tell you life is not a cakewalk always. There is high prevalence of depression in medical College. Every third medico is suffering from depression and anxiety as per study. Here are some lesser known facts about medicos.Unhealthy Lifestyle:- Isn't it ironic that the professional who advocate healthy lifestyle and exercise led the most unhealthy lifestyle. Many of the medicos skip breakfast in order to reach lectures, sleep late , woke up late and eat a snack packet.Long course:- The mbbs course is itself 5.5 years long and if we add pg courses and drop years for preparation, the average time to become a good qualified doctor is almost 10 years.Highly competitive Environment:- Students already enter mbbs after filtering out from rest of 12–13 lakhs candidates , so everyone is already good here. You may be smart but there is always someone smarter than you ahead. It may give a anxiety issue to the students who are habitual to be called toppers.Toxic teachers:- As per my experience, each year in MBBS there are one or two very toxic proffessor which make students life hell. They scold you multiple times and warn you that you might got fail( even if it's not your mistake). Your confidence and self respect gets shattered and you feel helpless in front of them.Academic pressure:- The syallabus is really really huge. A medico who says I don't study has studied more than enough but can't feel confident over even easy questions in viva. Sometimes our answers are so dumb that even we think why the hell I just said that ?? Pressure in exam is common among students but pressure on medicos during exams is of another level. No. of academic years in medical College is directly proportional to the stress level. Now NEXT ( pg entrance) is giving another headache to students.Limited social life:- At initial , you will led a good social life, have many friends , reconnect with former peers but gradually you goota away from all these. Your friend circle will limit with just 2–3 close friends. You will find a number of toxic friends on the way.Exposure to various infection :- You may be a reservoir of lot of infections as you carry them from hospital. You may give infection ( now a days covid) to your loved ones. In each year , one student contract T.B infection from patients.Financial dependance :- you will be dependent on your parents for money 💰 while your peers from other profession started earning handsome salary. Salary is also not great initially even after working hard. It may a take a while to earn handsome salary.Cubersome workload:- As per my seniors , we have 24 -48 hourly working shifts during our internship and post-graduation which is quite tiring. Unsupportive seniors adding more pressure to the junior . I think this phase is the toughest of all, when your working tirelessly and meanwhile you have to listen your seniors scolding + you won't get much free time for yourself.When u expected this before entering medical College:-When you find this after entering medical CollegeViolence against doctors :- I need not to emphasize on this point. Most of you already know about growing voilence against doctors.All of this doesn't mean we don't enjoy our life , we do enjoy our life but every thing comes with a sacrifice . I can also mention the perks of being a doctor but this question is about dark side of MBBS. Every one has to balance their life here and we had a lot of fun during our UG .P.s :- All of the above things I mentioned are based on me and my seniors and peers opinion . Medicine as a career has its own perks which I haven't mentioned here. Do i regret choosing mbbs …….no, never .There is not a single day in which I regreted over decision of choosing mbbs.Let me tell u one thing:- if I had a time machine or the ability to go back to past, then there is 80% chances that I still would have chosen being a doctor over anything. As a kid , I remember what I wanted to be:- A doctor, an army officer or a sports person or a Architect and all of these profession has hardships.What makes a thrice old security guard to respect a 20 year girl and offer her a seat. Just a white coat . The respect and glory this profession has is just unmatchable to anything. I agree with Vega Handojo’s answer. Munich is a better option if you are more “serious” with your studies. As he has said, you’ll have better opportunities like thesis, internship but also do not forget that there are the werkstudent (working student) contracts. Basically you work max 20 hours a week and this can cover all your expenses. Generally for engineering related jobs, companies pay quite a good amount :)Contrary to Vega Handojo’s answer, Munich is not that expensive if you manage to find a room from Studentenwerk. Studentenwerk manages public dorms that are difficult to get a room in but very cheap compared to other things you’ll find in Munich. They are around 350 euros a month.Also do not think that Munich is very German, it’s a big city in the end so maybe you won’t have as many different activities as you would in Berlin but certainly it is not bad. Munich was a city for painters and musicians before Berlin but Berlin caught up and surpassed it.I cannot compare with Berlin but a very annoying thing in TU Munich is that there are too many students. If you want to sign up for some sports classes, language courses or a normal course with limited places, you have to be f*cking fast! Concerts run out very fast as well. It shouldn’t be a problem if you are very well organized.One great thing about Munich is that it is close to the mountains. It’s very easy to go hiking in summer and skiing in winter and also sailing in the lakes. There are lots of small places to visit around Munich too :)

The most important thing when looking for an internship is to see it as a full-time job and not just an internship. The employers in Germany normally pay you for full-time work (40 hrs/Wk) and they expect that you are up to the mark.So that being said, this is what I did about 1.5 years ago.Update your CV (ideally one pager), Cover letter (max. one page), Linked In and Xing (if you are looking for jobs in German) profiles. When all these are well updated, you can start the hunt. There are some formats of CVs that are welcomed by European recruiters, Google them and align your CV to one of those.Once above step is done, first start with the professors/assistants from your university. When you are interested in one of their courses; over a period of time you can bring up this topic. Most of them have some kind of industry experience/contacts and are happy to help. Important thing is, you ask only a few where you have genuine interest in their topics. This is by far the best option as it establishes a direct link with recruiters.Simultaneously, start looking on websites like Jobbörse StepStone − Jobs und Stellenangebote and Linked In. Stepstone has very good offers and I had found my internship there.Important is, you only apply for positions you think you will genuinely fit. This will save time of recruiters and your time/disappointment of random rejections. And when you apply, make sure you research the position and company well and adapt your CV/Cover letter to match it. This is not to say you bluff on your CV, you just highlight what you think will be applicable. A crisp CV and Cover letter drags a great deal attention from recruiters.Also, when you are unsuccessful with a certain position which you believe you would have fit well; send a Linked In request to the interviewing manager (not the recruiter). This will open a door for your future application in that company. Important is, you send this request at least a week after you get informed of rejection. And whatever you write in connection message, please do NOT whine about being rejected. Just a friendly connection request.Set yourself a time frame. Don’t expect that you will find internship in a month or so, you might get disappointed . I would say 2–6 months is a good time frame depending on your field of studies. German recruiters tend to see interns as future employees, so be sure they will test you well before hiring. Keep calm and be well prepared.On the curriculum part, be sure that you are almost finished with your ECTS; so that you can take these 6 months as Urlaub semester. This is important for two reasons: 1. internship+studies just exhausts you A LOT (been there done that!) and 2. near the end of internship, you might be offered a full-time job, be sure you are prepared (curriculum wise) to take it.Lastly, due to current situation (COVID-19), some companies are asking their full-time employees to go on Kurzarbeit. So, do not give up if you see lesser opportunities. Even a 20 hr working student contract is a good alternative to internship.Hope this answer helps and viel Glück!P.S.
