Why won’t Donald Trump show his tax returns?

Why do you think President Trump is still refusing to release his tax returns?Probably because it would show that he either does not have as much money as he brags he has, that he pays shockingly little in taxes or business connections he does not want the general public to know about.Or, most likely, all of the above.

CA Legislature has overwhelmingly passed a measure requiring all presidential and gubernatorial candidates to release tax returns to get on the primary ballot. How bold is the step? Does that mean PresTrump cannot be on ballot in the 2020 election?

This is all a good question, and it’s likely to go to SCOTUS.There are several issues here:Primaries are basically intra-party affairs. It’s really unclear if SCOTUS will be down with a requirement on how a party conducts it’s own primary in this way.California has already sort of acknowledge that, because the rest of their primary isn’t a primary at all… It’s the first round of a two round vote. Since California excludes the presidential race here already, it makes it rather more interesting. It’s pretty clear that the states can’t place additional requirements on the actual election, and while this is obviously an attempt around that, it’s really unclear if SCOTUS is going to let that fly. The intent of this law is obviously to keep Trump off the general ballot. And SCOTUS usually takes a dim view of that sort of shenanigans. As Trump is probably more unpopular in California than anywhere, it doesn’t really matter. He has zero chance of winning CA regardless. It actually might help Trump as it would be a hell of a motivation for voters in other states who are just pissed that California is pulling this sort of stunt. If it does stand, it opens the door to all the other states adding partisan requirements, which is another reason SCOTUS is not going to let this fly.
