Why do Donald Trump's supporters say he's a better president than Theodore Roosevelt?

They’re clueless on Teddy Roosevelt’t accomplishmentsTeddy protected Federal land, he didn’t lease it out to the robber barons.Roosevelt was a man of Integrity. Donny’s barely a man.Roosevelt served our country in the Military prior to his Presidency. President Bone-Spurs never served#1 Here’s just a few more of President Roosevelt’s accomplishments#2 HE WAS POSTHUMOUSLY AWARDED THE MEDAL OF HONORIn 1898, war broke out between the United States and Spain over the former’s intervention in the Cuban War of Independence. Along with Army Colonel Leonard Wood, Roosevelt formed the 1st United States Volunteer Cavalry. Known as the Rough Riders, their greatest victory came at the Battle of San Juan Hill, which was the decisive battle of the war. It involved their famous charge up Kettle Hill on July 1, 1898 under the leadership of Roosevelt. He was posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor in 2001 for his actions in Cuba.Colonel Theodore Roosevelt in 1898#3 HE AVERTED A NATIONAL EMERGENCY BY DEALING WITH THE 1902 COAL STRIKEThere was a coal strike in 1902 by the United Mine Workers of America that threatened the heating supplies of the homes of tens of millions of Americans. President Roosevelt became involved and set up a fact-finding commission. He threatened to use the US Army to mine the coals and seize the mines; and convinced both the miners and the owners to accept the findings of a commission. The strike was suspended and never resumed. The miners received 10% wage increase and working hours were reduced from 10 to 9 while the owners didn’t have to recognize the trade union as a bargaining agent anymore.A 1902 cartoon of Theodore Roosevelt teaching the coal barons a lesson#4 HE CURBED THE MONOPOLISTIC POWER OF THE RAILROADSThe Interstate Commerce Act of 1887 had created the Interstate Commerce Commission (ICC); a federal regulatory agency to monitor railroads. One of President Roosevelt’s major goals was railroad regulation. The Elkins Act of 1903 and the Hepburn Act of 1906 were passed during his presidency to curb monopolistic power of the railroads. The Elkins act authorized the ICC to impose heavy fines on railroads that offered rebates and upon the shippers that accepted these rebates. The Hepburn Act gave ICC the power to set maximum railroad rates.A cartoon depicting Roosevelt’s fight against the monopolistic power of the railroads#5 HE DESTROYED THE “BEEF TRUST.”In 1902, President Roosevelt directed his Attorney General Philander Knox to bring a lawsuit on antitrust grounds against the “Beef Trust” that monopolized half or more of beef sales. During the trial it was demonstrated that the “Big Six” leading meatpackers were engaged in a conspiracy to fix prices and divide the meat market among themselves in their quest for higher profits. The Supreme Court ruled that the government was allowed to regulate monopolies if it had a direct effect on commerce marking a success for Roosevelt in destroying the “Beef Trust.”United States Attorney General Philander Knox#6 LAWS TO DECREASE ADULTERATION AND MISBRANDING WERE ENACTEDOfficial presidential portrait of Theodore Roosevelt by John Singer SargentIn response to public anger over adulteration and misbranding of food and drugs, Roosevelt pushed Congress to pass the Pure Food and Drug Act and the Meat Inspection Act, in 1906. The former banned food and drugs that were impure or falsely labelled from being made, sold, and shipped. It required active ingredients be placed on the label of a drug’s packaging and that drugs could not fall below purity levels established by the US Pharmacopeia. The latter aimed to prevent adulterated or misbranded meat/meat products from being sold and to ensure sanitary conditions for slaughter and processing.#7 ROOSEVELT MADE CONSERVATION A NATIONAL ISSUEConservation movement aims to protect natural resources including animal, fungus, and plant species as well as their habitat for the future. Roosevelt is considered to be the first president to put Conservation high on the national agenda. He set aside more Federal land for national parks and nature preserves than all of his predecessors combined. He established the US Forest Service, signed into law the creation of 5 National Parks and established the first 51 Bird Reserves and 150 National Forests.Flag of the U.S. Forest Service#8 HE FACILITATED THE CONSTRUCTION OF THE PANAMA CANALRoosevelt felt that a canal across the Isthmus of Panama would be beneficial for American military and commercial interests. After Colombia refused America’s terms of building the canal, he supported the local political class in Panama in their quest to form an independent nation. He sent US warships to block sea lanes to thwart Colombia to suppress the rebellion. The new nation of Panama sold a canal zone to the US for $10 million and a steadily increasing yearly sum. Panama Canal was completed in 1914. Roosevelt considered its completion as his most historically significant international achievement.Tugboat moving through the Panama Canal in 1913#9 HE IS THE FIRST AMERICAN TO BE AWARDED THE NOBEL PEACE PRIZECover of The Naval War of 1812The Russo-Japanese War was fought between the Russian Empire and the Empire of Japan over rival imperial ambitions in Manchuria and Korea. In 1905, Roosevelt persuaded the parties involved to meet in a peace conference in Portsmouth. His persistent and effective mediation led to the signing of the Treaty of Portsmouth on September 5, ending the war. The 1906 Nobel Peace Prize was awarded to Theodore Roosevelt for his efforts making him the first American to get the prize.#10 HE STRENGTHENED THE UNITED STATES NAVYTheodore Roosevelt was a prolific author. His most famous book is perhaps The Naval War of 1812 which covers the naval battles and technology used during the war between U.S. and U.K. in 1812. The book is considered a considerable achievement for the 23-year-old Roosevelt and one of the best in its fields. Roosevelt went on to be Assistant Secretary of the Navy and during his presidency accomplishments went from having the fifth largest to third largest navy in the world. So where are Donny’s Great, better than’ Roosevelt’s accomplishment’s? THERE AREN’T ANY!

What were Theodore Roosevelt's accomplishments while in office?

Well, Wikipedia is a pretty good place to start: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Theodore_RooseveltTheodore Roosevelt (TR) is one of our most famed presidents for a reason. He revolutionized the Oval Office. If I may be so bold, I would say that he was one of the first "modern" presidents who truly used the power of the office to implement reform. Pretty kick-butt, no?Here are the highlights:Trust-Busting - While TR was the US Attorney General, he went after large corporations with a ferocious intensity. While he was president, the aggressive enforcement of the Sherman Anti-Trust Act continued under his tutelage. In fact, he saw himself as a "steward" to all people -- laborers and wealthy alike. Legally and politically speaking, the Sherman Anti-Trust Act was an unprecedented use of the federal power to regulate interstate commerce. We have TR to thank for aggressively using federal power to govern.Expansion of Executive Power - Trust-busting is just one expample of how TR expanded the Executive Branch's powers. He used his executive powers to establish national parks. TR was also known to exercise his personal charisma to wrangle reform from Congress. (He didn't have a very high opinion of Congress.)Interventionist Foreign Policy - TR started the tradition of interventionist foreign policy. When a revolution in Panama put the Canal up for grabs, TR seized upon that opportunity to establish an American right-of-way. He even negotiated the end of the Russo-Japanese war and won a Nobel Peace Prize for his troubles. He was the first world leader to submit a complaint to the Hague, legitimizing international law.Consumer Protection (Food) - he advocated and helped pass the Meat Inspection and Food and Drug Acts.National Parks - TR transferred millions acres (!) to the federal government for wildlife and nature conservation. He was truly the first (and perhaps the only) "environmentalist" in office.Agencies - He set up the Departments of Commerce and Labor.Naval Power - TR, as the Commander-in-Chief, built up the Navy to a point where America had one of the best Navies in the world. An invaluable legacy during WWI and WWII.Formation of a Short-Lived 3rd Party (*) - When Taft, TR's protege, didn't follow in TR's reformist path, TR left the Republican party and formed the Progressive Party. Under the Progressive/Bull-Moose banner, TR ran for presidency against Taft and Woodrow Wilson. Many historians think that TR siphoned away so many votes from Taft that Wilson ended up winning the Presidency. Just think, TR did it better than Nader. If we take a step back, we can see that TR's political accomplishments were three-fold: (1) strong, modern executive; (2) interventionist foreign policy; and (3) rise of firm-handed federal regulation. None of that pansy lassiez-faire stuff. On a personal note, TR may have been a megalomanic, but he's still one of my favorite presidents. He's so vibrant and lively! He would run around the White House with his kids.* - OK, this was not during his presidency, but his actions influenced politics and changed history. What if Taft had been president during WWI? Hmm...

I am going to be arranging for a funeral at Arlington National Cemetery for my father. Is there anything I should know? (Already confirmed eligibility etc.)

Thank you for asking. The following is based on Dad’s death near the end of 2002:Burial is on their schedule. It has nothing to do with religious beliefs. My brother-in-law had Dad’s POA (power of attorney) and was previously in the Navy. He was the one who made the arrangements. Dad wasn’t buried within 24 hours, and we didn’t have the horse-drawn carriage. We had the Taps recording and the 21 gun salute (7 soldiers firing 3 times). It was still a Jewish funeral, just delayed a little. Mom died a little over 5 years before Dad. Because of space considerations, the second person to die in a couple is buried on top of the first. Someone in the family will receive a folded flag. The above is what I remember. I believe that the funeral and burial were in early January 2003. I think that it also takes longer to arrange for a funeral with full honors. You will need to also check to make sure that there isn’t a backlog during the Federal shutdown. My condolences to you, your family and friends. Remember that grieving doesn’t have a time clock, regardless of what some insensitive people may tell you.
