PDF Editor FAQ

If you saw a USB stick lying on the parking lot floor at work, would you pick it up and stick it into your computer to see whom it belongs to?

This question is basically about risks.Could you zap your computer with some bad usb stick? Sure. Do you have any enemies wanting to spend money on destruction of your stuff?Could you get a virus from it? If you don't run any executable file and just open documents, you should be fine. See below regarding bogus keyboard / mouse input.Would some vulnerability still be able to run a file? Some did exist in the past, but are considered patched. Some will probably be found later. Some could exist without the general public knowing (so-called 0-days).Would some device be able to masquerade itself as a keyboard and send shortcuts? Yes. Would you be able to notice? You would probably see some device installation, a terminal opening to maybe be covered by a full screen web page to mask it just after. Still quite noticeable if you're paying attention.Would it be able to hijack your network traffic? Yes and no. It could fiddle with unencrypted traffic. If you don't use any plain http site, and chance is you don't nowadays, it wouldn't be able to intercept anything. If you do use unencrypted http, you basically deserve the malware. Some user made some remark regarding Word macros. Of course, if that's enabled, any document is potentially an executable and can do bad stuff. If you're there, you're asking for malware. This isn't specific to USB. Opening a document from some Javascript in a PDF doesn't change that (you still have to lower your security settings, which makes this attack ineffective by default). What are other risks in comparison? There could be 0-days in your browser, your keyboard or even your hard disk could be secret spying or doom devices. You still use them. Some risks like keyboard highjacking are actual issues in comparison to these hypothetical problems. Still, unless you invest much more, you don't have a lot of guarantees about any hardware anyway. Some comments in another answer listed tons of links, some coming from antivirus vendors or forums, with lists of possible attacks. They all seem to fall in the list above: masquarading as a keyboard, unencrypted network interception / dns attacks, 0-days, Word macros… Some combine them or make them look more sophisticated (badusb, ...), but they are still the same beast. Some are really interesting and fall out of this list, but happen when it's already too late (e.g. reprogramming USB chips). Can something bad happen? Sure, I'm not denying that. Just read each point again, if necessarily. This question is basically about risks.Practically, on an old (hardware) but up to date (software) computer, I would just do it (I'd still not tell my parents to do so, they’d just click on anything). Without any sign of malware, I could even end up using it on my day-to-day gears.

Why is there an error in the Quran saying the Jews worshiped Ezra as the son of God, and why does it say 'May Allah destroy them' if it is supposed to be Allah talking?

I highly recommend the answer of Mohiudin Asfin. He has answered correctly that this statement of Allah (swt) that ‘(Al Quran 9:30) AND THE JEWS say, "Ezra is God's son," while the Christians say, "The Christ is God's son." does not in any way mean that Allah (swt) is generalizing this crime for all Jews and this can be clearly understood by the fact if one reads the prior and subsequent verses that follow it.If one carefully reads ‘Al Quran 9:30’ along with verses that follow and precede it, it is quite noticeable that Allah (swt) is declaring a list of crimes that various disbelievers (kafirs) among the Jews and Christians commit against their own religious teachings including war like aggression:(Al Quran 9:29–34) Fight those of the People of the Book (i.e. Jews or Christians) who do not [truly] believe in God and the Last Day, who do not forbid what God and His Messenger (i.e. Moses or Jesus) have forbidden, who do not obey the rule of justice, until they pay the tax and agree to submit. The Jews said, ‘Ezra is the son of God,’ and the Christians said, ‘The Messiah is the son of God’: they said this with their own mouths, repeating what earlier disbelievers had said. May God confound them! How far astray they have been led! They take their rabbis and their monks as lords, as well as Christ, the son of Mary. But they were commanded to serve only one God: there is no god but Him; He is far above whatever they set up as His partners!……..Believers, many rabbis and monks wrongfully consume people’s possessions and turn people away from God’s path. [Prophet], tell those who hoard gold and silver instead of giving in God’s cause that they will have a grievous punishment:These verses were revealed when the Prophet (sallAllahu alaihi wassallam) was preparing to face Byzantine (Roman) forces at Tabuk. Just by observing the words ‘Fight those of the people of the book (i.e. Jews and Christians)’ its sufficient to realize that the entire context is addressing crimes of certain members of Jews and Christians and not all. It mentions the following list of crimes committed by certain individuals from these 2 communities:Do not truly believe in God and their accountability before Him on judgment day.Do not forbid what their own messengers have clearly forbidden.Do not obey the rules and respect justice. They also say so and so is the son of God (Jesus or Ezra)They take their Rabbis and Monks as Lord i.e. they follow their word even if it contradicts the clear teachings of God in their books thus bringing them at par with God.Many of them even wrongfully consume people’s wealth and turn people away from God i.e. due to the greed of their religious leaders people don’t follow them and abandon the path to God.Its quite evident that all of the above is not committed by each and every Jew and Christian because Quran explicitly mentions the good and believers among them elsewhere and thus would contradict itself if understood in this manner. Therefore the words ‘Jews said ‘Ezra is the son of God’ is a crime of idolatry which is one of the grave ones that Quran mentions is being attributed to some of the Jewish community members as they did commit it at the time of the Prophet Muhammad (sallAllahu alaihi wassallam) as there is evidence for it too.We also need to keep in mind that Jews, all of them do not follow same thought, there are various sects and groups that have existed in the past and still exist. Some have survived down to our times while others perished in history. It is noted in classical Quran commentaries such as Tafsir Tabari in which according to a Tradition on the authority of Ibn 'Abbas (r.a) some of the Jews of Medina once said to Prophet Muhammad (sallAllahu alaihi wassallam):"How could we follow you when you has forsaken our qiblah (prayer direction) and do not consider Ezra a son of God?" (Muhammad Assad - Message of the Quran - Surah Taubah pg 364) (Source listed under references)According to another hadith source these 4 Jews who came to the Prophet were namely Salam ibn Mushakam, Nu'man ibn Ufay, Shaas ibn Qays and Malik ibn Summer and this tradition is mentioned here: الموسوعة الشاملة - تفسير البغوي طيبة (please select translate after clicking on the link)Therefore there is historical background and evidence that when this verse was revealed there were a group of Jews who held the belief of Ezra or Uzayr (alaihi salaam) being a son of God. Thus among the many listed crimes that Allah (swt) charges members of these 2 communities the crime of idolatry was indeed committed by some Jews in Madinah. It could very well be that there is a sect of Jews that still holds that belief but Allah (swt) knows best. Why does it say 'May Allah destroy them' if it is supposed to be Allah talking? To understand why Quran says ‘May Allah (swt) destroy them’ even though Quran is the word of Allah (swt), you need to understand it from classical Arabic perspective and not English. The reason for that is explained by Muhammad Assad in his translation and commentary who quoted Arabic philologists and classical Quran commentators carrying expertise in classical Arabic:(Al Quran 9:30) AND THE JEWS say, "Ezra is God's son," while the Christians say, "The Christ is God's son." Such are the sayings which they utter with their mouths, following in spirit assertions made in earlier times by people who denied the truth!" [They deserve the imprecation:] "May God destroy them!"My interpolation, between brackets, of the words "they deserve the imprecation" is based on Zamakhshari's and Razi's convincing interpretation of this phrase. Originally, the Arabs used the expression "may God destroy him" in the sense of a direct imprecation; but already in pre-Qur'anic Arabic it had assumed the character of an idiomatic device meant to circumscribe anything that is extremely strange or horrifying: and, according to many philologists, "this, rather than its literal meaning, is the purport [of this phrase] here" (Manor X, 399).(Surah Taubah 9:30 - Message of the Quran by Muhammad Assad pg 381) (Sources listed under references)Please note that similar form of idiomatic expressions are used in other Eastern languages too such as Farsi and Urdu but I can’t think of any example to give you in English so that you may understand better. Know that ‘May Allah destroy them’ is an idiomatic expression and can be understood better in English translation only with added words in parenthesis and that is what the scholars have explained.References:Message of the Quran - Muhammad Assad - Book available in PDF Muhammad Asad pdf booksالموسوعة الشاملة - تفسير البغوي طيبة

How do you evict a tenant in Las Vegas?

Great question. Lots of people aren’t aware that eviction laws can vary quite a lot from state to state, so I’m glad you specified in your question.Eviction laws in Nevada can all be found in the Nevada Revised Statutes, which are available online free of cost to landlords and tenants alike. You’ll find much of the information you’re looking for in Chapter 40, which deals with actions and proceedings regarding property. If you’re not a legal nerd who likes reading statutes for fun, there is a really handy guide to evictions on the Civil Law Self Help Center website. The website has free PDF downloads for most of the forms you’ll need to fill out and file with the county clerk.Okay, so to answer your question, the first question you need to ask yourself is why you’re evicting the tenant. Have they not paid rent? Are they violating their lease by subletting, having an unauthorized pet in the rental unit, etc.? Depending on this answer, you’ll need to select the correct notice to give to the tenant. So for example, if your tenant hasn’t paid rent, you need to serve them this 7-Day Notice to Pay Rent or Quit. Make sure you fill out the notice and serve it to the tenant correctly. Messing up a step in the eviction process can send you right back to square one, so do everything carefully. Notice that the seven days in the above notice are court days, not calendar days. So any day that the municipal court is not open, including weekends and holidays, does not count as a part of the tenant’s notice window. So if your tenant pays in the allotted time period, you’re good. No need to proceed with eviction. If they don’t pay after receiving the notice, you can file a Complaint for Summary Eviction. If, after receiving a copy of the complaint, the tenant decides to contest the eviction, both you and the tenant will get a notice to appear in court, where a judge will hear both sides of the story and rule in the landlord or tenant’s favor, possibly proceeding with an order to the local constable’s office to carry out an eviction on the tenant.Granted, this is a gross oversimplification of how just a portion of the eviction process works in Las Vegas. For more info, I highly recommend this article, which explains the different types of Nevada evictions and offers a step-by-step guide for landlords. Good luck!
