What is the psychology behind someone's favorite color?
COLORRIFICEVER WONDERED WHY YOU PREFER A PARTICULAR COLOR? A DARKER SHADE OR A SUBTLE HUE TO A CERTAIN DEGREE PERHAPS?WELL, I HAVE ALWAYS BEEN DRAWN TO COOLER SHADES MYSELF EVER SINCE, BLUE IN PARTICULAR. BRIGHT COLORS ARE AMAZING BUT ..JUST NOT MY CUP OF TEA I GUESS.In general, Bright colours elicit mainly positive emotional associations, while dark, drab colours elicit negative emotional associations - they weaken spirits, morale, health, and may lead to crime, inferiority, and inhibit optimism, inspiration, and success.WHAT INTERESTS ME THE MOST IS THE FACT THAT COLORS ACTUALLY DESCRIBE YOUR PERSONALITY…• REDSNeed to look good technically, be right, and be respected. They are strong leaders and love challenges.• BLUESNeed to have integrity and be appreciated. They are focused on quality and creating strong relationships.• WHITESNeed to be accepted and treated with kindness. They are logical, objective, and tolerant of others.• YELLOWSNeed to be noticed and have fun. They love life, social connections, and being positive and spontaneous.Warm and cool coloursColours can be described in terms of temperature, such as "warm" or "cool" according to the dominant wavelength of the colour. The warm colours (red, orange yellow) are of high wavelength and high energy. They are active and stimulating. People who like these colours tend to have shorter reaction times, and are more open and responsive to stimuli. They need to have their needs gratified and can be more aggressive. Preference for the colour yellow declines with age with less older people preferring yellow. The cool colours (blue, green and purple) are of low wavelength and energy and are considered to be restful and quiet. They are associated with sedate mood states, low arousal, soothing, relaxation and contemplation, selective in responses to stimuli, less distracted by noise, detached, cold, reserved, difficulty adapting to new circumstances. Blue is the lowest wavelength colour and is the opposite to red. Experiments have found that blood pressure decreases under blue light and increases under red light. The same applies to speed of respiration, blinking and brain waves. Blue is the colour most preferred by men.YOUR COLOR PERSONALITYWHITE.Positive: Hygiene, sterility, clarity, purity, cleanness, simplicity, sophistication, efficiency.Negative: Sterility, coldness, barriers, unfriendliness, elitism.White is the lightest color, meaning purity, innocence, and integrity. It was worn, even from antiquity, by high priests or in very important rituals. It is still a imperative color in the marriage process, used to depict the purity of the future wife.It is considered to represent perfection, as it is the purest and most complete color. It is the color that represents new begging and erases any trace of past actions. It is like a piece of white paper not being written yet. It leaves the mind open and free to whatever it might create in the way.According to Color Psychology Will Empower Your Life,Having a personality color white means you are neat and immaculate in your appearance, in the presentation of your home and in your car, almost to the point of being fanatical. You have impeccable standards of cleanliness and hygiene and you expect others to adhere to your high standards. You are far-sighted, with a positive and optimistic nature. You are well-balanced, sensible, discreet and wise. With a personality color white, you are cautious, practical and careful with money. You think carefully before acting - you are definitely not prone to impulsive behavior. You tend to have a great deal of self control. You are confident, poised and self-assured when at your most positive, but can also be very choosy and fastidious when the mood strikes. You can be very critical of yourself and others (in your need for perfection) - but you try to be fair and impartial as well. You are self-sufficient and a loner - you don't want or need help from anyone. However, you may also experience times of loneliness because of this trait. You may be wishing to create simplicity in your life - perhaps a wish to re-create your childhood, lost youth and happier times in your past life. You can be quite sexually prudish with your need for self-control and perfection. You hide your flaws from others to give an impression of perfection. You may appear to be shy, but you do have strong beliefs about most things and love the opportunity to air those beliefs. The challenge for you is to be open-minded and flexible and to communicate your needs and desires.YELLOW. EmotionalPositive: Optimism, confidence, self-esteem, extraversion, emotional strength, friendliness, creativity.Negative: Irrationality, fear, emotional fragility, depression, anxiety, suicide.Yellow is the color most associated with happiness and optimism, as well as creativity. It is definitely not the calming color that blue is, but it still has the ability to make people happier because it is also associated with warmth — because of the sun mostly. Yellow is unique in that there are no “dark yellows”. While other colors can have muted tones, yellow is bright no matter what. However yellow has a dark side to it..As described by A.M. Benis in his book, Caricatures of the NPA Personality Types:Sanguine non-perfectionistic aggressive typeNA types tend to be sanguine-complexioned, hyperactive extroverts. Both traits of ambition, i.e., unbridled narcissism and aggression, are fully manifest. High temperament individuals may be characterized by intemperate behavior not conducive to stable relationships. If the trait of aggression predominates, then the NA type may exhibit sadistic behavior. The NA type often seeks celebrity status, especially in the performing arts. Also known as: Cyclothymic, histrionic, hysterical or hypomanic-depressive personality. ...Color preference: Bright yellow, pink, orange, multicolors. The yellow wavelength is relatively long and essentially stimulating. In this case the stimulus is emotional, therefore yellow is the strongest colour, psychologically. The right yellow will lift our spirits and our self-esteem; it is the colour of confidence and optimism. Too much of it, or the wrong tone in relation to the other tones in a colour scheme, can cause self-esteem to plummet, giving rise to fear and anxiety. Our "yellow streak" can surface.According to Color Psychology Will Empower Your Life,If Your Favorite Color is Yellow you tend to have your head in the clouds much of the time. With a personality color yellow, you can be very critical of yourself as well as others - you are a perfectionist. You analyze everything, all the time, and are methodical in your thinking. With a yellow personality you are impulsive and make quick decisions, but often, out of anxiety, jump in too quickly and rush things rather than taking things at a steady pace. You have a strong independent streak in you, and are selective with your choice of friends, keeping a small group of close and like-minded friends rather than being involved in team events or large social gatherings. You are good at networking and getting information out of others. Journalists often resonate with the color yellow. Although you find it easy to make money, you tend to spend it rapidly and unwisely. With a personality color yellow, you can be stubborn but dislike pettiness and spitefulness of all kinds. You like to think you are intelligent and well educated, with knowledge about many topics. You are good at anything that involves the mind, rather than physical pursuits. Chess, crosswords, card games are yellow pursuits. You are a smart dresser and always dress to impress. You can be deceitful and stubborn if living from a negative perspective. You can also be arrogant, pretentious and snobbish.BLUE. Intellectual.Positive: Intelligence, communication, trust, efficiency, serenity, duty, logic, coolness, reflection, calm.Negative: Coldness, aloofness, lack of emotion, unfriendliness.A study done by YouGov concluded that blue is the most universally favored color of them all! "Blue ribbons" are the standard for achieving the first prize on a competition. A "true blue" friend is a description of a very loyal person. Blue is the color of the Virgin Mary, signifying her royalty as the "Queen" of Heaven. But on the negative side, "blue movies" is a term for pornography, feeling "blue" usually means we are sad, Dark blue is the shade that is associated with intelligence and lack of emotion. In fashion, blue, especially dark blue, is considered very formal attire. Because you are action orientated you are good at meeting deadlines and getting the job done at the right time. You can be quite determined when you want something, but tend to have a short attention span, moving on to the next best thing when you quickly get bored with the previous one - you want it all and you want it now! With a personality color red you may have an over active ego and appear over confident with a super inflated sense of your own worth.TO KNOW MORE ABOUT YOUR COLOR PERSONALITY TYPE, TAKE THE TEST(<: ===.> ColorCode Personality Science(The Color Code; Personality Differences And Your Relationship; Blue in Marketing - Color Psychology; isbn:1365875180 - Google Search; Narcissistic-aggressive personality type; Color Preference Personality Test; Psychological Properties Of Colours; Red;White)I do not own pictures and video please see google and youtube
Why are giant NBA players, like Kevin Durant at 6’9”, called ‘small’ forwards?
Welcome to “positionless” era of NBA.Otherwise, you might just want to know that “small forward” is just a position name. Now, onto the details:Back then, the height hierarchy is pretty clear. From point guard to Center, the physical to position corelation is pretty much definitive. In basketball, there are center, forward, and guard.Center are the central players, able to see above most other players due to their heights. They are often the backbone of many teams still sticking to classic pre-1980s basketball paradigm.Forward are called “forward” because they are meant to play deep inside the perimeter on both offense and defense. They need to be big because sometimes they have to be quite physical at winning spaces inside the perimeter. While guards are players who “guards” the outer perimeter. They don't have to be small, but nimble, fast, and durable enough to adequately cover the vast outer perimeter area. From these 3 general positions, you can divide them even further.Guards can be divided into:Point Guard (PG) is usually, note, usually, the shortest person in the team. Their job is to be the “point man”, which is, bringing the ball (dribbling) into play and distribute to any players with space. They need to be good at “ball handling”, which involves dribbling and passing the ball. Short players are ideal because this means less amount of travel between dribbling hand and the floor that bounces the ball back. It makes the ball very difficult to be knocked off the handler. But some “point guards” are also good scorers. Allen Iverson, Russell Westbrook, Stephen Curry, to Kyrie Irving are just a few examples of PG who are also a good scorers with their accurate shooting from all range, and are nimble and fast enough to make a dash into the point to get closer into the rim and dish a layup. These guys are “small" at 6′4” or less. But, then we have “PGs” like 6′9″ Earvin “Magic” Johnson and 6′10″ Ben Simmons. After all, the position is more about role & capability than role & physicality. Colloquially, pundits, fans churns out new terms like “point forward” or “point center” to 6′11″ physical freak players like Giannis Antetokounmpo who can handle the ball like a point guard. A superstar 6′8″ forward like LeBron James often plays as the “point man” too. Then we also have 7′ Center Nikola Jokić, who passes like an elite PG. At this point, it is our inherrent perspective that need to change to make sense of what these amazing NBA players are doing on the court. Then we have shooting guard (SG), which could also possess great ball handling skills besides scoring from the traditional guard playing area. Players like Michael Jordan and Kobe Bryant are known to be good ball handlers, if not the best during their times. But their main job is like their position name: shoot the ball. You traditionally train SGs to land long 2s or 3 pointers, and be quick and leading during fast break. This is a transition position between Guard and Forward, players like 6′6″ Vince Carter and his 6′8″ distant cousin Tracy McGrady often plays both guard and forward position. They often dubbed “FG” or “GF”. But honestly, I don't have an ideal picture besides 6′6″ 216 lbs Michael Jordan being the definitive shooting guard. He moves and scores on the offense and steals during defense. There are also two kinds of Forward, one of which became your source of confusion:After this, we have Small Forward (SF) in question. If anything, SF are anything but “small”. Like I said, there are not definitive physical requirement, rather than the players' playing style and their capability. SF ideally has to be more physical than SG. They are usually “bigger” than the SG, just like 6′7″ 210 lbs Scottie Pippen is SF to 6′6″ 216 lbs Michael Jordan. But then again, Pippen is 6 to 10 lbs lighter than Jordan. SF was traditionally there to provide a more attacking option inside the paint, besides the more bulkier and powerful forward, which usually plays their offense like the center. Some say, SF is more offense oriented than PF, but then, this is just a general observation that does not necessarily applies to every NBA team.Kevin “KD" Durant's current Golden State Warriors team is also phenomenally skewed, with 6′10” 238 lbs KD playing the SF, while 6′7″ 230 lbs Draymond Green play the “strong side” of forward position or Power Forward (PF). Clearly, you can picture that Green must be bulkier than Durant from that height/weight comparison, and thus being physically more imposing than the MVP. Before Durant joined the team, Green was the SF, while the PF was filled by 6′11″ 270 lbs Zaza Pachulia. In this case, KD's height provided a preferable mismatch that allows him to tower over his opponent. So, what is actually an SF? In traditional sense? 6′9″ 220 lbs Larry Bird. That's your traditional “best” SF there. He shoots inside the perimeter instead of getting into the physical action near the rim. But for a more physical version of ideal modern SF, you got the King himself, LeBron James, a 6′8″ 250 lbs freight train that is virtually unstoppable.Playing in the other side of the perimeter is the Power Forward (PF), a slower, taller, bulkier inside player that uses their physical attributes to achieve their goals in both offense and defense. Shorter PFs like 6′6″ Charles Barkley bulked up to 242 lbs to make him more physically imposing toward his counterpart, and when combined with his jumping ability or “vertical”, he became one of the best PFs in NBA history. Other g“short” PFs in this list besides Draymond Green is 6′7″ Dennis Rodman. He simply plays the PF position just because of his playing style, his defense and rebounding prowess. He has the knack to win loose ball-wtestling in the air over his taller opponents, which is one of the primary job description of a PF.Now, KD, being 3–4″ taller than these legendary PFs, doesn't necessarily makes him better at doing this. The same goes to 6′11″ Dirk Nowitzki, a PF of Dallas Mavericks that rarely goes to the inside for scoring and have unremarkable defensive play inside the perimeter. A PF is generally a nimbler or faster Center, or a (not necessarily) shorter Center. If you want an example of a great PF, look no further than 6′11″ 260 lbs Tim Duncan. But then, Tim Duncan has quite a decent shooting range. The 6′10″ 250 lbs Blake Griffin is a more of traditional PF in the sense that he prefers to attack the rim up close more than firing from distance. So, now, you are reaching the biggest players on the court, Center (C). You would imagine a big Genie like Shaquille O'Neal at 7′1″ and 325 lbs or towering Yao Ming with 7′5″ and 311 lb. We get it: center is the biggest guy out there. But not really. Detroit Piston's ultimate defensive muscle Ben “Big Ben" Wallace is only 6′9” at 250 lbs, completely lean with only 3–7% body fat. Being shorter than most centers doesn't make him any less effective at playing that position. He is 4 times NBA Defensive Player of the Year, a NBA champion, 2 times rebounding leader, one time block leader, and 4 times All Star selection. Both Big Ben and Shaq has one thing in common: physical presence. Having on them court simply makes your rim nearly unapproachable. Both of them are difficult to move and stays there like a concrete bollard, and when they play their “post up” game, Shaq is just like a bulldozer that will push his defender to the corner until he gets within the rim. For a more athletic variant, you got Dwight Howard, a 6′11″ and 265 lbs pile of pure muscle, whose athleticism and finesse often outplays his opposing counterpart. However, Centres nowadays can also shoot from outside the perimeter. Nikola Jokić, Brook Lopez, Joel Embiid, DaMarcus Cousins, and many modern day NBA centers shoot from outside the perimeter. This ability doesn't change the fact that they are the most physically imposing big man among their teammates, thus they occupy the center position.Position is also about player parityThe 2019 Team LeBron for the NBA All-star weekend are all played in the modern “small ball” starting lineups. They are:LeBron James (FG), Kevin Durant (F), Kyrie Irving (G), Kawhi Leonard (FG), and James Harden (G).Whoa there, who is going to be the center? Who do you think is going to be the center?KD, because him being the tallest?Nope. We all know that it will be LeBron. The most physical of them all, and probably the player with the most vertical out of all of them. That is just a testament to his versatility.Who will be the PF? Could be Kawhi, since KD often refuses outright to play that position. Kawhi are decent all-round, 2-way player that excels at both offense and especially defense.Team Giannis will have the following starters:Giannis Antetokounmpo (F/C), Joel Embiid (C), Stephen Curry (PG), Paul George (F), and Kemba Walker (PG).As you can see, Giannis is being sidelined from Center spot, due to him being more quick and athletic than Embiid. Curry, is sidelined from PG due to his much better shooting ability than Walker.Basketball is a very dynamic game that doesn't necessarily conform rigidly into this position designation. If players have extra non-traditional abilities that are expected from players playing their positions, that would be very welcomed, because it might cause a matchup nightmare for the other team. Giannis, being a nimble 6′11″ giant that Eurosteps from 3 point line, constantly dunking from free throw line or outside the paint area during competitive game like it is a dunk contest, is one of the most imbalanced player we have ever seen today. As a point forward, he easily towers almost 1 full foot from most other PGs out there. If you don't want to get injured, just let the Greek Freak on his way when he starts aiming for the jam. As predictable as his game is, it seems like nobody can stop him from averaging 29.9 points per game doing mostly just that.Meanwhile, out in Denver, you have Jokić, the Joker. An ex-overweight guy who used to chug 3 litres of soda a day. He is rather clumsy and expectedly slow, quite an unathletic center that plays with a brain of a point guard. Now, that's unusual. He recorded more triple doubles (without observable stat-padding plays, like other star players) than the amount of dunks made. Little wonder that he made the All-star selection this year and fans including Charles Barkley has been advocating for his MVP candidacy.KD is a SF simply because he plays like a SF regardless of his physical characteristics. His clutch shooting performance is almost second to none. Assigning him to a more physical role will risk injury to him, or simply makes him less effective. As players in football are continuously redefining roles and positions, so does basketball. An all-giant team today like Giannis, Embiid, Jokić, Anthony Davis, and DaMarcus Cousins wouldn't face much trouble like an all-giant of bygone eras, consisting of all-time greats like Hakeem Olajuwon, Shaquille O'Neal, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Wilt Chamberlain, and Bill Russell. None of these legendary big men has the ball handling ability of Giannis, none of these big men has the three point shooting accuracy of Jokić, Cousins, and Embiid.A different era of basketball requires different perception about the game. It is definitely getting “smaller” now, due to the rules making the game less physical. So, who knows what will happen in the future.
