That’s not entirely accurate.The general consensus is that no-one likes Ted Cruz. His college roommate has come out and said Cruz was universally hated there.When Cruz became a clerk at the U.S. Supreme Court, none of the other clerks could stand him either.And the scuttlebutt is that none of his Senate colleagues can stand him either.Now, he’s undoubtedly brilliant. He finished at the top of his class and he’s one of the few Supreme Court clerks who got a positive recommendation from Chief Justice Renquist.But he’s also horribly arrogant. He lords his intelligence over everyone he meets. He’s pretty much incapable of having a conversation where he’s not trying to prove he’s smarter than you are. He probably is.

I haven’t always done this right. But I’ll give you an example of when I did:I liked a girl but I was too scared to ask her out.So I just started sitting by her during college, sending extra attention in her general direction.There was no bravado or persona to be laid on thick. Just acted normal and got to know her.Here’s the thing: Women are (usually) very intuitive about these things. They pick up on a guy being in their close proximity; they know how to read what is happening.So I kept sitting by her a little bit each day. Just focused on having normal conversations, on getting to know her.I tried to keep a pulse on her openness to me being near her. She seemed a bit nervous at first. But got used to me with time.Eventually, at other places, she’d seek me out and say hi.She sat with me more, began opening up more.She was always smiling, always laughing at my jokes.Sometimes, she’d nudge me with her elbow teasing me.It flowed naturally. She seemed to be into it too.The terror of rejection dramatically decreased. I felt like I had a better understanding of who she was, it made me want to ask her out more.We both knew each other. We both seemed into each other.Saying, “Want to grab dinner sometime?” was the easiest thing in the world at that point.It was an easy and expected “yes”.I generally recommend taking things slow with this stuff.If you don’t have the patience you can just ask a girl out directly.But I like my low-risk plan better. The odds of being rejected are lower. And you’ll feel less like you are cornering a girl, putting her on the spot for a yes/no answer.Just talk. Have conversations. Be normal.

It means that the next steps are up to you. The decision as to whether to attend is yours, but you need to let them know soon (one way or another). If you decide to attend, there are a whole host of other decisions and actions needed on your part: Such as residence hall and meal plan decisions, and payments to be made. I also recommend conversations with the financial aid office, and with an academic advisor as to your major and first semester courses.Additionally, and you may not want to hear this, I recommend getting a head start on your first semester courses. It’s a pain to think of doing academic work in the summer, but there are rich payoffs in terms of success when the semester gets under way.
