Due to closer relations with Russia the last decade, Mongolian Ministry of Education resumed Russian language classes. Mongolian education sector is in the process of converting to 12 year (previously it was 10 years) curriculum. This conversion has been mostly completed last year. In the new curriculum, Russian language is taught from 7th grade.Mandatory languages:1.Russian Language: 7–9grades (70 hours). its approximately 2 hours per week2. English Language: 5–9 grades (68–120 hours). 2–3 hours per week.The languages become elective from 10th grade.In grades 10–12, languages become elective. You can also choose the language: either English or Russian, also depending on the school Chinese, Japanese etc.Interestingly, when I asked my friends, nobody knew that its being taught. Only parents whose children study in 7th grade and up knew. Had to look deeper into the new curriculum.But even with this update, I doubt many kids could speak good Russian. 2 hours per week is really not enough….
