I've heard both spelling out the acronym and pronouncing as a one-syllable word. It started out as a pure acronym, "L.O.L." That was the way I first saw it in interoffice email in the early 1990's, before most people had home computers and there really was no internet to speak of. (Remember acoustic modems?) They would say it that way, too, "ell-oh-ell."As people got used to email, and the internet started to catch on, people stopped using periods in their acronyms, and it was "LOL", but still capitalized and pronounced, "ell-oh-ell."When people started using text messages with small, hand-held phones, the use of the shift key almost disappeared entirely, so it became "lol". I think this is where the pronunciation changed to "loll". The acronym had become a word, so it was no longer spelled out in speech. I think this happened no more than ten years ago. There is a good reason for it. Shifting between upper and lower case on a phone is difficult at best. Even typing characters is cumbersome enough that most users rapidly figure out how to get away with fewer keystrokes. Punctuation is another casualty. Most messages look like the official lyrics to a song by Prince, "b4 i c u r u rdy 2 go lol l8tr". Have you noticed how many people leave out question marks when asking questions on the internet? Have you seen these same people end with a question mark for a declarative sentence where they express doubt? ("I don't know what to do?") Marginally literate people do weird stuff with language. Thus, twisting and convoluting the phrase "laugh out loud" such that its meaning becomes obscure and ambiguous is not an unexpected occurrence.The phone with a keypad (either hard or soft) was a sea change in computer use. We were required by work rules to capitalize official acronyms so that they might be understood only as acronyms and not confused with words that they might spell out.There was no reason to stop capitalizing acronyms, but some people started doing it as a stylistic affectation. These are the "cutesy" types who don't like to capitalize anything, like using "i" instead of "I", in a pretentious exhibition of false humility. Actually, this practice started among Unix operating system users who used a printing teletype as a console device that only printed upper case characters. As the OS was case sensitive, and if you actually typed an upper case letter 'X', it would be rendered as "*X*", they got into the habit of never using the shift key. A large portion of these upper case phobics don't even know the origin of the practice, but do it because it "looks cool." These are the same people who dot the letter 'i' in their name with a little heart. Idiots.Don't be surprised if in a few years everyone says "loll", and if you say, "ell-oh-ell", no one will know what you mean. The acronym will be lost and the neologism will be all the remains. This is quite normal; it has happened before.Do you remember the name of the operating system we used to use on generic, non-Apple, PCs before Windows? It was MS-DOS, for "Microsoft Disk Operating System". You had to say, "em-ess-doss" or people would laugh at you. If you said, "mizz-dose", it was taken as a joke. If you said, "em-ess-dee-oh-ess" you would get a blank look because no one said it that way after about 1986. In its last few years of use, people didn't even know what "DOS" stood for, or even that is wasn't a word. I was working at Microsoft at the very end of that period and often saw it written as "MS-Dos". It's curious that the acronym changed to a word, but "MS", the abbreviation for "Microsoft" was never written as "Ms" even though it wasn't an acronym and stood for a single name, not two separate words. Seriously.Integrated paymentsAnother item that falls under the business category, Wix allows those sites carrying on eCommerce activities to access a few payment methods. The main options are a little limited – you can use PayPal or some other form of manual payment such as cash (something like an ATM bank-in) or cheque.This is only the default, however. Should you need more options, you can leverage on some of the apps on the Wix market. For example, one of their apps for Online Payments lets you accept credit card payments as well, complete with payment reminders and invoicing.Important NoteWix Payments isn’t available everywhere. It’s only allowed in a handful of countries – primarily the euro region. If you aren’t in one of those places, you will need a third party payments processor.Tasks and RemindersAs you build your website, leverage Wixs’ tasks and reminders tool so that you’ll always be aware of what else you need to do to complete your site. In fact, I found this helpful even after the fact, since I administer quite a few websites.Each time you log in to your account, just pop over and you can go over your list, adding new stuff or marking things off as you complete it.Invite contributorsThe theme word of the day is collaboration and here Wix lets you invite people to dialogue with you on your website. This can be helpful in a number of ways. Some websites also offer this in the form of live chat services.With Wix, you have options to ‘automate’ your site as well! This can happen in several ways.
