I've come from the United States to India looking for a cure for Transverse Myelitis. There isn't a cure anywhere in the world, but I've found the next best thing, stem cell therapy.Stem cells are undifferentiated biological cells that can differentiate into specialized cells and can divide(through mitosis) to produce more stem cells. [1]In a nutshell, when injected to the affected area of the spinal cord, they can "convert" themselves into neurons which might make a patient with a Spinal Cord Injury, be able to walk again. Of course, this is still in research and I might have this all wrong, please correct me if I have made a mistake.Stem cell research was banned in the USA thanks to George W. Bush, which has delayed the progess which could have possibly shown magnificent results. President Obama has lifted that ban and research is still going on to see the result of embryonic stem cells.The stem cell treatment which I'm taking is derived from my bone marrow and injected in my spine, it's called adult (autologous) stem cell therapy. I've seen great results so far which make me hopeful for the future. The same treatment is available in Georgia, but it is only for patients who've had their injury for only a year. Paulo Coelho’s endless dirt-water stream of self-help books with a fictional hook makes my entire being wince itself into neuralgia and my eyes roll back into my skull over and over again like strips on a slot machine. Literal — and literary — garbage. Wouldn’t touch anything by him without a hazmat suit and iodine pills. E.g. The Alchemist. Dear Lord. Part of my Grade 10 English curriculum. I still mourn the axioms it singed off my neurons. The legal battle with the publisher is still ongoing for a reimbursement of the precious hours I wasted perusing this absolute ink-waster. It’s like someone read the blurb on the back of a C.S. Lewis book and said: “Let’s replicate it — but awfully, though.” His sleeves should come with health warnings and pictures of catatonic patients and coughing children, just like cigarette packs. I’m sure he’s sleeping deep and sound robed in the beddings of his half-billion dollar networth. If by “MS doctor” , you are referring to doctors who specialize in treating Multiple Sclerosis, you are talking about a neurologist MD or DO. Neurologists deal with disorders and injuries of the central nervous system (brain and spinal cord), disorders of the Autonomic Nervous System (Sympathetic and Parasympathetic Ganglia), Nerve roots, nerves, nerve bundles, muscles, synapses between neurons and neurons to muscle cells, the vasculature associated with nerves, muscles, and interactions with all of these structures with other body systems like hormones. MS is cause by demyelination of axons in CNS neurons, which slow the nerve signal speed, leading to weakness, pain, cramping, spasticity, and even dementia. The majority of neurologists who specialize in MS also deal with other neurological conditions as well. My wife is a notable US board-certified, neurologist MD. MS represents maybe a third of her patients. Her pay is based on her “production”, which is based on a complex algorithm that compares how much she charges for visits, compared with other neurologists with similar practices.
