What do you think of the interference of Trump supporter's voter registration by Clinton campaign team workers?

Let me start by saying — one can definitely be underwhelmed by the people one meets working for campaigns. Bill Clinton was a candidate I believed in, and I lived in New York in 1992. The Democratic Convention was in NYC that year and I thought: what the heck, let me go down and volunteer. Maybe I’ll make some friends. I volunteered. I didn’t connect with the people I met there. I was in the sign-making room. It seemed like everyone else in there was a frat boy looking for a career in DC. They were congratulating each other and themselves for how soon they had gotten out of the Tom Harkin campaign or the Paul Tsongas campaign and bet on Bill Clinton as the winning horse. They figured the earlier they joined the campaign, the better their chances for landing a good job in Washington later. None had any particular commitment to Bill Clinton and Al Gore’s campaign that I could see — or any strong principles or ideas that I could make out. I wanted to make signs about issues of substance that people could wave on the convention floor. They wanted to make signs portraying Ross Perot as Inspector Clouseau and, since the movie Bill and Ted’s Excellent Adventure had just come out, they made lots of signs saying BILL AND AL’S EXCELLENT ADVENTURE. I was hoping to meet people who were idealistic, and not without a sense of humor but who had some substance, and I was kind of disgusted by how shallow I found these boys to be. When President Clinton, after winning, gave his important speech on health care, and we found out a few days later that some clown had put the wrong speech on his monitor and for the first ten minutes or so he had had to give it by heart because he knew it by heart — I wondered if one of the boys I met in that room had been the bozo in charge of putting speeches on the teleprompter. So, what I’d say about the young man at the start of this clip is — if he were running for president — I wouldn’t vote for him. He seems like another silly frat boy, trying to be cool. Fortunately, he’s not on the ballot. If his behavior is making women on the campaign uncomfortable, he should be fired. If he’s just a sophomorish unpaid staffer sounding off, well — I think there are immature kids like that to be found in every campaign. It’s only when a sophomorish frat boy is the candidate, as on the Republican side currently, that there is a major problem. As for the later stuff, with someone pretending to be a Hillary staffer and saying he has ripped up voter registration forms for people who said they are Republicans — clearly, that is not something he has been instructed to do, and clearly, that is not the policy for Clinton staffers. Nevertheless, if this footage is real and he told someone higher up in the campaign (again, possibly another unpaid staffer) that he had done this … if that footage is real, I think his superior needs to be fired for not firing him on the spot. Yes, this is a gotcha! staged event. But people’s right to vote is simply too important. His boss, who is also a very young person, should lose his job because he made clear that he would wink at destroying people’s voter registration forms, and that is NOT okay.I don’t like to see Democrats behaving like Republicans. The whole Republican electoral strategy these days is based on voter suppression (except in congressional races, where it’s also based on gerrymandering districts). The concept is: undermine the Voting Rights Act, play all kinds of games with voter ID laws, (gun licenses are valid ID! College IDs are not!), purge the rosters of names that sound black and Latino, end early voting, discourage voter registration, close lots of voting booths in black and Latino neighborhoods, don’t have a paper trail, put defective equipment in poor neighborhoods … plus, you have Donald Trump telling his supporters to be self-appointed poll-watchers, to go out and intimidate and harass people waiting on line to vote … I don’t want Democrats to be any part of that: the revived Jim Crow tactics, the new cyber-sabotage by the Russians — none of it. So, to answer your question, I definitely do not feel good about a Democratic campaign guy agreeing to turn a blind eye to that bad behavior, and if this footage is real, I think the campaign guy should lose his job.

How bureaucratic is the United States Armed Forces?

In order for me to travel over a four day weekend outside a certain radius required:Three copies of a DA31 leave and pass form properly filled out and signed by three peopleA vehicle safety checklist that required an inspection of my car (regardless of whether I woukd be using it) and showing proof of license, registration and insurance.A printout of my planned route from Mapquest.A printout of the Drivers Safety Instruction and Training Web site showing that I answered questions correctly.A DA Form 4856 General Counseling form that informed me of my responsibilities and the impact failure to adhere to the regulations and limitations could have on my career. All of that, in order to go on a trip. This isn't for actual leave that would be credited agsinst my earned vacation days. This wasn't in order to excuse my absence from work for a day. This was in order for me to travel on my day off. This was something I had to do as a E7 Sergeant First Class with multiple combat deployments, nearly 20 years of service (at the time) and the responsibility of the health, training, welfare and discipline of 30 men and equipment in excess of $20 million. We're talking armored vehicles, complex communications systems, high security clearance, huge guns and optics to make the night turn into day.So, yeah, there's a bit of bureaucracy.
