The first thing you should do is contact the community and let them know that someone took the entry key. Unfortunately, you may have some liability in that regard. They may need to rekey it and you may have to pay for that rekeying. You will need to buy a new key from the community if the person took the only key.You will want to rekey your locks as well. Depending on the number of locks, this will cost a couple of hundred bucks, probably. Do this sooner rather than later. You don’t want the person coming back and getting into your home.Your next step is to send a demand letter to the person with receipts for the expenses you had. Assuming you had no lease, and depending on the jurisdiction in which you live, the person probably had to give you 30 day’s notice to move out. You could therefore also seek that rent if you are so inclined. If they refuse to pay the expenses and/or the rent you could sue them in small claims court.In the future, make sure you have a written lease spelling out requirements as well as costs. You can find a template online for your jurisdiction, most likely.

Them expecting you to support them is not elder abuse. If they're somehow forcing you to support them against your will, that’s elder abuse. You don't owe them anything.However, what they're doing is disrespectful and completely unacceptable. If it were me, I'd draw up a legal 30-day eviction notice, sending it to them via certified mail so there's a record of their receiving it. If for some reason you don't want to throw them out, draw up a legal lease, laying out the terms of their tenancy (rent, with due date and late fees, utilities, food costs, etc). Give them a week to sign the lease, and serve them with eviction papers if thhey refuse. There are plenty of websites offering free templates for both documents. Be sure and keep your signed copies, give them recipts when they pay the rent, and put any late notices in writing.These are no longer your children. They are freeloaders who need to become paying tenants or move out.

I don’t think anyone has studied mistakes to rank them as “most common”, but here are some mistakes I know of.Assuming that std::unordered_map is blazingly fast because it is a hash table. In actual measurements it was only about twice as fast as std::map on a table of 100,000 strings.Using list, map, or deque when they might get better performance out of vector.Not providing move assignment operator and move constructor, and not making these nothrow when defining item types for vector and deque.Not looking at other container classes beyond the STL. boost::circular_buffer is almost as fast as vector, has O(1) insertion and deletion at both ends, and other useful properties. I wrote a nifty article about it.Searching map and unordered_map twice when you want to put a new entry in if it isn’t already in. There’s a coding idiom that only searches once.Not estimating the size of a vector or string, and reserving space for the estimated size.
