Yes. Back in 1986 I was convicted for embezzlement, I was told at the time that it was plead down to a misdemeanor through a plea deal with the D.A. by my public defender (A.K.A. public pretender ). I went about my life as normal. I married had kids, bought guns, voted, traveled out of the country bought homes, rented homes after divorce. Life was good.I did have a few more run in’s with the law, picked up a few other misdemeanor charges, paid my fines and did my probation/s. Life was still good.Then in 2011 I was arrested for a felony possession charge and went to court, made a plea deal for probation (20 yrs) to avoid spending any more time in jail, I had a family to support and it would be a year before a trial would be set and I was under a $1,000,000 bond , so I took the deal with a suspended sentence of 8 moths to a year in prison.When the judge read my charges and looked at mitigating circumstances he informed my lawyer and myself that this will be my second felony conviction! I was taken aback by this. I asked the judge when the other felony was entered and he informed me that it was Aug. 23rd 1986. I tried to argue that it was reduced but the judge was not having it. After I left the court I checked into it. Sure as shit I was a convicted felon since 1986.Eventually I decided that serving 8 moths to a year would be better than paying probation and jumping through the systems hoops for the next 20 years, which I probably would die on probation. At the time my second marriage was ending so I left my home went to live in another county without informing my probation officer, which is against my terms, then contacted my P.O. and asked him to revoke my probation and I turned myself in served 7 months in prison working on the beach during the summer and fall. I left prison with no probation no parole, basically a free man with 2 prior felony convictions. That part never goes away.I am 55 now and life is good, except I am supposed to check that box that ask “were you ever convicted of a felony?” My answer…. nope.Rule : 317

It depends on the type of charge and the terms of probation. In some jurisdictions, a court can order a defendant to serve “condition time,” as a requirement of probation. Additionaly, if the defendant violates probation, s/he could face additional jail time.

Yes, IPS officers do volunteer to join NSG as commando. They have to clear the NSG commando probation period at NSG training Centre which is grilling and tests the physical standards to the highest. If they clear NSG Probation then they are observed on deputation. Also, NSG is part of home ministry and any employee irrespective of rank or appointment of state police, central armed police forces and Assam Rifles can volunteer and go on deputation in NSG. There are specific qualifying requirements such age and number of years of service in their parent organisation need to be fulfilled.There are even IPS officers who are serving as commando in NSG but they are very few in numbers as it has been commonly observed that majority of IPS officers either quit or couldn’t clear the probation period of NSG.
