I used to get confronted all the time about my appearance not matching up with my official gender. Cue awkward explanations.In the end I got so fed up with having to go through this humiliation over and over that I vowed to just have my bleedin’ official gender changed to ‘female’ to meet people’s expectations. Before that just getting answers about my intersex condition had been more on my mind.Dutch law for intersex gender changes (to ‘correct’ f*ckups during gender assignment of intersex babies after birth) requires one to prove that one is not fertile as the sex which one will no longer be, so the easiest solution was to just get some testicles chopped off.This proved to be a blessing in disguise, as the following orchiectomy (in Germany, as elective orchiectomies are illegal in the Netherlands) along with the exploratory surgery in the perineum not only showed that my testicles were underdeveloped (never producing much testosterone, let alone sperm) but also the entrance of the (unattached) vagina.These findings gave me a lot of answers about my intersex condition, but also made making use of this Dutch law to change my official sex a mere formality. Even my lawyer was shocked at how easy this went. As it was the first time this law had been used, I also came on national TV with it, which was kind of interesting.After this forced exile into involuntary female-to-male transsexuality got ended this way, there have been zero incidences about my gender identity. My phenotype is simply that of a woman, ergo all social expectations are met. As for what’s between my legs, that’s something between me, any love interest and my doctor.

My Masters is from Bremen University, Germany. During my study, I had the privilege of having very nice people around me. My group finished the first task in the first hour of preparation and moved to the next part. At that time, I came to know that the other group, that has identical first part to our part, sitting one row behind us, is still busy in solving the first part. I told them that we are done with the first part, and offered if I can have a look at their approach to solve the problem. I realized the ambiguity and told them about it. They thanked me and kept working.After about another 30 minutes, they were still stuck with the same part. Seeing this, I offered them to have a thorough look at my group’s script so that they can, somehow, get the job done and proceed to the next part. They, knowing the time constraint, had to agree on this. They had a look at the script, thanked me and got the problem solved.Next day, the presentations were on board. My group was the first one to present. We presented and breathed a sigh of relief. When our fellow group’s presentation came, they started the presentation with the basic introduction. When their presentation came to the first task, the guy pointed towards me, and took my name, and acknowledged the help in front of the whole class, and gave the whole credit of that part to my group. I, who was sitting passively, was taken off guard by this act of honesty. Never ever had I thought that he would bring me up in his presentation, I was not even expecting it at all. It was definitely not a kind of help that had to be made a part of the presentation. I was completely mesmerized by this act of morality, veracity. No wonder they are a great nation and it takes a lot of rectitude to become one.
