Push a teen in a wheelchair around an indoor track, because all of his non-wheelchair-bound classmates had to do three laps around the track.I was this kid’s one-on-one aide, hired by the school district. He was a really cool kid… totally there mentally, but quadriplegic due to cerebral palsy. He was witty and smart, but had some serious depression issues because of his disability.My job was to push him from class to class, take his notes for him, proctor any tests for him, and basically make sure he was as included in the normal high school scene as much as possible.Normal students have gym class. He wasn’t exempt. All of the other students were doing laps, so he had to do them too. Rules are rules.He appreciated the humor of the absurdity of the situation, and eventually got his parents to contact the school and tell the school to please excuse their child from gym class. But, for a few days there, I pushed him around the track. Fortunately, there was another student in a wheelchair in his class, with another aide who had to do the same thing. We (the aides) walked and talked while we did it, and both agreed that it was all ridiculous.

I will be attending Louisiana State University (LSU) - Baton Rouge this fall to pursue my MS in Mechanical Engineering.I just can't wait to experience the electrifying atmosphere inside the 7th largest stadium in the world - The tiger stadium!(This is how the stadium looks when it is jam-packed)The URec is also something that I'm looking forward to see. It has an indoor track which I can't wait to run on!LSU also boasts of a million dollar pool, that I'm quite eager to swim in.Also looking forward to meet Mike the tiger (a live tiger on campus, yes!) at his habitat in LSU.Geaux Tigers!Love Purple, Live Gold!

I ran indoor track this year at my school. I don’t know if the events are identical at every school, but at least in my conference this is what they were:55m dash55m hurdles4x200m relay (“four by two”)300m (possibly the most painful thing I’ve ever done)4x400m relay (“four by four”)600m4x800m relay (“four by eight”)Split-Relay: 100m-100m-200m-400m1,000m1,600 meter (“the mile”)3,200 meter (“the two mile”)Long Jump (my personal favorite)High JumpTriple Jump (I’ve only ever seen it at one meet, but it exists)Pole VaultShot-Put (4kg women’s, 12lb men’s)Weight Throw (20lb women’s, 25lb men’s, I’ve only ever seen this at one meet)Indoor track is really fun, but it’s cold if your school doesn’t have an indoor track or you aren’t in a warm climate. I recommend it if you’re looking to get conditioned for a spring sport, or if you want something to do in the winter besides basketball or something else.Have fun!
