There are so many thoughtful answers to this question and I agree with all of the things mentioned so far. But the biggest reality check for me in the days and weeks after bringing our first daughter home from the hospital was the incredible amount of extra laundry that this tiny little person could generate. Before the arrival of my daughter, I would do 2–3 loads of laundry once a week. After her arrival laundry quickly became a daily requirement.Between the small, and sometimes large, amounts of milk she would bring up after every feeding for the first year, which soaked countless burp cloths, bibs, her clothes and our clothes, and the dreaded diaper blowouts, all of us were changing our clothes 2–3 times a day. If I wanted clean burp cloths for the next day, I had to do at least one load every day. And I wanted those clean burp cloths. There is nothing worse than grabbing a burp cloth to clean up baby and realizing it is still full of sour milk!Of course all that extra laundry was well worth it for our little angel, but it was definitely something that had not even occurred to me would be necessary before bringing her home from the hospital.

When you’re feeding your baby, it’s normal for them to swallow a bit of air. Doesn’t matter if you’re breastfeeding or making them drink formula. However, these air bubbles trapped in their stomach makes them uncomfortable and will make her uncomfortable even before they’re done feeding.So it’s important to release the air by burping your easy if you want to keep your baby as comfortable as possible.Here are some of the tips how you can make them burp:Always place a burp cloth between your cloths and the baby’s mouthKeep a cloth or a baby in hand in case the baby spitsA gentle rub will usually work but sometimes you will have to use a firm handFocus on the left sideIncreased fussing maybe because of more swallowed air, don’t wait around and burp them right away

These are the things I regret buying:Diaper Genie - literally any garbage pail will work just as well, if not better. Just put baking soda in the canister.Stockpile of diapers - you have no idea which ones will work for your LO. Get coupons and sample packs instead and then use the coupons to buy the ones that actually work with your baby.Washcloths, burp clothes and baby towels - literally any towels you have will suffice and are probably nicer than the flimsy baby ones. My son only likes our ultra plush white towels and so what a waste of money buying him hooded towels that weren’t soft. I used swaddles as burp clothes and they’re way more multi-use anyways and my son hated washclothes, because he liked being taken into the shower till he could sit up.Baby bath tub - didn’t use it, he preferred showers.Nursing Pillow - hardly ever used it. My pillows are a lot more comfortable.Owlet - it didn’t work. I only ever recommend the Cocoon Cam. It’s a lot better bang for your buck, it’s saved my sons life before AND it doesn’t touch your child. Love it and hate the stupid $500 Owlet garbage sock.Baby mittens - he always got them off. Just invest in a good nail file or clipper.Lanolin - it didn’t help me at all. I used coconut oil and it worked way better and you may already have it.Diaper bag - they are overpriced and hideous. Just buy some travel organizers and a bag you actually like or use one you already have. Works and looks so stylish.Baby Wrap - my baby wouldn’t for the life of me, hold still so I could successfully wrap him to me. I used the baby carrier (infantino) and it was a lot easier and cheaper (also lasted till now as a toddler).
