CALCULUS: BACKBONE OF JEE MATHSCalculus is the most important section of JEE maths with a weightage of around 30–35% and application everywhere. The Syllabus is vast and it is usually towards the difficult side but JEE has been focusing on a few topics only(there is no guarantee of anything I am just presenting my experience). It’s highly conceptual but you need to practice a lot to be able to solve JEE questions in time.SYLLABUS(What to focus on ?):Functions: basics of calculus, a lot of terms to understand(it’s nice to be clear with the definitions). A lot of questions on the identification of one-one/many-one onto/into odd/even functions but they are not that straightforward. One must be very good at drawing graphs ( trigonometric, logarithmic, exponential, polynomial, and rational functions should be on tips). JEE has focused on properties and application of GIF, fractional part functions a lot. Another set of problems that JEE loves is range and domain. Apart from that do cover inverse functions and composite functions. All these topics are mixed together so you can’t miss out on anythingLimits: A very important chapter. A lot of focus on the existence and evaluation of limits ( an independent question, so one has to be thorough with all methods). Conversion of a limit to definite integration is one of JEE’s all-time favourite ( tricky and difficult questions). Extensive application everywhere else in differential calculus.Continuity and Differentiability: application of limits and functions. There is mostly a question on checking of continuity/differentiability or even continuity/ differentiability of derivative in multiple correct format (easy to fetch negative marks so be patient while solving and practice a lot beforehand)Differentiation: Mostly a question on the application of the Leibnitz theorem(hot topic, JEE never forgets to cover it). All other stuff is never really asked.Application of Derivatives: Another very important chapter. Tangents and Normals are not asked much these days( generally covered in Co-ordinate geometry). Rolle’s Theorem, IVT and Lagarange’s Theorem are JEE’s favourite with really tough questions being asked constitently ( loads of practice required). Another important section is increasing, decreasing functions maxima and minima (graph drawing is essential). Sometimes all concepts are mixed and presented in form of a comprehension or a word problem type question.Indefinate Integration: There is no need to say that you must know how to integrate functions(one must be thorough wit all topics). But independent problems on indefinate are rarely asked(if it comes it’s going to be a tough one). It’s important to practice a lot because it is extensively used in Definite, Area, Differential Equations and in Physics too.Definite Integration: One of the most important chapers with a very heavy contribution of independent and mixed problems. Independent questions are mostly property based. Integration as a limit of sum is another hot topic.Area: One independent question mostly. You need to be very good at graph drawing and then it’s mostly a lengthy yet simple integration.Differential Equations: Again mostly an independent question you need to know how to build differential equations out of the given information and then application of indefinate. One must be comforbatable with all formats of differential equations in syllabus the question is not that direct mostly involving an intermediate conversion to a known format.BOOKSNCERT: Not that great it should be the first thing you solve for practice just after doing the theory to get a hang for the chapter but JEE is way beyond it.(Integration is well covered and I recommend doing it in class 11 for physics)Arihant or Cengage series: I don’t recommend it for doing theory on your own more of an additional practcice resource to be done after coaching material if you feel there is a need for brushing conceptsCoaching Material: Must do resource for relevant JEE level practiceVinay Kumar Series: Most extensive theory resourceSameer Bansal: best practice resource great collection of relevant problems similar to the lengthy and difficult ones JEE advanced asks these daysVikas Gupta: problems are great but less in number for calculus I prefer sameer bansalPrevious Year problems: Must do resource to get a flavour of what JEE asks and problems or concepts asked are repeated so don’t miss outThere are a lot of other books but I feel this is sufficient for extensive coverage of calculusGENERAL TIPSDon’t lag behind as calculus is generally taught continuosly over 6–8 months try to complete all material at the pace of your class so you’ll not face problems and be confident for the coming chaptersPractice till calculus runs in your veins it’s frusturating initially but you’ll enjoy once you get comfartable and start solving questions as soon as you see themmake a seperate copy for important formulus, techniques and important questions ( great for revision) and do mark important questions in the resources you coverGet a good grip on the concepts before solving problems sometimes JEE tricks with the fine points of the theory (2013,2014 limits questions: it’s easy to get negative marks )Don’t leave any concept because questions are generally multi concept based be patient while solving multiple correct type questionsbeing good at graph drawing helps a lotcoachings generally begin with calculus in [math]12^th[/math] it’s better to follow them then and focus on algebra and co-ordinate geometry in class 11 don’t try covering calculus syllabus on the expense of these topics in class [math]11^th,[/math] I recommend doing only integartion, DE and basic differentiation in class 11 for physicsALL THE BEST!!!

Hi Gita,Thank you for considering me to answer this question:Let me demystify things in sequence:There are two ways to get in to research organization like ISRO, DRDO, SAMEER : a. Clear gate with 80 percentile (basic criteria) b. Clear their own Entrance ExaminationLet me be frank, if you attempt their internal exam the probability to clear is less since it is tougher than gate exam. (GATE - GRADUATE APTITUDE TEST FOR ENGINEERS)Hence, the best option is attempt gate.Now talking about steps. If you choose gate or their exam, there are two ways. Any post that has to filled by a person in public sector goes through this process.Sequence :Notification of the vacancy, u can get for all the public sector jobs Notifications online or thru employment newsOnce the notification arrives, they give you time of a month to fill the application form for exam or they ask for gate marks for shortlisting process.Done, ok. Now after wait for a month or two u will receive letter for exam or if you have applied through gate it will be depended on their criteria to whether u r fit for the position and satisfying their criteria.Lets say u r shortlisted. Then u will called for the interview and if they find there are too many people they will keep a filter such as aptitude test to further filter.Fine. Lets presume u cleared that. Then in the next level their will a personal interview round. The number of rounds and their fundas are dependent on organization. Some take only one round, some take 2 or 3.If you clear, you will have to go through police verification to seek noc of no criminal records.After this physical test for confirmation on no health issues or whatever is required as per company's criteria.This done. Then comes issuing offer letters and inducting you guys for work.Pls note this a general process for ISRO there might be some difference in actual. ProsGuaranteed job in the future.Opportunity to work in the healthcare field, in a country that is still lacking in the department. Still a very high prevalence of preventable diseases and not enough trained personnel.There's a certain sense of satisfaction associated with being able to nurse the sick back to good health.The general society respects doctors a lot, especially in India. You'll often be referred to as doctor sahab even during your days as an undergraduate student.Cheaper tuition compared to countries like the US, UK, Australia etc.No need to do a pre-med course (like in the US)Various fields open for postgraduate studies - speciality in a medical field, civil services, management, research options etc.Due to the low doctor:patient ratio in the country, the wards are crowded and the attending doctors very busy. This gives you the opportunity to take patient history, examine patients and to an extent administer some minor forms of treatment too. In other words, good clinical exposure.ConsLong college hours - 8 am to 4 pm and then two hours of evening wards. Expect the same in the future though when working as a doctor.Not necessarily good wages in the future - doctors pay scale in the country is pretty varied depending on abilities, experience and marketing abilities. The other option apart from working in a hospital is private practice where again your income will depend on the same factors.Tough competition for MD/MS seats. The AIPGME, state exams and DNB exams, all are highly competitive. Lots of applicants, very few seats. Add to that the caste based reservation system, and chances of a general category applicant diminish further.Poor infrastructure compared to institutions in developed countries. Poor living conditions on campus, obsolete teaching methodology, outdated techniques and equipment in the hospitals, limited research opportunities as a student, poorly maintained laboratories etc.It's a pretty long undergrad course compared to others. 5 and a half years including internship. High failure rates too so the duration could be longer depending on that.
