PDF Editor FAQ

How do I get over my Michael Jackson grief without forgetting him?

I feel ya. I'm a MJ impersonator and I'm 15. When I listen to his music I feel it like he did. I have a connection with music like he did. When I listen to his music or music like as (Bruno M, Ed S., Maroon 5), it sends me to a place where all my sadness disappears from the charismatic love sound you get from Heal the World to my favorite (his most iconic) Billie Jean, Michael's legacy is key. He left us a thanksgiving grocery list of songs to listen to and would never want his fans to be sad. So think of it like your grief antidote is in his music. I hope I helped. Please follow me and peace out fellow Moonwalker.

What does one learn from being exposed to the wealthy?

I was raised in a lower-middle-class family. At age 19, I was hired by a wealthy family to be a personal assistant for their disabled son. I spent the next six years working for three different wealthy families with disabled children. This is what I learned from them that was different than the way my lower-middle-class family did things. Of course, many of these things are only possible because the wealthy had the means to make them happen in the first place:Patience. The only thing the wealthy families took out loans for was their mortgage. They had credit cards, but just for convenience. They paid them off every month. They bought their cars with cash. Debt, particularly credit card debt, is a trap that should be avoided if possible. For many, a little patience is all that is needed.Domestic Organization. All three of these families ran their households like small businesses. There was a central calendar where everyone’s schedules were coordinated. There was also a central grocery list where people added whatever they needed or just used the last of. There were specific days of the week for all things domestic, and everyone in the house knew which day was for what domestic thing.Let the Professionals Handle It. All three families hired professional landscapers and housekeepers. They also had regular mechanics, caterers, and other people that they used a few times each year. But they always used the same people. They found someone they liked, probably through the recommendation of a friend, and stuck with that person.I was particularly shocked by the catering. I’d never been to a catered event before I worked for these families. They had their holidays catered at their house. They might make one or two things for Thanksgiving dinner, but the rest was delivered and set up by the caterer. I tried it myself years later, and it was nice and not too expensive. The money we spent having a family gathering catered was worth it for the lack of stress we had. They also all had a professional financial advisor who handled their investments. I know a lot of people who buy and sell stock on their own online now. If I had the money to invest, I’d still hire a professional to do it for me.College, Career, Marriage, Children… In That Order. All three of these families had dual-high-income parents, at least when they were first married. Eventually, one of the mothers just quit working. The other two mothers, and one of the fathers, owned their own businesses. But in all three cases, the couples met near the end of their college days, and didn’t get married until they’d established themselves in their professions. Then they waited a few years to have children. This goes along with my first point: patience.Local Community Involvement. These parents were all pillars of the community. They didn’t just know who the mayor was; they were friends with the mayor… and the police chief and fire marshall and head librarian and all of the other leaders of the community. The parents were actively involved with the schools, even if their own children didn’t go there. They attended local plays and shopped at local businesses. These were the types of people who would go to city council meetings to hear proposals about new zoning laws, not because they wanted to build something with the new zone, but because they cared what would go there. Their concern and involvement all things local was in stark contrast to their:Apparent Indifference Towards National and World News. They never watched the news. They didn’t watch much TV at all, actually. They only read the local newspaper. If they had any opinions about national events or politics, they kept them to themselves. This really struck me after the 9/11 attacks. I had to work that evening for one of the families. They never said a single thing about it. They were probably the only Americans not glued to their TV that evening. In the days and weeks that followed, they still never said a thing about it. I’m sure they knew about it, but you’d never guess it based on their reactions. Or rather, complete lack of any sort of reaction. It was like they were in their own tiny bubble that stopped at the edge of town. Anything beyond that might as well have been on another planet.

How do you tell your parents your period started?

During my awkward teen years, I referred to my period as only “it”.Mom, “it” is coming soon so, um, could you stop by the store soon? Hey mom I need chocolate…for…er, “it”. Mom, “it” is here.Mom knew exactly what “it” meant. “It” meant I would be in the bathroom every hour on the hour whenever I wasn’t in bed, crippled from extreme pain. “It” meant there was a good chance she’d have to come get me from school because I was either in too much pain or passing out (from what I later learned was anemia from the massive blood loss) And “it” meant hers would come soon so we better stock up on chocolate.Because I was awkward and in pain, mom didn’t give me a hard time. She knew what “it” was, helped me with what I needed and left it at that.I’m an adult (live at home during college breaks) and I do sometimes use “it” out of habit. Since my periods are better managed (thank heavens for birth control), I’ve been saying it’s “that time of the month”. Mom says either one of the code words as well. Or we’ll just drop subtle hints like putting chocolate on the grocery list or wearing dark clothes.
