What is the best advice you can give to someone who is always struggling financially?
The rules of work have changed. Most likely you’re working for money, meaning you’re selling your time in exchange for money. This is called earned income. To better illustrate this, earned income is like a farmer working with his hands. His production efficiency ratio is 1:1 = ZERO leverageIt’s extremely difficult to achieve financial freedom with earned income.Earned income is the most heavily taxed source of income.Earned income pays taxes BEFORE expenses. Most probably your expenses are not allowing you to invest any money to accumulate wealth. To increase your income, you need to use some kind of leverage. The better the leverage, the more effective your hours of work will be.Back to the farmer example:With the use of a tool (leverage) the farmer above can produce 5X times more ‘value’ during the same hours of work. Now, the farmer is using not only a tool, but also the power of animals (increased leverage) to boost production. This farmer can now produce 500X times more ‘value’ during the same working hours. To answer your question ‘What’s the best advice you can give to someone who is always struggling financially?’This advice is for employees: Stop chasing money and start chasing value.Reevaluate your work and daily actions. Think how you could deliver more ‘value’ through your hours of work. This can be achieved by leveraging some skill, knowledge or tools. When we’re focused on making money, we are focused on ourselves which blinds us to the value we deliver to our customers or our employer.Remember this:We all get paid according to the ‘value’ we deliver, NOT according to the number of hours we work. While we can work the same number of hours, the value delivered by a rocket scientist is dramatically different than a taxi driver’s work.In the labor market, it all comes to scarcity.Millions of people can drive a car. Few have the knowledge and skills of a rocket scientist. Increased delivered value leads to higher income, which should ease your financial struggles.
What are some species that returned to the water after evolving into a terrestrial species?
What are some species that returned to the water after evolving into a terrestrial species? All cetaceans (whales and dolphins), seals, sea lions, and penguins were once terrestrial. As a general rule of thumb, if it lives in water but breathes air, then at some point its ancestors were terrestrial.Probably the most notable example is this little guy:That’s Indohyus, the ancestor of all modern whales. They were about the size of a house cat, but clearly spent a lot of time in water- it had a thick, water-resistant outer coat, and bones very similar to a hippopotamus, which reduce buoyancy.Genetic studies have confirmed that it is the ancestor of all modern whales, and that it is also very closely related to modern hippopotamuses. Fossils of Indohyus were first discovered in Kashmir, and its teeth suggest it was an omnivore.C13 values lead us to believe that its diet was mostly terrestrial. And yet, it is clearly adapted for time spent in water- this, along with certain physiological similarities to modern species with similar lifestyles, lead to the supposition that it lived along riverbanks or in marshes.Indohyus, or something very like it, eventually evolved into Pakicetus, which we regard as the “basal” whale.Pakicetus was much bigger, generally between 1 and 2 metres long, and was fully aquatic. It had also transitioned to a carnivorous lifestyle, feeding on fish and small animals. It’s eyes were placed on the top of it’s head, allowing it to keep most of it’s body underwater while still being able to see- much like modern hippos or crocodiles. Pakicetus fossils were first discovered in Pakistan, and they lived about 49–48 million years ago (ma). After that, they just kept developing more and more aquatic characteristics.Ambulocetus (Ambulocetidae cca 49–48 Ma)Kutchicetus (Remingtonocetidae cca 48 Ma)Remingtonocetus Remingtonocetidae cca 48 Ma)Rodhocetus (Protocetidae cca 45 Ma)Protocetus (Protocetidae cca 45 Ma)Dorudon (Basilosauridae cca 35 Ma)Squalodon (Squalodontidae, Odontoceti cca 25 Ma)Kentriodon (Kentriodontidae. Odontoceti cca 20 Ma)Aulophyseter (Physeteridae, Odontoceti cca 20 Ma)Aetiocetus (Aetiocetidae, Mysticeti cca 27 Ma)Janjucetus (Mammalodontidae, Mysticeti cca 25 Ma)Cetotherium (Cetotheriidae, Mysticeti cca 18 Ma)Brygmophyseter (Physeteridae, Odontoceti cca 15 Ma)
What is the point of 5 or 10 day weather forecasts, as weather changes so rapidly? It's annoying!
The average accuracy of weather forecasts diminishes with forecast “lead time” - that is, a forecast for tomorrow has a 1-day lead time, for the day after tomorrow it has a 2-day lead time, and so on. By the time we reach lead times of more than 7 days, the forecasts have very little skill. By skill, I mean the accuracy of the forecasts relative to a forecast of what is statistically average for that time of the year. The level of forecast skill is not the same from one day to the next, so sometimes a 10-day forecast for a particular weather situation might contain some useful information, but that would not be the case most days. At 5-day lead times, there is likely to be some useful skill but one should not believe the details are going to be precisely accurate. What you as a forecast user must decide is whether or not the long-range weather forecasts you see offer you information that is useful to you, personally. From a scientific viewpoint, forecasts with 5–10 day lead times are not often very accurate but may be of some value for some users, even if they’re not completely accurate.
