A good trainer studies the horse, earns the horse’s trust and realizes when they’re close to the edge of the horse’s frustration level. A good trainer realizes that if you show a horse what you want and take it in small steps, most horses will do everything they can to work with you. A well trained horse and rider are like dancing partners, moving in sync with each other and understanding by body language. It’s a wonderful experience.

They are in different parts of the brain, and work differently.And the opposite is also true. In a study of child prodigies, it was found that most of them had only an average to above average IQ; but that had absurdly large working memories.Which is to say when most people take days or weeks of effort to learn - that is to move information from working memory to long term (i.e. from RAM to hard drive); child prodigies have such a large working memory that they can literally instantly hold everything you show them in their active mind, and just repeat what they had been exposed to - effectively instant recall and instant memorization.If you can effectively memorize things instantly with no effort - then you can do things that High IQ can’t do.Now when it comes to training animals and teaching students - a High IQ can appear to be a bad memory - because if the student is intelligent enough to figure things out raw; they can get by without actually learning or retaining anything. This is especially true when training animals; talk to any horse trainer and they will admit the most difficult challenge is a smart horse, because if they are fast to figure things out, they tend not to need to learn, and every day is like starting over.If you study people with High IQ, especially in Quora and what they write about themselves - it’s easy to be lazy and not work hard if you can get by with little or no effort. So it’s possible very possible to have a high IQ, and have no idea how to work hard, create results, or memorize things- which is a skill that “average” people generally learn as children.Now, considering neuroplasticity - one could argue that Individuals with a High IQ and poor memory may be unusual, or just have not exercised their memory enough.I’m hoping a good neurological scientist that actually works on the studies I’ve read can provide better insight, but I’m hoping that answers the question.

Late Sqn Ldr Devayya was very unassuming a personality but beneath that simple exterior lay a brave pilot and capable flying instructor. He was a Flt Lt in 1962 when we started our training.Though he wasn’t my instructor, soon we realised that those who were getting instructions from him were indeed lucky ones. Devayya not only taught flying professionally , he also instilled confidence to handle that unstable nightmare of an aircraft called HT2 , our basic trainer. In Mahabharat Nakul and Sahadev the twins were expert horse trainers. It was said of them the a horse trained by them will never loose its nerve and panic. I can say confidently Devayya sir was one such instructor.We passed out in 1963. In 1965 war we heard the sad news that the jet Davayya flew was shot down and he was missing. Many of our mates were gone. We went about our jobs , learning from the war we had participated. Years rolled on. Then there was a news about Devayya. He was awarded a Maha Vir Chakra for his exceptional bravery in the war. He chased a Pakistani F104 called Start Fighter , with his slower Mystere damaged by ground fire and managed to shoot it down. But the praise from his skills came from a British Author after 23 years and from study and analysis of the video recovered from Devayya’s crashed jet. IAF was able to piece together the story of the fight unto death and strongly recommended him for the gallantry award.The revelation came, ironically, in a book written on the Pakistan Air Force by British author John Fricker. Commissioned by the PAF to write about its history and operations, Fricker included a brief account about an Indian Mystere shooting down a much superior Pakistani F-104 as the only instance where the Indian Air Force(IAF) could take some credit in the 1965 Indo-Pak War.This last line is from the book by Fricker. Of course IAF has a glorious saga of of its valor displayed during the 1965 war and I do not agree with the statement that this was the only instance where IAF could take some credit in 1965 war. Nothing could be further from the truth.
