In all the years the different schools he had attended, none of them took the time to teach him ASL, not until he started at CSD-R. In 3 years, he is 85% fluent in ASL, he is a straight-A student. He will turn 18 in 2020. I am his dad. What many people do not know, an adult can adopt an adult without all the hassle of welfare getting involved. I will adopt him as my own son next year.I am on Social Security, and he is on SSI. When I adopt him, his SSI will come off me instead. I am not doing it for the money, get that out of your head. He has no plans to leave me as he wants to take care of his Papa, as I have taken care of him.Did you ask about discipline? The last time I had to discipline him was when he was 6 years old. He is a good kid. Yeah, his ASD does cause some frustrations, yet I know it is part of the condition. I have a MAED in Special Education, especially with ASD. I have had to raise my voice a few times, only when needed. He does have a minimal hearing in one ear, nothing in the other. As I said, he’s a good kid and I couldn’t ask for a better young man to be my son.
