PDF Editor FAQ

How do you define a "city"?

In India traditionally, If a population centre had any one or more than one features, it was considered a city-1. Temples2. Military bases/forts3. Trading outposts/ports4. Manufacturing centres5. Other Vanity projectsThese days however, it is the job of the non paritsan and non political Office of the Registrar General and Census Commisioner which sorts population centres into rural or urban (Which basically is a city). Since the census of 1971, they define urban areas as-(a) all places with a Municipality, Corporation or Cantonment or Notified Town Area(b) all other places which satisfied the following criteria:(i) a minimum population of 5,000.(ii) at least 75% of the male working population was non-agricultural.(iii) a density of population of at least 400 sq. Km. (i.e. 1000 per sq. Mile)The Director of Census of each State/Union Territory is, however, given some discretion in respect of some marginal cases, in consultation with the State Govt., to include some places that had other distinct urban characteristics and to exclude undeserving cases.

How should I vote in the 2018 Florida midterm elections?

This is for you Maria ;) I don't want to bore you to death so I'll refrain from droning on too much and keep it as concise as possible. The Ballotpedia links will take you to a general page with literally all the info for each amendment, who supports it and why, and who opposes it and why, etc. Its by far the most informative, condensed, one stop source I've come across for this.Keep in mind, some of these amendments are already accepted state and federal law. These votes will add these proposed amendments to the state constitution.Amendment 1: Vote No. It's an additional exemption on property taxes. It'll basically save homeowners with houses valued above $100K a couple hundred dollars a year on property taxes, but the problem is it will take a massive chunk out of all local governments' budgets. For example, Lee county is estimated to lose just under twelve million dollars from their budget. Money that goes to things like public safety or public renovations (like that park in PC). Florida Amendment 1, Homestead Exemption Increase Amendment (2018) - BallotpediaAmendment 2: Vote Yes. This is another tax thing, except it makes a temporary tax cap (set to expire in 2019) on non-homestead property (such as businesses or rentals) permanent. Losing this exemption will jack their taxes up, which they might in turn pass on to us in the form of higher rent and prices. Florida Amendment 2, Permanent Cap on Nonhomestead Parcel Assessment Increases Amendment (2018) - BallotpediaAmendment 3: Vote your heart. Personally, I'm leaning towards No. This amendment basically gives voters the exclusive right to approve future casinos in Florida (excluding Seminole territory, they do their own thing). Sounds great on the surface, but that would mean for anyone to open a casino anywhere in Florida, they'd have to invest to get the signatures first, just to get the vote on the ballot, then need to convince 60% of the state of Florida why they want that Casino. 60% of Florida might be against gambling entirely one day, which would mean the only casinos around in Florida will belong to the Seminole tribe. Florida Amendment 3, Voter Approval of Casino Gambling Initiative (2018) - BallotpediaAmendment 4: Vote Yes! This amendment gives non violent, non sex offender, ex felons the right to vote. We're one of very few states in the country that takes the right to vote away permanently after felony arrest, and to get those rights back currently, you have to jump through some insane hoops, cough up a large chunk of cash, and quite possibly be denied on no more than the whim of the Govenor (Republican Rick Scott), which has happened. After that, congrats, you get to start back at Go. Sounds crazy as shit, but it's unfortunately, and sadly, true. Florida Amendment 4, Voting Rights Restoration for Felons Initiative (2018) - BallotpediaAmendment 5: Vote No. This amendment is trying to make it harder to raise taxes in the future by requiring a two thirds vote, rather than just a simple majority. Look, taxes suck, and nobody enjoys paying them. But the simple fact is that's how the government, from the city all the way to the feds, can provide help and other services to everyone. And the government of yesterday might not know what the government of tomorrow might need. Florida Amendment 5, Two-Thirds Vote of Legislature to Increase Taxes or Fees Amendment (2018) - BallotpediaThe rest of these amendments are mash ups, ultimately given to us, again, by Rick Scott. His appointee claims that it's to help us to be able to read them. :| Its all or nothing with these, a cheap tactic to tack unpopular shit onto things people want.Amendment 6: Vote No. Im going to be hated for this one, because the first part is called Marsys Law, essentially a bill of rights for victims. A lot of these rights are already law and currently enforced, so it's not much of an addition as it's being added to the stage constitution. One thing that did bother me a little, is that the end of that law states that the rights of the victim can infringe upon the right of the accused. Accused. If it said Convicted, then yes, I'm all for it, but accused is another thing entirely. It doesn't necessarily need to be added into the constitution. The tack-ons here are an increase for the mandatory retirement age for judges from 70 to 75, and that judges can no longer defer to a state agency’s interpretation of law when making a ruling. Don't know much about the latter, but increasing the retirement age is a bad idea IMO and that of many others. 70 is old enough. Florida Amendment 6, Marsy's Law Crime Victims Rights, Judicial Retirement Age, and Judicial Interpretation of Laws and Rules Amendment (2018) - BallotpediaAmendment 7: Vote No. This amendment provides death benefits to surviving spouses of first responders, including EMTs, and also surviving spouses of U.S. armed forces. It proposes requiring a 70% vote for college board officials to raise college fees, as opposed to the current simple majority. And finally, places the state college system in the constitution. First, the federal government pays those benefits already to US forces and their are also benefits in place for first responders. The killer here is raising the voting threshold for colleges to raise fees. Again, the government of today shouldn't be dictating the colleges of tomorrow. Florida Amendment 7, First Responder and Military Member Survivor Benefits, Supermajority Board Votes for College Fees, and State College System Amendment (2018) - BallotpediaAmendment 8: This amendment was stricken from the ballot. Something to do with Charter schools.Amendment 9: Vote Yes. This amendment bans offshore drilling beneath all state waters, and lumps in a ban on vaping in an enclosed, indoor work place. Indoor vaping is damn near banned entirely indoors by choice at this point, and are a short step from becoming treated no different than a cigarette, I'm all for this one to ban offshore drilling. Sorry Louis. Florida Amendment 9, Ban Offshore Oil and Gas Drilling and Ban Vaping in Enclosed Indoor Workplaces Amendment (2018) - BallotpediaAmendment 10: Vote No. This amendment is another mess. It does: 1. Require, as opposed to authorize the Veterans admin, 2. Create a state counter terrorism force, 3. require the state legislature to convene earlier on even numbered years, and 4. Prohibiting the dissolution and requiring elections for sheriff, tax collector, property appraiser, supervisor of elections, and clerk of circuit court. The league of women voters, among a handful of other orginaztions, scroll down to the opposition for the list of reasons why. Florida Amendment 10, State and Local Government Structure Amendment (2018) - BallotpediaAmendment 11: Vote Yes. This amendment will do three things. 1. It will delete a provision that forbids non-citizens from owning land, Which i agree with. 2. Will delete some leftover paragraphs regarding the high speed rail system, which Florida voters have already voted down. 3. Will delete the provision requiring prosecutors to prosecute a case with the given law at the time the crime was committed. Regarding the third, the way it currently stands, if I commit a crime in 1990, and the law requires a 50 year minimum sentence, if the law later changes to a 10 year minimum sentence, i will still have to stay for for the full 50 year sentence. This amendment will require the courts to abide by the statute and law of today, rather than when the crime was committed.Florida Amendment 11, Repeal Prohibition on Aliens’ Property Ownership, Delete Obsolete Provision on High-Speed Rail, and Repeal of Criminal Statutes' Effect on Prosecution Amendment (2018) - BallotpediaAmendment 12: Vote Your Heart. I'm all for this one, though some say it's a bit excessive. Increases the length of time that a government official is banned from lobbying. The current ban is two years, this amendment will make it six. Florida Amendment 12, Lobbying Restrictions Amendment (2018) - Ballotpedia.Amendment 13: Vote your heart. This one bans dog racing. My understanding is that Florida is actually required to keep a handful of tracks open. Dog racing is on the decline currently anyway. I'll give this one to dad. Florida Amendment 13, Ban on Wagering on Dog Races Amendment (2018) - BallotpediaTime for candidates.US Senate: Bill Nelson. His opponent is two- term (8 years), Republican governor of Florida Rick Scott, a multi millionaire that has steadily increased his net worth throughout his entire tenure as governor, and is mostly funding his own campaign. He's also the one that's defunded local environmental watchdogs and let the sugar industry run amok. Did he cause our current blue-green AND red algae bloom? Yes, he definitely played a part. Everyone seems to agree.-Rick Scott tries to change record on Florida’s algae crisis | Randy Schultz, -Red tide and green water? Florida beaches have a problem, and its name is Rick Scott, -Rick Scott on algae blooms, SunPass and his blind trust, -Commentary: Florida's great green algae disaster — we asked for it ... us and Rick Scott, -Gov. Scott’s Policies Are Contributing to Florida’s Toxic Algal Bloom - Center for American Progress, like I said, everyone agrees.US House: Nancy Soderberg. Her opponent is Mike Waltz. He's a Trump yes-man, he'll only facilitate the Republican agenda.Govebor: Andrew Gillum. His opponent is Ron Desantis. Ole rubber stamp Ron, another Trump yesman, except he's apparently been moderating some racist Facebook groups. Eight Times Ron DeSantis "Accidentally" Did Racist StuffAttorney General: Sean Shaw. His opponent is Ahsley Moody. Though I agree with some of what Moody has said, she's all for repealing the rest of the affordable care act (which is the pre existing condition protection), and is a proponent for private prisons, aka: For Profit prisons. Theyre a whole disgusting can of worms on theyre own, and need to go.State House: Patrick HenryAgriculture Commisioner: Nikki FriedAnd you'll have different school board members than I do.Finally, you'll be asked whether or not to keep two judges on the bench. One is a young guy with almost no courtroom experience (he had to change the length of time spent in courtroom from years, to months, on his application form), the other is an old Conservative Republican. I say Vote No to both. One bought his way in, the other is an old school Republican. Give them both the boot so we can replace them with progressive judges.I hate to sound like some sort of propaganist, and I've genuinely wondered at times if I've been brainwashed into thinking that Republicans are just plain evil. I just don't know why people would support them, other than they must fall for the bullshit these people peddle, and ignore what these people end up actually doing. But personally, I like and want to protect the environment and keep the Earth from going to hell. I believe the science that says global warming is being caused by humanity and that the aforementioned hell is approaching. I think we should help people in need rather than tell them they deserve what they get. I think we need Social Security, Medicaid, and Medicare (which is what just paid for my stepson's ear surgeries, without which, he'd still be deaf). And I believe that sometimes the government needs to be able to step in and tell some mega corporation to cut the shit and play fair, you know, to not kill people just to make a buck.Democrats are by no means a silver bullet, and I'm more than sure they've all done some swanky shit themselves. But in this current environment, Moderate Republicans are either forced to bow to Trump and “get with the program”, or find their former seat filled by someone who will. And Trump is really nothing more than a persuasive mouthpiece for the hardcore republicans that haven't been able to sell their bullshit brand of government for decades. But now they have someone that, for some inexplicable reason, can get through to people that will hang on his every word, and believe with all their hearts that the reality he's spinning actually exists. On a sidenote: I'd recommend watching John Oliver's Last Week Tonight on YouTube, it's informative and gives you a better gist than I regarding what these folks stand for. Also, Adam Ruins Everything rocks too. Informational comedy, get some.
