You have a lot of concern about this, apparently:Here’s the key thing you’re missing: “Chicago” doesn’t decide. Neither does “Seattle”. The voters of the state do. And in fact, the population of Cook County (~5M) is less than half the population of Illinois (~12M). King County is less than one third of the population of Washington.This sort of sentiment always seems to be a concern that “urban” (and you can decide what that’s a euphemism for) voters have “too much” say in what goes on. They get one vote each, just like everyone else.

Washington once was the best state to live in.Parts of Washington state may still be. Central and Eastern Washington cities are beautiful and are blessed with small populations.Technology has invaded King county where I live. Seattle, Bellevue, Kirkland , and Redmond where I live are homes for Amazon,Google, Boeing, and Microsoft. Starbucks is headquartered here. Other tech companies are here as well.Traffic is gridlocked. Driving 29 miles to the Seattle WA can take over an hour.Rents and housing costs continue to rise. An apartment in Seattle can cost $1,800-$3,400 a month. I pay $2,800 a month to lease a 1,600 square foot townhouse in a 55+ community in Redmond.The mountains and Lake Washington make our area a beautiful place to live.Weather usually is cloudy and drizzly. Rain is our constant friend. Snow has slapped all of us more than normal this year. It feels that way to us.A friend moved to Richmond , Virginia. Richmond is like Redmond without the traffic, I’m told.The Seattle Seahawks are sold out yearly. Parking costs $50 to park next to the stadium . Homeless camps are nearby. Homeless tents can be seen everywhere .The Seattle Mariners are the Chicago Cubs on the West Coast. The baseball team has been here 40 years and has yet to appear in the World Series.King County has much to brag about. Our constantly rising population makes living here increasingly difficult.I’d move in a second if my health would allow me.

I’ve survived it so far. I’m living (and coughing) in the epicenter of the US epidemic. The first US fatality was in King County in Washington State. Just a few minutes ago, the news reported the 10th corona virus death in the state.[1] Nine of the deaths were in King County - my county.Just last night, a good friend called me in a bit of a panic. An Amazon employee across the street from where he works tested positive for COVID-19.This morning I read about a quarantine facility that is being set up in White Center (just south of Seattle). I know someone who lives about 200 yards from the location. Capacity is 40 people and there’s no water or sewer connection.[2] Nice.The county will need at least 20 more facilities by the end of the month. Plus HoneyBuckets.It’s spiraling out of control. Obviously.As I was saying, I’m coughing. It may be just a seasonal cold, but it feels different from any cold I’ve ever had. It’s a dry infrequent cough. No runny nose. Slightly sore throat. Tired and a bit sore all over. No fever - so far. I’m suspicious…I’m of the opinion that this pandemic is unstoppable - but mostly harmless for most people. I’m not quite old enough to be in the 3% fatal age group and I’m healthier than average. If this becomes something serious for me, there are good hospitals not far from here that are still functioning. Another couple of weeks and they’ll be disaster areas. If I am infected with coronavirus, I figure that it’s better to catch it now and get it over with than to catch it a month from now when hospitalization is out of the question.I normally power-through colds, but I’m taking this seriously. O don’t feel all that bad though. Staying at home and taking it easy. Vitamin C and OJ for me.I’ll amend this periodically.
