Which also means that the accusation are almost never actionable.But we can certainly see where the greatest likelihood lies.First, we can see if the story is internally consistent. Then if it’s externally consistent. Then how it comports with the opposing parties’ reputations and known behavior. Lastly what might be the motivations of the opposing parties.Reade’s story has changed over time, as have the stories of people who say she told her story to them at or near the time she alleges. Her story is externally consistent, all right, but with a scene from a novel her father wrote. That’s not the kind of external consistency that makes a story more plausible. It’s also externally consistent with her other accusations of sexual assault—the one against Biden is her sixth. Either she’s really unlucky, or maybe she has such animal magnetism that people are overcome and assault her.One external problem with her accusation is that it was customary for women in the early 90s to wear pantyhose in office settings. And pantyhose would made the abrupt assault she describes physically impossible.Another external problem is that not one other person who worked in that office at that time said they’d heard anything about the alleged assault; moreover, all of them say that Biden’s office was one of the ones that was safe for women to work in for congressmen. Nor does there appear to be any record of the complaint she says she filed. Nor has Biden been credibly accused of sexual harassment—much less assault—by anyone else, ever.There were a bunch of complaints about him being prone to touching people—male and female—in an old-fashioned “handsy” way—like George W. Bush’s unwanted backrub of German leader Angela Merkel.
