Can any foreign woman married to an Indian guy living in Mumbai help me?

I'm an Indian with a non Indian spouse, I can provide some answers to your questions. You can get married in any religious instituition. The rules will differ from place to place. You can also get married at a Registrar’s office but I suspect that could take time. Once you've applied for the permit to get married to the local registrar, they will put up a notice in their premises or in a print media and wait for a period of 30 days announcing your application and during this time anyone who may have have an objection to your union can give their reasons. This is usually done to make sure there are no existing marriages in both applicants’ name. It's only getting computerized now so there are no historic data available. Some towns may request you to bring a no objection certificate from your embassy or similar government office to ensure you're not married back home. You can apply for this permit in the Indian Embassy where you both live, and they'll put up this advertisement/notice.If you choose to get married at a church or temple, after marriage, you still have to approach the local government office called the ‘Panchayat’, with marriage certificate issued by the church and register again. Then the panchayat will issue you a marriage certificate from the government in about 2 week’s time. It's important to say, Indian government, for legal matters, will only recognise this certificate.Once you're married and back in your own country, visit the nearest Indian Embassy with your spouse & marriage certificate issued from the government and apply for an Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) card. Being married to an Indian entitles you to all the rights as a Non Resident Indian, which includes visa free entry for life, visa free stay for as long as you want in India, without any need to register at FRRO or report to local police station, own properties (except agricultural land) etc. Just have a valid passport from your own country with you when you travel.I'm not exactly sure of requirements followed by a religious institution. I got married in a church in India. They asked for a no objection certificate from our local church in the country we are living in, who required us to register first and attend few marriage preparation classes etc (though my wife and I are not religious, we did it for our families). The local church in our country of residence asked for a certificate from my wife from her country to prove she's single & a letter from my church back home stating they've no record of me being married already!! So I believe the requirements are similar in church & government. These are all I can think of and did. Feel free to ask any question if you wish to know more.
