It is probably possible.They have done an experiment with red foxes in Russia, using the silver coated morph.For approximately 80 years they have been breeding the more docile ones. Keeping them caged & with little human contact. So they pretty much started out with just breeding the ones that didn't try to attack through the cage. Little human contact to see if they would naturally get tamer on their own.They now have foxes that whine, wag their tails, lick fingers, lick faces, snuggle, etc. They also don't look they same. The tails curled. The ears dropped. The snouts & face changed. The coats changed. Would they come out looking like giant house cats. Imagine a giant tortoise shell, calico, tabby, etc. Who knows you might end up with black lions. There are lions with black manes, so the do carry the possibility of black fur.I think a tortoise shell lion would be gorgeous but, alas, I'm to old to become a biologist & would not live the years it would take.Also not sure if I'm ethically OK with screwing with lions myself. What if I inadvertently made them more susceptible to a disease and they all died. What if the disease moved into the normal remaining lions & I killed them too. Allegedly they are domesticated—that is, genetically changed, in this case to be more easily tamed. You can buy similar foxes in the U.S. for about $600, but they aren’t the result of numerous generations of scientifically bred foxes, in an attempt to compress thousands of years of domestications into less than a hundred years.My question is, are there any third-party scientific studies of these dog-like foxes? The company today seems to have lost government funding and drastically reduced the number of foxes, focusing on them as sales items.
