What are the life lessons one can learn from the Indian Prime Minister Narendra Damodardas Modi?

Copied from facebook post but worth to read to know about how hardworking and focused is our PMThis picture taken after the historical win of Narendra Modi became the poster in the Indian Political History. Probably there is no person who hasn’t seen this picture. Apart from Modi and his Mother we also see a lady standing with a plate. Yes, she is Nikunjben, niece of Narendra Modi and daughter of Prahalad Modi, younger brother of our Prime Minister. In a very unfortunate incident, Nikunjben passed away last week following a prolonged heart problem. The news of her illness reached Modi when he was in G-20 Summit in China. After his return to India he immediately called his brother to enquire about her health, only to hear that she had passed away. His tight schedule did not even permit him to go to her funeral ceremony, but he enquired and spoke to his brother again after the funeral for his niece. Many people in the government did not know about this incident. But during the Kashmir meeting, many observed that Narendra Modi’s eyes were wet, when asked they found out that his niece had passed away.Nikunj and her family were not financially strong, they lived in a small rented house and her husband worked in a private company. In order to support her husband Nikunj did tailoring and took tuitions to school children.Inspite of being the niece of Prime Minister himself, not once had she used her position to get favors from any government authority. She had not even told anyone that she was related to Narendra Modi.In a time where we mostly hear people misusing their position to make money, the way Narendra Modi’s family has kept their identity so low is something we need to appreciate. Even after hearing such sad news, Modi did not take one day holiday to visit her but instead attended back to back summits trying his best to get work done. There seem no words to describe the commitment, hard work and dedication of Modi towards our country. We only can wholeheartedly pray God to give him more strength and energy and take India to great heights.

My parents kicked me out of the house when I was 15. Now they are losing their house and asking me if they can live with me. What should I do?

Let me tell you my story. Even though I was older than 15, you might still find it relevant.I graduated from college, Magna Cum Laude, with a double major in marketing and advertising in June of 1974 (I was 20 and not considered a legal adult in my state in those days). I was a serious student who did not do drugs, protest the war nor attempt to challenge the system in any way.I was working part time and living at my parents’ house for the remainder of the summer with their permission as I immediately began looking for a suitable place to live and actively searched for a roommate to share the rent. My birthday was in September (a little less than three months away) at which time I would be a legal adult and could enter into a lease agreement. My search was briefly interrupted by a 10 day vacation I had scheduled prior to the end of school for that summer. Near the end of the vacation, I called my dad (with whom I worked ) to let him know that I would be a day late coming back. I returned to a very angry parent who called me irresponsible for returning one day late from my trip and gave me 30 days to find a new place to live. That cut nearly two months off my search, preparation, packing and moving time. Fortunately, as luck would have it, I was able to find a person to share the rent and vacated the premises in three weeks.Fast forward 10 years later. My dad walked out on my mom and started living with his girlfriend (he never actually divorced my mom). After a few years together, his girlfriend started an affair with another guy and kicked my dad out. He came to me, heartbroken and teary-eyed, and told me what she did.My wife and I told him he could live with us until he could find a suitable place of his own. He stayed with us for 8 months and made little to no effort to find suitable housing. He never offered to pay rent, help with bills or buy any groceries. He finally left when he found a new girlfriend and moved into her apartment. They later bought a condo and lived there as a couple (he never actually divorced my mom during this time). When my mom passed away, they married. He died two years later from cancer. When he passed (about ten years ago) he stipulated in his will that all of his possessions (nearly 1 million dollars in stocks and cash plus a firearms collection worth a conservative 1.5 to 2 million dollars) were to go to his new wife “…to do with them as she wishes..”. His four children, including me, got nothing. The way, we as his sons, were treated when he died spoke volumes about his behaviors and morals. It’s not the fact that he left us nothing (honestly, knowing how tight my father was with his money we didn’t expect anything). It’s the fact that he thought so little about us as to leave us nothing that was devastating.I don’t regret my decision. I feel, regardless of how I was treated, I did what was right taking him in at that low point of his life; however, my readers might want to take a lesson from my experience.

Renting vs. buying a home in the U.S.? What are some supporting stats for either argument?

I’d rented all my life until my husband and I decided to settle down and buy a house. The advantage of renting is that the landlord has to deal with the taxes, insurance, repairs, etc. — but he’ll charge a higher rent to cover them. Also, if you’re hit by hard times and can’t pay rent, out you go — with nothing to show for it.If you buy a house it’s a much harder process, with much more money required up front, and heaven help you if you have to carry a big mortgage. My husband and I were lucky enough to find a HUD-repossessed house that we could buy cheaply, all in one payment, though we had to spend nearly as much again getting the place repaired.Ah, but the advantages are, we own it *free and clear*. All we have to worry about are the annual real-estate taxes (which are very low out here in a rural neighborhood) and home-insurance premiums (likewise). We also have a good-sized plot of land with the house, which we can plant with just about anything we wish, such as fruit-trees and a vegetable garden, which will keep us from starving in a crisis. We can alter the house to suit ourselves (we’re currently turning a former back porch into a back room and a kennel) and keep as many pets as we like (so long as they’re not a nuisance to the neighbors). We can’t be evicted, so long as we pay those low taxes — and even if we fall behind on them, we can work out a payment-schedule that would keep us here for years more. It’s more work but far more security to own a house and land than to pay rent.
