He did not want to serve in the Vietnam war because, like millions of other Americans, he thought the war could not be won militarily and was not a “just war,” a term he probably encountered as a Georgetown student.True, he did try to avoid being inducted, but everything he did was legal; “draft dodging” implies using illegal means to avoid serving.
