How do I create/manufacture my own wristwatch?

Glad to see many ideas of designing here.First, you need to work out an unconvetional design from your potential competitors, when we are ready to build Welly Merck, we tried a lot of designs and made some innovation, like the watch strap can be changed without a tool, adopt the 4 o’clock crown position design, horological back case experience, and we also use the best materials such as Sapphire crystal glass, Swiss movement, all durable stainess steel case, the good design is the first step of anything to create a wristwatch brand. And secondly, how to find a responsible manufacturer for your design, you should know exactly what are you looking for, you should determine what type of supplier you're looking for, this will help determine the terminology you need to use in your research.A classic question when looking for suppliers if you plan to manufacture is whether you want to source domestically or from overseas. You likely already know that it’s almost always cheaper to source your products overseas but there's a lot more to that decision than just the upfront investment and cost per unit. Both domestic and overseas sourcing have their advantages as well as disadvantages which we will take a look at below:Domestic SourcingAdvantagesHigher manufacturing quality and labor standardsEasier communication with no language barrierMarketing appeal of being made in North AmericaEasier to verify reputable manufacturersFaster shipping timeHigh intellectual property right protectionGreater payment security and recourseDisadvantagesHigher manufacturing costsLess product choice (There are many items that just aren’t made in North America anymore)Overseas SourcingAdvantagesLower manufacturing costsHigh number of manufacturers to choose fromOne-stop services like Alibaba have made it easy to navigate suppliersDisadvantagesLower perceived quality from customers(Usually) lower manufacturing and labor standardsLittle intellectual property protectionLanguage and communication barrier can be difficult to navigateDifficulty/costly to verify manufacturer and visit on-siteLonger shipping timeCultural differences in business practicesProduct importation and customs clearanceLess payment security and recourseThere are a few places in particular that can help with your search.DirectoriesSome of the best sources can be free online supplier directories. These directories can contain profiles for hundreds or thousands of manufacturers, wholesalers and suppliers. Below, I have listed out a few of the most popular ones below for both domestic and overseas suppliers:Online Domestic DirectoriesThomasNetMakers RowMFGKompassOnline Overseas DirectoriesOberloAlibabaAliExpressIndiaMartBambifyReferralsSome of the best leads can come from referrals by friends and family. Social networks have made it much easier to get the word out so make sure to use these channels. As you do start to uncover suppliers, even if they aren't the right fit for you, be sure to ask them if they can point you in the right direction. Being in the industry means they will likely have great contacts and many would be more than happy to refer you to someone that might be a better fit.Requesting A QuoteOnce you've found a suitable supplier, how do you approach them? The biggest question you’re going to have is “how much?” but before you hastily send the supplier your request for quotation (many times referred to as a RFQ), take a few minutes to plan out what you want to say and the questions you need to ask. Planning your email will increase your chances that you will receive a response and the correct information. Here are a few important questions to consider for your email:What is your minimum order quantity? - Also referred to as a MOQ, you want to make sure their minimums are manageable for you and that you can afford them. This minimum order quantity can vary wildly depending on the product and the supplier so it's important to ask upfront. What is your sample pricing? - You'll likely want samples to inspect before making a full order. Sample pricing ranges, depending on the product and supplier. Some suppliers that receive many requests may change the full retail pricing, others will offer you samples at a discounted rate, and some may even send you samples for free. What is your production pricing? - One of the most important questions is how much your products will cost. You’ll probably wan't to ask for pricing for several quantities to get a sense of if and how they do discounted pricing at higher quantity levels. What is your turnaround time? - Knowing how long it will take to produce your order is an important consideration and depending your exact business, time can be critical. What are your payment terms? - Many suppliers will require new businesses to pay for the full order upfront. This is important to know since inventory is a major cost for ecommerce startups. You may want to also ask if they provide payment terms on future orders. Finally, if you're contacting a supplier from overseas, keep in mind that in many cases, they may be using translating programs to translate your email as well as their reply. Keeping your emails short, concise, well formatted and spelling error free will not only help the manufacturer but it will ultimately provide you with better replies and answers. Also, when asking your questions, it's best to number your questions, so that they can easily reply to each number, keeping the questions and communication clean and organized. Here is an example of an email I might send out:Hi,This is David from Welly Merck which headquarter is at Switzerland.I am interested in placing an order for watches. I just have a few questions beforehand:1. What is you minimum order quantity?2. What is your cost per unit at the minimum order as well as if I were to order 3x your minimum order?3. What are your payment terms for new customers?I would also like to order a sample of watch to verify quality. Can you please send me the cost for the sample, including shipping to:Your contact informationBest regards,DavidAs you can see from the sample above, it's short, concise and it's goal is to make sure at a high level that there is a fit between us. I have also set myself up to immediately order a sample unit, should there be a good fit between us. Once I have received the samples and I'm happy with them, I can then start getting into more detail knowing I'm not wasting their time, or mine.Sourcing suppliers and manufacturers is a unique process, and for many, a new experience. Trying to locate suppliers that are a good fit is a critical decision for your new business and aren't always easy to find. It's easy to get frustrated when you hit dead ends or brick walls but in most cases, it just requires a little more patience and perseverance to find the perfect partner for your new business. After those work done, you also need to do some promotion work such as Social media posts and product reviews for your brand, it’s as important as the previous steps.

How do I buy products in bulk from Alibaba.com (not aliexpress.com)? Do they deliver products at doorstep?

Hi!,This is a two part question. Regarding the first: “How do I buy product in bulk from Alibaba.com?”. The tools to find suppliers are fairly well known and easy to access (seach bar, applying filters, posting a buying request). I reckon though, you refer to the “mechanics and good practices to find reliable suppliers on Alibaba”. This where the value resides anyways.First, note that you will have to go beyond the tools that Alibaba offers in order to verify a good supplier and business partner overseas. Therefore be ready to spend a bit of time researching and asking the right questions, all of which I tried to compile below.Make sure it is a Gold Supplier: The Gold Membership is a good parameter to know whether a business legally exists or not. When the supplier-exporter applies for a Gold Membership, they first have to pay an annual fee of approximate USD 1700 . After that, they have to run through a verification process performed by a third party, a company called Symantec. The verification agent checks the incorporation papers of the business and also that the phone number corresponds to the business and legal owner. Now, the Gold Memebership. gives you at least two pieces of valuable info: 1) The commitment through a substancial investment in the platform, 2) The legality or good standing of the business. But this does not mean the supplier’s products are verified or checked whatsoever. Nor speaks about the quality of the services or good business practices. That is why you have to keep on digging….Ask for commercial references: Once you are in touch with a sales representative ask them for 4 full commercial references, this is contact info of 4 current clients of theirs overseas. By “full” I mean: a) Company name, b) Name of contact, c) wesite, d) e-mail, e) phone number. Why four? because the odds are 2 of them willl be very hard to reach or get ahold of. Make clear to your potential suppliers that you will not settle for half-assed commercial references that demands hours of extra research online for you. If they refuse to give you this info due to “company policies”, it is a major red light, and my suggestion is that you move forward to the next supplier. They probably have other things to hide.Ask for a few copies former Bill of Lading: Now, usually the suppliers that are eager to offer commercial references will be happy to offer you back up info such as copies of export documents such as former BL’s or former phytos. This will help you check if they, in fact, operate in the international arena or not. Same rule as the point above: if they refuse, move on to another candidate.Request quality certifications: This is a srong point in terms of verification of the supplier. Quality certifications such as HACCP, GMP, BMP, ISO, issued by companies like Bureau Veritas, for instance, means it is a settled company with a good capital at stake, at least in most cases. This does not hold true for all sectors or companies. Many newer ventures do not yet have quality certifications but do things the right way, and are eager to proof so.Ask for samples: whenever you have chosen a minimum of 3 potential suppliers, proceed to ask for samples. Do this always. The sample is the most tangible first encounter with your potential supplier. It speaks about the readiness of the exporter if the sample is delivered in a fast, and well presented fashion. The opposite holds true for unprepared suppliers. Do not expect the samples to be free. The courier services such as DHL, TNT, UPS, or Fedex are everything but cheap. Be ready to spend a small budget in postal services.Digital footprint: you can use a few platforms suchs as Panjiva, ImportGenius, Tradesparq, or 52wmb to track if the supplier registers exports. Again, this is not fundamental as many countrie’s customs do not share this info, but it is a great way to find about the real activity of your potential vendor. My suggestion is that you let them know in advance that these are your prerequisites in order to make a well informed, serious decision. Set the expectations right off the bat.Regarding the second question: “Do they deliver products at doorstep?”. If it is a small volume cargo, that will allow you to add a markup that can bear the cost of the courier and still resell it, then you can used the referred DHL, UPS, TNT, etc, and get the cargo delivered from the supplier’s location your home (the Incoterm that apply is DDU).Otherwise, you will likely have to ask your supplier for a CIF quotation (this is, the cost of the product delivered to your nearest sea port, or airport). Furthermore, you willl have to find a Freight Forwarder to manage the cleareance and importation process and pick up at the port or airport and final delivery to your location. Finally, remember to start slow, or “small" rather. If the nature of the cargo allows it, start with a single pallet. It will cost you more, but it is a chance to test the supply the supplier…the last thing you want to have is a container loaded with problems.Limit downside to ensure upside.I hope this info helps :)Regards,Diego Rafael Garcia

How can I buy products from Alibaba in India? Help me?

8 Steps for buying Products from Alibaba to sell in India :Table of ContentsHow to buy products from Alibaba in India?8 steps for buying Products from Alibaba to sell in India are as followsBe Prepared with the Important DocumentsGetting Familiar with Alibaba’s E-commerce storeHow do we find a genuine supplier?Few steps to consider are as follows:Some Other useful Criteria’s to consider are:How to ensure the quality of the product?Always ask for a Free product sampleWhich shipping company should you choose?Which method of payment should you choose? How to buy products from Alibaba in India?(Alibaba wholesale India) This is general doubt people tend to have before buying the product from Alibaba before we jump to the answer lets see what is Alibaba about.Alibaba was founded on 4 April 1999, they provide E-commerce and retail service platforms for both B2B (Business to Business) and B2C (Business to Customers) The service includes Buying Products directly from the Factories / Industries in China at very minimal prices. Alibaba ecommerce website is used worldwide and Alibaba wholesale India is used in India. We can say that there is no such product which isn’t available on Alibaba. People from all over the world buy products through Alibaba and many have been able to achieve greater profits due to very low price on products. Buying from Alibaba is very simple if you know the steps to follow before buying products.8 steps for buying Products from Alibaba to sell in India are as followsBe Prepared with the Important DocumentsImport Export Code (IEC): Technically, this is the only document you need if you want to import anything from China. You can apply for IEC on Directorate General of Foreign Trade or you can let delivery service handle it all.PAN card details or Aadhar card details.Goods and Services tax identification number (GSTIN) if opted.Getting Familiar with Alibaba’s E-commerce storeFirst, you need to search for the product, its recommended to use short tail keyword rather than long-tail keyword as by doing so many products will be shown with lower price along with many suppliers to choose from. For Example let’s say we are looking for “Black Medium size crop top” simply search for “Black Crop top” as you will have many options to choose from with lower price rather than searching for “Black Medium size crop top” as it may show you fewer results thus leading to less number of suppliers and higher price quotes. How do we find a genuine supplier?More than 80% of the suppliers on Alibaba are genuine so the chances of being cheated is very minimal. However, you should never take this lightly and always deal with precaution as you will be dealing with unknown buyers.Few steps to consider are as follows:Trade insurance: Trade insurance is Alibaba’s free service that protects your orders from payment to delivery. It provides 100% buying security, but only from the providers that are assured of trade. Always select buyers who have trade insurance to ensure that your item is delivered on time as per your provider or manufacturer’s agreement. It guarantees the quality of your product as per the contract with your supplier or manufacturer. Almost all of the suppliers on Alibaba are under the Trade Assurance suppliers. So, you need to consider some additional pointers before you select your manufacturer/supplier.Gold Supplier: A gold supplier does not necessarily imply the provider is real, but it is an indirect sign that the provider is reputable and confident in Alibaba’s eyes. Gold Supplier is actually a paid membership program under which a third party identifies the authenticity of the supplier or manufacturer by ensuring that it is legally registered. It is believed that if a supplier has been a gold supplier for more than 2 years then it is almost impossible for him/her to be a scammer and you can completely count on this.Assessed Suppliers: Assessed Suppliers are China, Hong Kong & Taiwan Gold Suppliers that are verified by third-party inspection companies provides you with in-depth information on the Suppliers. This involves verified videos, pictures and many other inspection criteria, it’s not going to be incorrect to say that not being genuine is nearly impossible for an evaluated provider. But the issue is that very few suppliers on Alibaba are actually assessed suppliers as it is a very expensive membership plan and is only available to a certain number of countries on Alibaba. Some Other useful Criteria’s to consider are:Transaction rate: Transaction rate tells us about the total number of transactions a given supplier has made in a period of 6 months. It is represented by orange-colored diamonds. The higher is the transaction rate, the more experienced and skilled the supplier is.Response rate: According to Alibaba “Response rate is the number of buyers you responded to within 72 hours of receiving the inquiry” needless to say a higher response rate tells us that how active a supplier is.Minimum Order Quantity (MOQ): Every supplier has a specific MOQ on Alibaba but it is quite flexible, many times I’ve brought various items from many suppliers on Alibaba which were less than the listed MOQ. So never be afraid to ask for a lower MOQ some factories might offer you that quantity without increasing the price too much.IN LAYMAN’S TermsWhen you search for products always use Long tail keywords and prefer asking for Quotations, in this way you can get information about MOQ (Minimum order quantity) and whether the Seller is Gold Seller and Trade assured, always prefer sellers with more than 2 years in service. Also, do check how many transactions have been made and reviews. Once you are happy with all the information contact Seller ask them to send Live pictures or videos to see how they look without photoshop. After Satisfaction check, if they can send you a free sample and choose FedEx or DHL this two may seem expensive but trust me its worth it as they will take care of Customs Duty and provide you Faster Delivery. How to ensure the quality of the product? You can’t genuinely guarantee the value of the product by just seeing its pictures on Alibaba, Images might offer you a reference to what the product might look like, but you can never really be sure of the quality. If you are planning to sell a product from Alibaba to Amazon, eBay, Flipkart or any other E-commerce platform it will be essential for you to choose a high-quality product. And to do this, you just need to follow this one simple, but super-effective golden rule.Always ask for a Free product sampleIt is always advisable to get a free sample first before you buy in medium or large quantities. Now here is the catch This free sample is not actually free. What? Shocked???? Yeah!!! You need to pay for the shipping charges, those shipping charges might even exceed the cost of the product you are ordering this happens because every shipping company has a minimum weight slab limit but always get the sample no matter what. If even by a slight chance you ordered something in bulk which does not meet your quality expectations then you’d be facing a crisis.Yes, you can return the products on Alibaba but that comes with its own charges, Alibaba is not like Amazon it doesn’t entertain you with free returns. Even if you have to pay 60$ for a product which costs you around 10$ when you order it in bulk, Order the sample first then think about the bulk purchase.Which shipping company should you choose?Although every provider tends to have certain agreements with only a few shipping firms, DHL and FedEx are the two most common shipping firms used by Alibaba providers. You don’t need to worry about customs clearance as these businesses have their own CHA, which will manage all the customs clearing process on your part and ensure that the package is delivered at your doorstep.Personally, I’ve never tried anything besides FedEx and DHL, yes, they’re a little costly, but they’re always making timely deliveries and ensuring free custom clearance.Which method of payment should you choose? When making a purchase on Alibaba, you should always pick the safest and most commonly known payment technique.Even though the provider may seem genuine and friendly, you should always first plan the safety of your company! As you can see, Alibaba has a lot of payment techniques, but more than 80% of consumers use their debit/credit card and PayPal for business insurance providers. If you are using PayPal, you will not be covered under Alibaba’s trade insurance system as PayPal is not yet integrated with Alibaba’s website, but needless to say, PayPal is completely safe in itself and it protects your money from payment to delivery. Both of the payment methods charges come around to 4-5% (May wary) commission fees if you pay through them, which makes almost no effect on the cost of the product. Personally, I’ve never used anything besides PayPal and Debit card for trade assurance supplier, if the supplier is not under trade assurance, I won’t even consider requesting for a price quote. To read more interesting stuff click hereIf you like How to buy products from Alibaba in India? please share and support.
