PDF Editor FAQ
What do you really look like in person if you took a selfie right now?
Funny - I’ve been trying to figure out if I like the red lipstick all day.I keep trying to take pictures of my smile - this is about as natural as I can get while being self-conscious and aware of how I look. I know it’s goofy but I’m tired of my severe look.I’m forty-fricking-eight years old; I look it…forehead wrinkle. I also look like some advertising image from the 1950s. Wholesome. My teeth are little.I like the edited background one better.
Is China trying to erase the Cantonese language in Hong Kong?
No, it’s not.I’d make the case that they’re not trying erasing Cantonese on the Mainland either. Or alternatively, if they are trying, they’re doing a terrible job. Here are Mainlanders rocking to Canto tunes by the legendary HK band Beyond:Numuves is a Canadian Chinese dude. While in a lot of his videos he’s out to prove a point and so blunt with his sarcasm that you could probably clobber someone to the death with it, he’s just some dude with a camera, unfiltered, minimally edited. Background chatter is a mix of Mandarin, Cantonese, and English.(Not going to lie, the vibe is cool. I rate that.)Here’s a short documentary by “Our Hong Kong Foundation”, an HK-based think tank founded by the first Chief Executive, Tung Chee Hwa. This one’s about “city centre villages” in China:They interview a man from Guangzhou, in Guangdong. It’s 100% in Cantonese. You can tell it’s the Mainland and not some obscure corner of Hong Kong since the signs are in Simplified Chinese.Personal anecdote: one of the guys I became friends with during uni was a Mainland guy, Guangdong. I don’t think he has ever even set foot in HK. He speaks Cantonese too, fairly fluently. Take what you will from that.To be honest, trying spin “the youth are being taught the language the rest of the country speaks too instead of just the regional dialect” to “language erasure” is a pretty… wild move.
Why does television cause exhaustion in introverts?
As mentioned here:Nick Yee's answer to What makes introverts introverted? In broad strokes, Introverts have high neural activity even at rest and thus are constantly trying to avoid additional visual and social stimuli. Extraverts are at a constant deficit and require extra stimuli to compensate.Simply, TV is a constant visual and auditory stimulant, and us introverts need a break!Edit: Just wanted to add. I do enjoy watching TV as a break from the world, escapism, etc., as others have stated too, but I think there's a huge difference between watching TV because you want to and your in control of the content versus it constantly being on in the background out of your control. To me, what the OP describes, would be the same as being forced to listen to someone else's music 24/7 whether I wanted to or not, which as an introvert would be equally exhausting.
