There are lots of tricks….these steps will also reduce your unwanted phone calls!Contact ALL the companies you do business with and opt out of “sharing” via their privacy policy or sign into your account and change your preferences (marketing, security, privacy, your choices, etc.).Contact ALL the business you have stopped doing business with and do the same. Companies can still sell/trade/loan your info even after you close an account. Your credit reports will help locating past creditors (Experian, Equifax, TransUnion and Innovis).Obtain your credit reports - Google FTC (federal trade commission) credit reports for instructions. I prefer calling the phone number provided so my reports are mailed to my current address. Call the dispute number on the reports and ask the clerk what creditors is reporting said info. Contact the creditor - update/remove/opt out of sharing/marketing! Remove ALL old phone numbers - helps the poor sole(s) who now have this number - stops the calls they are receiving for you. Remove/change incorrect name/address variations - your goal is to have one name variation (females - maiden/married - one each) and one address variation for each correct address.Prescreen opt out is a MUST!DMAChoice is a MUST! Include ALL name/address variations when applying because you ONLY want to pay their fee once! Use the website truepeoplesearch as reference to what info to include in this registration (correct/incorrect info). Why incorrect info? This report shows ALL the info marketing companies have attached to your name. NOTE: If helping an elderly friend/family member - use their phone to contact these companies. If you don’t then you will begin to receive aging junk mail (hearing aids, AARP, Medicare, etc.) - your basically added to the “aging” marketing list.Call the NCOA (national change of address) database and request the removal of ALL expired COA’s (Change of Addresses). The website Melissa Data is a list of what the NCOA has on you.If you have had multiple COA’s over the years - ask the USPS to combine them. This will correct any marketing databases info which will be easier to remove your info from.Take note of any mailings in your name and the wording “or current resident” - this is the mail that the next resident will receive when you move - Remove yourself from these lists before you move.Take note of any presorted STD mailers - these too are NOT forwarded via an USPS COA (change of address). Meaning these mailings will continue to mailed at your old address when you move - identity theft potential.Take note of any EDDM/ECRWSS/ECRWSH mailers these too are NOT forwarded via an USPS COA.If receiving EDDM (every direct door) or ECRWSS/ECRWSH (Enhanced Carrier Route Walk Sequence Saturation) mailers. These can be difficult to STOP! SAVE these for last! First contact the sender and ask to be removed from their mailing list - keep the mailer for future reference. Google the company and locate their privacy policy/opt out procedure, etc. (company name + opt out or remove or remove from mailing list).
