As a parent’s responsibility is to provide for children, the parent has fulfilled the responsibility to keep the child fed. If the kid is full, feed no more.However, if the kid comes up fifteen minutes later and wants cake, pie, or ice cream, obviously they weren’t full. Bring back out their meal and tell them to finish it, then if they are still hungry they can have cake, pie, or ice cream. If they balk, then obviously they aren’t really hungry, and the parent’s obligation is fulfilled.A kid should never be forced to eat when not hungry. This is a good way to have obese children and cause them health problems down the line.

It wasn’t a cake, actually, but a pie.A long time ago, I found a recipe for chocolate cream cheese pie, learned it, and began to modify and play with it, till about three years later I had it the way I wanted it. As I was the only member of my family who baked, I was often asked to make it for family occasions, and my mother said it was one of her very favorite desserts.Many years later, my mom was dying of cancer. She asked all three of us to make it home for her birthday/Christmas (her birthday was Christmas Eve). I had arrived a day or two early, and was shocked to find how debilitated she was. She spent most of her time in her bedroom, had almost no appetite and was in more or less constant pain. In spite of this, I decided to make her favorite things for her birthday dinner - a white vegetarian lasagna I would make for her. and, of course, the chocolate cream cheese pie. Even if she couldn’t eat it, she’d know we’d all thought of her.That night, I worked in the kitchen with the help of the rest of the family. Mom couldn’t make it out of the bedroom to join us, so I made her a tray, with a decent sized wedge of the lasagna (white sauce, crushed artichoke hearts, spinach) and a slice of pie. My sister brought it into the bedroom while I served everyone else. Some ten, fifteen minutes later she came out - both plates were empty.Best pie ever.
