Lmao.I got THREE of these calls today.The first two I hung up on, rolled my eyes and sighed, lamenting the fact that such a line might fool … anyone.Then the third call came, and this time, I got a little pissed.So instead of hanging up, I hit the keypad for “if you would like more information."When the accented voice began to speak on the other end of the line, I took a volume pill (Marine word for deep breath) and in my most authoritative Marine Non Commissioned Officer's Voice said:“THIS IS SPECIAL AGENT JACK CALLAHAN OF THE FEDERAL BUREAU OF INVESTIGATION, FRAUD DIVISION. WHAT IS YOUR NAME, PLEASE??!!”Would you believe they didn't say anything, they just hung up, and never called back? Just…so surprised.

Every time my mother contacts me, it’s for something she wants. She needs. She needs me to know. She’s never called me just to talk. She’s never tried to spend time with me because she wanted to. She’s only done so because she had to. Honestly, I stopped asking for her to do things with me around the age of 8. It made things easier.I’ll start on the matter of trust by saying that if I am going to trust someone, I want for them to trust me in return. Trust me to handle my business. Trust me to do the things I say I will. Just generally offer me some sort of trust at all. My mother doesn’t trust me. At all. Anything small that happens to her is suddenly, overwhelmingly, my fault. Let me give you an example.The last time I spoke to my mother was 2018. Yesterday, I received a text from her out of the blue:I’ve said before, my mother is not the brightest bulb on the tree. She needed me to pause the movie WALL-E while we were watching it and explain the plot to her, because she didn’t understand what was going on. She constantly berated me while growing up for being an idiot, or not doing well enough in school when I managed a “B” on individual assignments. I won’t even go into what happened when I got an “F” on a reading assignment (Not through any fault of my own, might I add).A quick Google will paint a clear picture to everyone. You can’t suspend a social security number. In fact, the Wall Street Journal published an article about robocalls on this exact issue. So, let’s say you’re a parent and you get a robotic call saying your Social Security number is being suspended because of fraudulent activity in Texas. Do you:a. Look at the phone number, maybe Google it to see where it came from?b. Google the claim. Perhaps it’s a scam?c. Look up the logistics of a Social Security Number being “Suspended?”d. Text your daughter, who has had nothing to do with you for two years, and accuse her of fraud.If you picked “d” congratulations, you’re a crap parent. Two days straight of this nonsense, and proving not only that it was a fraudulent call, but the phone number came from Kansas wasn’t enough to fix this. I had to explain to this woman that the US Government doesn’t call people. They send official mail on US government letterhead to prove their point. All through the conversation I’m being called a liar and a thief.The woman doesn’t have anything I’d want. In fact, and this is the real beauty of all this, my mother stole my social security number while I was a minor, and used me for credit checks. On all my credit reports her name is listed as an alias. Isn’t that great?Now, I’ll be completely transparent here. Why does my mother think I’m frauding her?When I went to college, she took out loans in her own name called a “Parent Plus” loan. I promised her I would take care of all of it. She’d never have to lift a finger. True to my word, yearly she sends me what I need and I go through the income driven repayment paperwork, and file everything. I pay everything on time, and she’s never even seen the loan website.Why?Because I don’t think she’s capable. Not only that, but I made a promise. Even if I hate her, and want nothing more than to default on these loans to teach her a lesson, she trusted me. Unlike her, I’m accountable for my promises. I am trustworthy. I do not lie. I only want the same in return, but she’s never trusted me, and never will. She lies to me constantly. Since my father left the picture and subsequently returned 11 years later, it’s been nothing but lies, and I had to read court documents to find out the truth.I will never trust anything this woman says to me.I trust my mother to lie, swindle, cheat, and martyr her way into my bank account though, so in a sense, sure I trust her.
