A2A. How hard is it to get into Berkeley's Education Ph.D. program? Do I still have a chance with an average undergraduate GPA but a very good GPA in two master’s (M.A. and M.Ed), publications, congressional awards and teaching experience?Berkeley is a reach school for everyone especially at the doctorate level. The fact that you have some publications may be enough to get you admitted; however, your entire academic record is subjectively evaluated and compared to all the applicants. It is extremely important that you read Essays and GPA Worksheet found in Graduate School of Education. You will need to take the GRE.

What was the cruelest thing a school teacher did to you or someone else?

When I was a kid, I grew up on a farm. There was animals to feed, and chores to do.I was also the smallest and youngest in my class. Back in those days, September 30th was the cut off date, and I just squeaked through. I really should have waited another year before starting school. It took years for me to catch up to my classmates, especially since I am a baby boomer and there were forty kids in my class to one teacher. The other classes had an average of 25, but for some reason people were getting really jiggy in 1963.After getting home from school, I had to do chores first. By the time they were done, supper was ready, then washing dishes, then homework. If the lesson was easy, I might get an hour of downtime. If it was hard, I would be doing homework until bedtime, which in third grade, was 8:30. If I didn’t have my homework done, it wasn’t going to GET done.Mrs. T. (a first year teacer) was not a fan of incomplete homework. First infraction was having to complete the assignment three times, writing out the worksheet AND the answers. Between chores, homework, and having to copy the worksheet three times, it became too much. I didn’t get done. The next day I was told I was stupid and lazy. The kid who had to slop the hogs, tend the garden, clean the house, and I was stupid and lazy? Didn’t wash. She informed me that I had to copy the homework SIX times. I didn’t have time for three, and she wanted six. I didn’t get that done either. So she made it NINE times. Might as well have been a million.Luckily, nine times happened on a Friday. After chores, homework, and supper, I started the copying. I worked on it till bedtime. The next day, while my sister played outside, I spent the better part of the day copying those stupid worksheets. I made it to seven copies by Saturday night. Still had chores to knock out.Sunday was breakfast, church, chores, and I finally finished the last two copies. This tired eight year old handed a stack a quarter of an inch high of paper to the teacher. Mrs. T. took one look at it, and threw it in the trash with the admonition to never turn in an incomplete assignment again. So in order to give myself some downtime, I started just winging the worksheets when I felt like I wasn’t going to get done on time. I was bogged down on understanding the assignment, but instead of turning in an incomplete assignment where the answers that had been given were right, I turned in a complete assignment where most of the answers were guesses, and more often than not, wrong. My grades plummeted as a result. No tutors, no contacting the parents to say there was a problem. My parents wondered why I was doing so much homework, but they considered school to be my job, and my homework was my responsibility. But eventually, they started to ask why I had so much homework.Other kids grew up on farms and had chores, why was I bogging down? So they had a meeting with Mrs. T. Turns out grades were down all across the board…mine were just some of the worst. A lot of the other parents were also complaining about the excessive amounts of homework. Mrs. T. said she had made the lessons super easy, and that she did that as she didn’t have the time available to make sure forty kids understood the assignment. I managed to squeak through third grade with a D average. But nothing got done.If I thought third was tough, fourth was tougher. Mrs. T’s husband taught fourth, and he was worse. EVERYBODY was stupid and lazy. Now at the teacher/parent conferences, things were icy between the teachers and parents. Complaints were made.I scraped through with a D minus average.Mr. and Mrs. T’s contracts were not renewed. They moved elsewhere.Fifth grade came, and we got Mrs. S. She took the time to answer questions, made sure we understood the lesson, and encouraged us. Homework was a lot less too. I could get it done in an hour.So the two teachers that called me stupid and lazy will never know that I ended up going to college, had a 3.97 GPA and was always on the Dean’s list.In your face, Mr. and Mrs. T.

How do I get a 4.0 GPA at UC Berkeley?

Hi, I am currently a junior at UC Berkeley and have plenty of 4.0 or near 4.0 friends as examples that you might want to emulate or jump off of.Let me spit out the brutal truth at Berkeley. Most students at Berkeley who get a 3.9-4. 0 don’t work as hard as those who are in the 3.5+ range. This could be biased, but I know/am friends with at least 20 people who have a 4.0, so hopefully variance is reduced. Most of them are CS/EECS, ditch all the classes except breadths, and watch tv shows/twitch stream/sports channels or do research in their free time. The few times they study is 3–4 days before exam where they cover all the material in one go and learn how to solve some problems. Then they go on with their A+ on midterm/final. This covers around 60–80% of the 4.0 students. These students are gifted with immense talent and have a strong potential to change the world. They often end up in big companies, like Google and Facebook, to earn stable salaries before they venture out. In fact, the ones that I know of usually go to quant firms like Jane Street or Two Sigma. This is the average trajectory of such a student. To be honest, 4.0’s rarely go on to do fulltime research and do masters instead, and they have calculated the tradeoff between $$$ and 4 years of PHD. I only know 3 4.0 students who decided to pursue PHD track. This general trajectory is sampled from the smartest people I have met at Berkeley. The second category of 4.0 students (20–40%) are the hardworkers. They are not the ones gifted with heaven-defying talent, so hardwork makes up the gap between the geniuses. Without consistent hard work, they wouldn’t do so well in academics. The typical trajectory of such student is watch all webcasts, read all slides, do all the worksheet and midterm problems on HKN/TBP, and barely get A on the exam. These people are trying too hard in academics, perhaps wanting to build a strong foundation, but this effort ought to be better invested in social skills, discovering passions/discovering yourself, or living a better/happier life. The main purpose of academics is for students to gain knowledge/specialize into one field e.g. CS or ML for research or gain a strong foundation to go into industry. Realize that as an individual, you are not controlled by market demands like that ML, but rather individual desires. Go on your own way, disregard GPA no matter how hard it is to sever that drive to get 4.0, and explore as much as you can

Stay clear of this company. False advertising and refusal to refund money for a product i could not use. Lots of headaches with no support. Finally got my money back by dealing with credit card company. CocoDoc failed to come through with their product, customer service, and refused a refund. Do yourself a favor and look elsewhere.
