If a person already has a formal diagnosis of Paranoid Schizophrenia, then that person has been or still is under the care of a psychiatrist, already. It is a pretty serious disorder. If you are the person’s spouse or relative, then ask the person with paranoid schizophrenia if you can have their permission to talk with their doctor about your concerns. It’s worth a try.But as long as an individual with Paranoid Schizophrenia is able to care for themselves properly, pay their bills, drive safely, manage a household or job, etc. and is connected with reality enough to know what year it is, who the president currently is, etc., then they’re considered to be functioning well enough to not need to be involuntarily committed.But if a PWPS’s (person with paranoid schizophrenia) behaviors include extreme self-neglect, extreme hoarding (particularly animal hoarding, or to the point where the property is infested with rats and other vermin), or if the PWPS has minor children or a dependent such as a elderly or disabled, cognitively-impaired adult relative and the PWPS and/or their dependents are living in filthy conditions, are being neglected or abused, or if the PWPS is house-bound due to their paranoia or agoraphobia, etc., then you can report the situation to social services and ask for Child Protective Services or other government social services to investigate the situation, and if the conditions are considered to be harmful or dangerous enough, social services will remove the children or the dependent, and facilitate getting the PWPS into a treatment program.
