For all of the functions of HR there will still need to be someone who understands the laws and technical know how so when there are issues with the computer system/AI, someone will understand how to do the process manually.With the 6 parts of HR that require a human-to-human interaction (Talent and Organizational Development, Employee Relations, Compensation, Union Negotiations, Employee Engagement and Training) a specialist will need to exist operating under the supervision of a manager because computers don’t understand feelings. It would be difficult for someone to open up to a emotionless robot about how their boss offered them a raise for a sexual favor or how their co-worker put a dead squirrel in their desk. Our Human Resources Information Systems (HRIS) team integrated our system directly with the vendor and now the report is submitted without a human presence.PayrollPayroll also already has a computer doing a lot of the work that humans used to. Just yesterday I was conducting the payroll audit. It requires some technical know how with Excel on my part with the ultimate goal of determining if or why the computer gave arrears to specific employees who recently returned from a leave of absence. I merely inspect the results of the work that the computer did and then double check that the payroll team isn’t in cahoots with someone else at the company. We don’t want people conspiracizing and paying each other extra money or bonuses for favors or something.RecruitingWhen I was a recruiter I often found myself using Boolean searches in computer programs like indeed and ziprecruiter. I would search for a list of skills and experiences and once the massive amount of candidates was filtered down to a more realistic number I would insert a pre-created template inviting the people to apply. The computer would then input the name of individual at the top of the email template so it seemed more personal. Most all entry level position are found in this manner. There are just so many candidates to choose from and the company has no motivation to pay more employees to do the work that one computer and one human can do for half the cost.I think its very important that you predict the future in the best way that you can. Otherwise you might be going to college for a job that won’t exist in 10 years. This is why I am getting a well rounded view of HR rather than specializing in one area because I know that people who lead the HR department will be more in demand than those that once ran the day-to-day minutia.
