Because just like any new OS it was buggy on release.People used XP for over 4 years so they don’t remember it being buggy which it was and even then XP was using NT kernel 5 which was also used in Windows 2000.So the kernel was super stable and 3 years old when XP was released.With XP it had good driver support, and if you did not have a driver for an old piece of hardware, you could at times Force a windows 2000 driver to load and it would work due to the kernel being in the same albeit updated.Enter Windows Vista.It uses a new kernel so it needs new drivers, hardware manufactures did not want to support old hardware(Just like how microsoft does not want to support old software) so people who had printers that worked under XP, found out that it did not work under Vista.Their lack of understanding made them hate Vista.Another aspect of the issue was the hardware in new PCs.There were 3 types of PCs when Vista came out.Type 1:Designed for XP but Vista Capable.These PCs just met the minimum system requirements for Vista Basic.So people who got this PC and installed Vista they had a really bad time as it was not a PC that was really capable of running Vista once you loaded your programs on it.Type 2:PCs that meet the recommended requirements or exceeded them.These PCs were a mixed bag.If the hardware inside was not cheap and the slowest, the PCs were not half bad.But OEMs are not known for using quality components now are they?Type 3: The UpgraderThis is hard to judge, these users upgraded their XP or earlier machines to Vista.Just like with the “Vista Capable” PCs the experience was depended on the hardware.I went from XP to Vista Home Premium and had no issues.As for Vista.It became a good OS once you applied SP1 and SP2.People just didn’t like the fact that it needed more hardware.But sad fact is XP was not safe for the modern internet enabled world.Heck even when XP was supported it was not really safe and YOU needed an anti-malware program to protect you.XP was without its share of issues even after XP SP3 was released.Ever done a file copy in XP(or remember it?1 error, 1 tiny little error during copy.STOPPED THE WHOLE COPY.This error could be as simple as “File in Use”Yeah, when copying 300GB of files, this error was a pain in the ass.Windows Vista done away with that crap, now you can choose to skip or retry on files that have these issues.I could make XP crash, it was rather easy.I could’ve made a simple batch script to take down all the computers in a network when I was in high school.Vista made it harder to do this.
