PDF Editor FAQ

Where should a young self-employed couple live in Florida?

My recommendations are as follows:1. Ft. Lauderdale - Mostly because it's in the middle of the Tri-County area. This accomplishes 4 out of your 5 goals immediately while putting 1 (good restaurants) easily in reach. Ft. Lauderdale has a decent talent pool & a nascent tech events culture but there is *something* there. Additionally, upside is that the beach is less crowded.2. Miami Beach - This accomplishes 4 out of 5 & may or may not allow for 1 (cheaper than SF). The upside is that the food in Miami Beach is AMAZING, absolutely, positively delectable. Additionally, this puts you right in the swing of things as far as tech goes, we have a healthy tech community so should you want to host or participate in python, ruby or any sort of tech meetups / events it's a possibility. Finally, you say you're internet entrepreneurs, if you need to hire someone locally, Miami is going to be your best bet.3. Sunny Isles - A potential compromise because it's more quiet & less crowded, but more expensive housing. Accomplishes pretty much 5 out of 5 as long as housing meetings your pricing requirements (Beachfront Oceanview 1/1 goes for $2100-$2800 a month).

Is $110k per annum a good salary in San Francisco for someone with 1 year of experience?

I know there are few companies/startups that pay more and there are few that pay less. So $110k is good IMO. Now SF is expensive, and if you're planning to move there with the objective of just saving money - don't. However, if you're moving there because you want to work with best folks in tech., best companies in tech., and may be startup on your own some day. Just do it. No place like it.I don't know of other benefits (stock options, perks etc.) your company might be offering, but let's just say there's nothing of that. You'll probably make about 5.5K+ after all taxes etc. at this salary if you're filing as a single (assuming you're single).Rent in city/sf will cost between $2200-2800 for a studio/1 bed. If you want to share an apartment, you save some money. Move further south and if you are okay taking BART or Caltrain to work you can live in Millbrae or San Mateo (~ 45 min ride). The rent you pay for a 1 bed room apartment is around $1700. That leaves between 3-4k per month for your other expenses. Now it all depends on your lifestyle and I'll leave it for you to decide. In my opinion, 110k is good; I have so many friends who lead a comfortable life with such pay. Plus if you're from a good school and are doing great work, you'll have so many opportunities once you move to bay area. Not suggesting you jump the boat, but you'll be bombarded with requests by recruiters on LinkedIn etc. once you move there. Good luck!

When will India overtake Russia as a military power?

Interesting question! This will definitely happen sometime in future. Lets compare some of the current and future front line equipment of both the Armies , Navies and Airforces. Im only gonna touch up the front line equipment , as talking about every equipment of the both the militarizes would take forever.I will start with the Navy :Currently, Russia has one sole aging Carrier, the Kuznetsov , which was commissioned in 1990. Today its an ageing 28 year old warship with reliability issues.India on the other hand, has the INS Vikramaditya , commissioned in 2013. Though based on an older hull, the warship was stripped down and rebuilt into the massive Carrier with state of the art capabilities , ready to serve well beyond 2040.I would say , India is ahead in this regard, and a few years down the line, the gap will only grow with India commissioning its second Carrier, the INS Vikrant.Im not gonna be comparing the future projects such as Shtrom and INS Vishal as both are in conceptual stage.Lets get to Submarines. Here, the Russian Navy is ahead by miles. With 59 Submarines vs India’s 15.Even in the near future, say 2025, the Russian Navy will continue having similar numbers, by replacing their older sub fleet with the newer ones under construction. The Russian Navy currently has 11 Subs under construction. The Indian Navy currently has 8–9 subs under construction which will add to the numbers getting it upto 24 by 2025 . Though the gap will be reduced, the Russian Navy will still continue to be ahead in this regard.Coming to Frigates and Destroyers, the Russian Navy has 17 Cruisers/Destroyers as against India’s 11. However while India has some pretty advanced Destroyers like the Kolkata Class , all of Russia’s Destroyers are outdated designs from the 60s/70s and 80s.Coming to Frigates, the Russian Navy has 7 Frigates, vs India’s 16. All 16 of India’s Frigates are modern, while 4 of Russia’s 7 Frigates are outdated from the 80s and 1990.Coming to the future, India is building 4 of some of the most advanced Destroyers to be commissioned between 2018–2024. Russia on the other hand has no concrete plan to construct any new Destroyers anytime soon, with their current fleet going further in obsolence.Coming to Frigates , Russia is currently constructing 7 Frigates, while India too started construction of their latest Frigates, 7 in number as well, however bigger and more advanced. As of 2025, India will have a clear edge with their Destroyers and Frigates.Overall, my conclusion would be , the Indian Navy would be overtaking the Russian Navy by around 2025, mainly based of its more modern and state of the art warships.Coming to the Airforce:The Russian Airforce currently has 1341 Fighters/Bombers, roughly twice that of the Indian Airforce with 689 Fighters/Bombers.The best fighter of this lot is the Su-35, 68 of which are part of the Russian AF. Both Airforces consist of modern 4th and 4.5th gen fighters along with some outdated 3rd gen fighters. With comparable quality, the Russian fleet is about twice as strong as the Indian fleet based of quantity.Coming to the future, the IAF has around 200 4.5th gen fighters on order to replace its entire fleet of 200 3rd gen fighters by 2025. The Russian SF has 88 4.5th gen fighters on order along with orders for some numbers of 5th gen PAK FA to be placed soon.My conclusion would be that, even though India would close the gap with Russia by 2025, it will only be minimal, with Russia still having a comfortable lead. A lot will depend on how many PAK FA the Russian Airforce inducts by 2025.Coming to the Army :The Russian Army currently has 1 mil Active troops and roughly 2800 Active tanks. Among the 2800 Tanks, Roughly 900 are modern consisting of T-14, T90 and T80. The Russian Army plans to replace their T-72s with the T-14, however their tank production has been slow and it will take time. The Indian Army has 1.2 Mil active troops with roughly 4500 tanks. 1100 of them are modern consisting of Arjun mk1 and T90s.Here I would give a clear edge to India .The future is still unclear considering at what rate Russia will be producing their T-14s. India however is producing T90s under license at a good rate, and would start the production of its latest Arjun mk2 by 2019–20.Overall conclusion :I believe the Indian Navy and Army would be superior to their Russian counterparts as of 2025. The IAF will however lag behind by a fair margin.Lately with Russia’s economy being hit hard, Russia Defence budget has fallen below India’s as of 2017. This would affect their modernization and expansion programmes. The rate of India’s economy growth and military modernization/expansion is far higher than that of Russia’s.
