Laptop Request: Fill & Download for Free

IB Diploma Student here, sitting May 2018 Exams.I have used my laptop extensively at school, and here are the requirements I would recommend: (and no DO NOT get any Macbook unless your school requires it, some HK schools do)EDIT: DON’T GET A CHROMEBOOK. They DO NOT support MICROSOFT OFFICE, which is CRUCIAL to completing IAs. Google Docs formatting IS HORRIBLE. GET A WINDOWS MACHINE, PM ME AND I CAN GIVE YOU TAILORED RECOMMENDATIONS. RANT OVER.Long battery life, because you’re going to be cramming assignments and IAs and whatnot at school, usually on the day it’s due. And especially in Year 2 Diploma, you’re going to be at school for about 9 -10 hours a day.8GB or more RAM, because when you’re researching + listening to music, you’ll have a bunch of tabs open, that takes up lots of memory. Personally, I usually have 40 tabs open at any given time, up to 80 when doing projects. If you can get 16GB RAM, get it.Good keyboard + build quality, because you’re going to be frantically mashing the keyboard all day long, and you’re going to be hauling your laptop to all your classes, so it needs to be built well to survive the occasional drop and regular wear and tear.SSD, solid state drive, this speeds up the laptop A LOT. An ancient netbook or something can be sped up a lot just by swapping out the storage for an SSD.Processor doesn’t really matter too much, because most of your usage will be web browsing and word processing anyways. Get a separate gaming desktop for gaming.Recommended OS is Windows, for Microsoft Office support. You can get by with LibreOffice on Linux 90% of the time, but there’s always that 10% of the time where your LibreOffice files won’t format correctly on MS Office, and it will be a pain to fix, especially if you’re cramming an IA (speaking from personal experience).If your budget is below $500 USD, get a USED THINKPAD. I myself use a ThinkPad T540p, and I thoroughly enjoy it, even if battery life is garbage. If you need specific laptop requests, just message me, I will be glad to help you out! Cognizant doesn't provide any laptop to any offshore associates designation below manager, but if you have to provide weekend/late night support from home , you can raise a laptop request.

Thanks for the A2AShort answer: Anywhere between 2 days to a month.Long answer: Laptop requests are usually given a priority (low/high/medium) while raising the request. You've mentioned new hire in the question but not the career level, so I'm not sure about the priority of your request. Usually level 12/11 joiners are given low priority by default. So, let's go with that.After raising a request, it depends on availablity of laptop at the Delivery Centre you've placed a request at. Your manager can speed this process up if he feels that work is being hindered because of you not being able to work.I've personally seen people getting laptops from anywhere between 2 days to even 20+ days after raising a request. I received mine 3 days after placing a request.Also, please make sure to confirm whether you'll need to go to the office to collect laptop, or will it be couriered over to you. If you're living in Mumbai/Pune/Delhi/Banglore, then obviously collecting laptop from office would be easier for you.Hope this helps.\m/RNC
