Some years ago I watched a clip from an episode of “doomsday preppers”…In it, a guy had purchased a large bore rifle and was shooting it for the first time with his buddy acting as a spotter.This rifle was equipped with a fairly substantial muzzle brake, and when he let off a round, his buddy caught a lot of the concussion, and it affected him so badly that he vomited and generally acted like he was actually concussed by the blast. iirc, they might have actually called in some medical help.Now, I’ve been next to people firing rifles with brakes, and it indeed can be an unpleasant experience, even with ear protection. A day of shooting PRS caused me to start saving up for a suppressor for my precision rifle.This said, when watching the episode I thought that either a) the reaction was over the top, and ‘enhanced’ for TV, or b)that guy is is real trouble if the zombies ever rise… But yeah, a big bore rifle, with a brake, will generate some major concussion and it’s quite unpleasant to be next to one being fired.
