How did your first job change you?

My life completely changed after my first job. Before the Coronavirus pandemic started, I was busy preparing for several campus placement, sitting for a number of companies GD and Technical interviews, HR interviews. I got placed in two companies before February 2020. But was not happy with the placements I got. In mid of March, we got an email from the Training and placement cell that we will be having our technical and HR interviews of Larsen and Toubro Construction within 10 days after an interval of 7–9 months of the first round. Till this time I had completely lost the hope for this interview. And just one week after that mail, the situation in India started getting worse, we were told by the college that we have to vacate the hostel ASAP. So on 17th March, we booked our tickets to our home.I was all alone in my coach, no company till Rajendra Nagar Terminal, Patna. While we were on the train, we got a call from the training and placement cell that our interview is scheduled tomorrow. In mid of the journey only, two of us had to leave the train and stay in a hotel for the interview. This is the hotel room where I stayed for the interview.During Online InterviewGot selected in the Interview.During Lockdown in my village, I spent almost 5–6 months just waiting for the offer letter and joining letter to come. Finally, I got the offer letter on 1st July 2020 after completing the Pre-Employment Medical CheckupDuring LockdownNow, some of the photos after I left my home for joining in L & T Headquarters Chennai (Information Systems Departments). After reaching in Chennai, Special treatment for New Employees , 14 days in 5 star hotel “Feathers A Radha Hotel” Manapakkam , Chennai. My hotel room 116Hotel MenuL & T Office view from my hotel roomBefore and AfterFIRST EDIT after 19k views :-I got questions in comment boxand messages that specifically how it changed me.So here's the answer to your question.Previously, I was full of questions about my life like what will happen if I don't get a good job , what my relatives and other family members will say but now I am very positive towards my life goals and achievements. It further gives me positivity and moral confidence.NOTE:- Finally, you arrived here reading all the way so, please upvote, share and follow .Most of you will be saying what's the point of getting views and upvotes on Quora as it non-profitable platform. So, let me clear that it gives us satisfaction and interest in sharing more such life experiences.Request you to make this post more than 100k+ views and 1000 upvotes. Also , you are most welcome in case you have some questions, feel free to comment down and ask.Second Edit after 45k+ views:- I got many comments and messages regarding my hair. First of all, let me clear that Before and After collage was created by Google photos automatically, which makes it appear as if I got bald after my first job.😅 That's not the case.

How do I get started using Quora?

Optimise your feed, reward good answers and punish bad behaviourHere are some thoughtsRegularly unfollow questionsHave a topic clear out every few monthsUse block/mute to clear out low value writersUpvote everything that is well written, argued, thoughtful.Downvote joke answers, duplicates, links and answers with little valueNEVER downvote stuff you disagree withFollow people you disagree with. You learn fasterSpend at least some time writing good long answersAnswer questions that you know nothing about but which are researchablePromote and otherwise support quality answerersMake your answers explore contrarian points of viewDon't write the same thing as every one else. Be originalIgnore the number of votes an answer has. There are usually gems deeper in.Unfollow popular writers regularly. You hear more when there is less noiseTurn on notifications for a limited number of writers. It better customizes your feed and better exposes you to related questions than following topics.Always review answers before you follow someone. Is this what you want in your feed?Regularly Unfollow QuestionsThere are some questions such as What corruption have you experienced in your life? that are continually providing fascinating insight. There are other questions such as where the answers after a while aren't that interesting. Would the world be a better place if men were obliged (legally or culturally) to have sex at least once a day?Have a topic clear out every few monthsFollowing Life and Living, Dating and Relationships and other topics can be a conscious choice or it may take you away from you passion for Virology, Startup Business Models or Ancient History. Reviewing what you want to follow can lead to more interesting questions and answers.Blocking and MutingSome people answer hundreds of questions a day, keep on asking you to answer stuff, or spam upvote (from your viewpoint). Blocking, muting, or unfollowing them can remove some of this noise and keep Quora being productive and interestingUpvote EverythingIf you read it and it makes sense, it's well argued, it makes you think or it provides education upvote it. This helps the best answers rise to the tops - not just the most partisan or popular onesDownvote crapI'm a big fan of Downvoting. Think of it as picking up litter in the street. We all benefit and you don't have to get your hands dirty. Does the answer make sense? Does it add value that hasn't already been expressed? Is it incoherent? Does it make personal attacks? I usually downvote the following:Answers that are a single link with no explanation. This adds little value. The author should at least write a few sentences justifying following the linkAn answer that repeats, or duplicates a previous answer. Whilst I feel bad about downvoting them -they haven't added anything original.Sarcastic and joke answers might be funny - but they don't answer the question. Voting them up hurts other quora users.Never downvote because you disagreeIf you are an Atheist it is so tempting to bash the Christianity supporters, and lets not even get started on Republican Party (US politics) and Democratic Party (US politics) let alone Obamacare / Affordable Care Act. Downvoting because you disagree stops people from reading the answer and that is Censorship and kills Freedom of Speech.Follow people that you disagree withI followed lots of people that I agreed with and my feed was so boring. Follow the people who you really want to downvote (but don't because you've listened to me) and you will learn so much more - and like most learning its usually a bit uncomfortable.Long AnswersMatthew Carroll's answer to Where can web startups learn about financial modeling that accounts for the important metrics and costs? was the reason why I started using Quora. I spent weeks using that answer to solve a problem. I've never done anything that good but I try. So whilst I do lots of short answers I try to do at least a couple every week where my research takes a couple of hours.Research Stuff you Don't knowThis is an amazing way to learn. Do it consistently and you learn very quickly. A lot of the time the information is out there in bits and pieces. Using Google Scholar is often useful in finding stuff. About half my answers are about stuff that I only know a little about when I start and it is really worth it when you have a good answer. Here's one Why did the gay scene of the Weimar Republic not reappear after WWII?Promote and support quality answersIf there is something good out there promote it. Vote it up. Comment on it. engage the discussion. I read Someone anonymous's answer to What corruption have you experienced in your life? and it blew me away. So I spent ALL my credits on promoting it. I felt very poor but so proud as I saw how many upvotes that it got. Do the same!Be ContrarianThere are some topics on Quora where there is a preponderance of opinion on one side of the debate or the other. Kawthar Abdullah is a lone voice arguing that Muslims and Islam is not defined by Terrorism. There are many other contrarian opinions that should be and these voices add great levels of good quality debate and help us avoid Groupthink. (Being pointlessly abusive or offensive doesn't count)Be OriginalIt's hard sometimes - and really I like typing too much to know when to stop. But try and bring something new and fresh into each answer and question. Find another angle or aspect or viewpoint and avoid those me too answers. If you have to do a me too answer - then put the effort in to make sure that it is the best me too answer. Include citations in your answers and additional information links.Ignore the number of votes an answer hasSome popular people get lots of votes because they have lots of followers. Some people write amazing answers that never get seen. Look behind the votes to the answers and try and find something better. Help that little 5 vote answer catch up on the 1.2k upvoted answer from 2011 that is now out of date.Unfollow Popular WritersInfact, unfollow everyone on a regular basis. There is definitely an 80/20 rule at play in what you see in your feed. Most of it will come from just a few writers. Unless you are aware of this you don't know what you are missing. Pressing reset every so often allows you to find new nuggets and new strands of thought to followAlec Maki's answer to What turns people off about Quora? captures much of this problem clearly.Review the People you followWhen I first joined I followed loads of triathletes. As far as I can tell only about 3 of the people I followed wrote answers that I found interesting or useful Sumi Kim and Joshua Engel (Quora user) were two. The rest didn't enhance my Quora experience at all.Notifications versus FollowingFollowing provides a method to populate your feed and the people following you. Consider it cross-promotion.Notification provides a direct notice a writer you followed has posted new material. These are the main things that I look at:How many questions have they answered. If its less than a 100 or so they are not contributing enough interesting material to my feed unless they are a great curatorWhat are their answers like - jokes, humour, one liners, opinions can all be picked up in the general feedWhat questions are they answering - are they weighty and will keep me engaged - or is it fluff?Have they a profile picture? - If not they have to be pretty special to follow. If they do I prefer normal photos. Are they upvoting interesting stuff? Will they bring more knowledge my way or just repetition... YawnSummaryTogether all these tips should help you to find more of what you find fascinating and make Quora a more wonderful place for you and everyone else. Enjoy!Updated October 2016

Do (non-British) Europeans think that the Brexit deal offered is fair to the UK?

The deal is not fair at all. It is way too good for the UK.As you can see below, the net contribution of the UK per capita to the EU was tiny compared to other richer EU members. Less than €100 per citizen per year, is that really worth whining about?Considering that the UK economy size is comparable to that of France, it is surprising that the UK total net contribution is significantly lower. The UK total net contribution is comparable to that of the Netherlands, a far smaller economy! How Much Does the EU Cost the UK? - Select Statistical ConsultantsThe reason the UK net contribution is so small compared to other rich EU members, is that the UK has been demanding special treatment and discounts for decades. For some reason, many Brits have always felt they somehow deserved that. Or more likely, they were told by populist politicians that they were paying too much, and never bothered to look up the actual numbers that I so easily found. There has to be a point when the EU says: This is it. We will not give you any more special favors, it would not be fair to the other members. Unfortunately, this eventually caused the misinformed population to vote for Brexit. Thinking that the EU could not do without her entitled, underpaying member, the Brexiteers expected more special favors. Well, I guess they are finding out now that the EU family is pretty much done with them. The UK could have chosen for models used with Norway, Switzerland etc. These countries are perfectly happy with their arrangements with the EU. But what is good enough for them, was not good enough for the UK. It has to end somewhere, and that is the deal that is now on the table. Better than any country inside or outside of the EU has.And they might still not take it, even while it is undisputed that no deal will have terrible economic consequenses for the country.Crazy. Hope it is just a negotiation tactic and they will take it last minute once they realize this is as good as it gets. And not because I am afraid of the consequenses for the rest of the EU, or the Netherlands, where I live. We will probably be welcoming lots of new business and skilled workers. London can obviously not remain to be the financial capital of the EU when it’s not in it.Edit: with regard to all other problems supposedly caused by the EU, I would like to ask the question why other (Western) European countries aren’t experiencing these problems? In Germany, Spain or Finland and anywhere inbetween, major problems are not blamed on the EU. Sure there are problems everywhere, but most countries just solve them instead of pointing fingers. It is also clear that the EU is not perfect, but it is stupid to think walking away will solve anything. The UK will be that rather small foreign island next to the EU. Do you really think that is an improvement for the UK?Edit 2: Brexiteers claim the UK lost its sovereignty to the EU and can’t wait to get it back. This surprises me because in the Netherlands and other EU countries we hadn’t noticed we lost our sovereignty. We understand that if we join a trade block with 27 other countries it means we have to set the trade rules together. Apparently brexiteers believe they can be part of a trade block but still set all the rules by themselves to serve their own interests only and ignore the interests and wishes of the other members. Do they confuse the EU with the British empire?I hope the Brits will accept the deal (or even better, stay in the EU), because I care about the UK and don’t want to see them in decline. It is undisputed that this decline is real, and in the long run, the expectation of recovery and overall improvement is based on wishful thinking and zero facts.
