PDF Editor FAQ

Out of the four Democratic congresswomen involved in the “feud” with President Trump, why does the president especially seem to speak out against Rep. Ilhan Omar?

In order to understand how utterly un-American Rep. Ilhan Omar is, it is worth taking a look at the atrocious things she has said and done in Congress[1] .Consider, for example, her remarks when introducing drug price control legislation[2] :“I believe that healthcare is a basic human right,” Rep. Omar said. “And the right to healthcare extends to being able to access prescription drugs at an affordable price. Americans pay the highest prices to access drugs in the world – including three times the price of drugs in Great Britain alone. Instead of taking donations from the pharmaceutical industry, we need to hold them accountable for taking advantage of the American people.“It is a mark of shame that in the wealthiest country in the world people are dying because they can’t afford lifesaving medicine.Or when the House passed a Freedom Of Religion Act[3] :“We are at a turning point in our history. We must decide whether we stand for liberty and equality or oppression and bigotry,” said Rep. Ilhan Omar. “The Muslim ban is one of this Administration’s most potent symbols of hate—and it is having devastating consequences on families fleeing hardship. As someone who came to the U.S. from one of the banned countries, I am proud to join my colleagues in introducing legislation to end this hateful ban and ensure that we live up to the ideals of our nation.”Or when she introduced legislation to backpay the childcare costs of workers affected by Trump’s shutdown[4] :“What this bill does is simple: it makes sure that the people who are suffering because of the President’s manufactured crisis are at the very least able to cover their childcare expenses,” Rep. Omar said. “This bill is personal for me. I am a working parent with three beautiful children and I know firsthand the costs associated with child care.”Or when she opposed a funding increase for ICE[5] :“In this country, our diversity is our greatest strength. Immigrants fuel our nation’s economy, enrich our nation’s culture, and enhance our social fabric. Quite simply, we are a better nation because of our immigrants.“And yet, this Administration continues to threaten the dignity and humanity of our immigrant population. The Department of Homeland Security has separated thousands of children from their parents, denied asylum to those fleeing danger, and used taxpayers dollars as a slush fund to incite terror in immigrant communities. The efficacy of a government agency must be determined by assessing ‘outcomes.’ By any reasonable measure, Donald Trump’s weaponization of ICE and CBP has been a failure. The Department of Homeland Security does not deserve an increase in funding, and that is why we intend to vote no on this funding package.Or when the House voted to condemn hate of all kinds[6] :“We are tremendously proud to be part of a body that has put forth a condemnation of all forms of bigotry including anti-Semitism, racism, and white supremacy. At a time when extremism is on the rise, we must explicitly denounce religious intolerance of all kinds and acknowledge the pain felt by all communities. Our nation is having a difficult conversation and we believe this is great progress.”Or upon the House passing HR1[7] :“Until we are able to create a fair election system and ensure everyone’s right to participate in our democracy, we will continue to face barriers to the transformative change we seek,” Rep. Omar said “With H.R. 1, House Democrats have passed a once-in-a-generation reform package to restore the promise of our democracy and repair our institutions. I am particularly proud that the final bill includes my legislation to strengthen enforcement of foreign lobbying and my amendment to crack down on lobbyists who represent human rights abusers.”“H.R. 1 is a bold declaration to the American people that the Democratic majority gets it – we want to build a democracy that actually works for the people, because when we do, government will become more responsive to the needs of everyday Americans. If we give regular Americans a seat at the table and the tools to be heard.”We could go on, but I’m nauseated. I certainly hope you are. We have learned that Rep Omar believes:America is the wealthiest country in the worldAmerica stands for liberty and equalityChildren are beautiful and worth providing forAmerica is a better nation because of her immigrantsGovernment departments which fail to meet their targets should not receive increased fundingAnti-Semitism, racism and white supremacy are unacceptableAmerican democracy must work for everyday AmericansHow rude! How un-American!“But her tweets! But ‘the Benjamins’! But she said —“Ah ah ah ah ah.For the past three years the entire conservative world has been telling me that Trump is a perfectly fine President, just ignore his tweets.Well — let the record show that Rep Omar is a perfectly fine progressive Democratic member of the House of Representatives if you ignore her tweets, too. It’s not as if Trump can claim he cares about her tweets, either, seeing as he is fabricating lies about her in his rallies[8] .So what could it be about Rep Omar that scares Trump and his fanbase? Hmm …Must be the … earrings. Yeah. Those earrings! If I were American, I’d be scared of those long arcs of justice curving towards me too!Footnotes[1] Represent[2] Rep. Omar Introduces Sweeping Plan to Lower Drug Prices[3] Rep. Ilhan Omar, House Delegation Introduce Freedom Of Religion Act In Challenge To President Trump’s Muslim Ban[4] Rep. Have you ever had a negative experience with Child Protective Services (or the Department of Childrens Services (DCS) in some states) or known someone who has?

In Florida, it's the Department of Children and Families. I work with them pretty much every day, as I represent parents whose children have been removed. I also sometimes represent the children, although not in the same case obviously. I have worked for the Department, I have worked for the guardian ad litem Program, and I have worked for the parents.I have, of course, had some negative experiences. In Florida there is the department itself, there are private agencies with which the department contracts to provide services to the families involved in investigations or judicial cases, and there is the legal department which represents the state in actions where children are removed from their home. All of these are different entities, and the structure has changed over time.Although there are exceptions, I find that most of the people who get involved in this work, get involved because they want to help children. At some point, some of them may become overwhelmed with a cumbersome and sometimes inconsistent system.I represent parents in several different counties in Florida, and the thing that I find the most frustrating is the differences in the way the department operates in different counties. Although the state has instruments that are supposed to encourage uniformity in approach across the state, in practice it does not always work that way. There are also significant differences in the services available for families in different areas. The large urban areas have more services and more funding for those services than the smaller more rural areas. That can make things more difficult for the parents in any number of ways, depending on their particular situation. The other thing that I find frustrating is the disconnect between investigators and service providers, and the legal staff. This is not limited to DCF, this is across the board for all the parties involved. Because the original investigation and family assessment is based on social work safety and risk assessment tools, they do not always line up with the law.The investigators and social workers tend to evaluate the situation based on an assessment of every possible factor that could potentially cause harm to a child. This leads them to look into things far beyond the incident which brought the child to the attention of the department, and often beyond the scope of the state's authority to interfere in the families’ choices. There is a lot of nuanced judgment called for in making decisions in these cases, and every single one of us in the system sometimes makes the wrong judgment, sometimes with really bad consequences. These are some of the inherent tensions in the system that can make it frustrating for the people who work in it day to day as well as the families involved with social services. Because it is relatively low paying with high personal demands and emotional costs, the work is not for everyone. Some people don't stay in the field for very long for those reasons. The high turnover can contribute to people who are still going through training, and don't fully understand how they are supposed to do their job. This is the one thing that I find most often leads to poor decision-making and really bad experiences.

Do you think Trump's administration could have lost 20% of the immigrant children in it's care to human traffickers?

That 20% of illegal immigrant children are “lost” is a very inaccurate statement. These kids were assigned to guardians, most of them family members or family friends, some of who are in the US illegally themselves. The 20% number comes from the 20% who chose to not answer or return calls from the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). Adults who are in the country illegally typically do not return calls to federal agencies asking for a response. The large majority of these children were brought over during the Obama administration which is also when the photo was taken and widely attributed to the Trump administration by our ever vigilant and accurate mainstream media (not). This photo widely broadcast and distributed by mainstream news sources in 2018 is from 2014.Trump slams Dems for tweeting pic of immigrant kids in cages from 2014The number that is important is that 5 out of 6,000 illegal immigrant children were deported with the adult bringing them through the border. For all the rest, once in, they (and their parents) stay indefinitely, enroll in school, get public assistance and healthcare. That the Democratic Party is being pushed so far to the left by their progressive wing in encouraging increasing numbers of illegal immigrants isn’t going to play well in the national elections. Poll: Americans overwhelmingly oppose sanctuary cities“These children are not ‘lost’; their sponsors — who are usually parents or family members and in all cases have been vetted for criminality and ability to provide for them — simply did not respond or could not be reached when this voluntary call was made,” Hargan said in a statement released Monday evening.Complicating the matter, he said, is that many of the sponsors are illegal immigrants.”While there are many possible reasons for this, in many cases sponsors cannot be reached because they themselves are illegal aliens and do not want to be reached by federal authorities,” he said in the statement.“This is the core of this issue: In many cases, HHS has been put in the position of placing illegal aliens with the individuals who helped arrange for them to enter the country illegally,” he continued. “This makes the immediate crisis worse and creates a perverse incentive for further violation of federal immigration law.”The issue arose after Steven Wagner, the acting assistant secretary at the Administration for Children and Families — a part of HHS — told a Senate panel that the agency had lost track of 1,475 children it placed with sponsors between October and December 2017.The minors had crossed the border unaccompanied by adults. He testified at the hearing on April 26 that ORR tried to reach 7,635 children and their sponsors during that time frame. The agency found 6,075 children were still with their sponsors, 28 had run away, five had been deported and 52 were living with someone else.“ORR was unable to determine with certainty the whereabouts of 1,475” children, Wagner said.Hargan urged Congress to close the “dangerous loopholes” in immigration law that human traffickers and violent gangs like MS-13 often take advantage of.”Until these laws are fixed, the American taxpayer is paying the bill for costly programs that aggravate the problem and put children in dangerous situations,” he said.HHS official calls BS on reports of ‘lost’ immigrant kids
