There’s a couple of routes you can investigate. First, contact the bank(s) direct. A banker will more than likely direct you to their auction sources who are hired to liquidate their buybacks. Next you can check with your local auctions such as Adesa or Manheim. Another resource is good ol Marketplace on Facebook believe it or not to find listings for bank repossessions.

Are you a dealer? If so then you can work with the big boys. Mannheim or Adesa or DAA. If you want to just buy 1 car then an auction is really a terrible place for a non industry buyer to try and save money. You'll fail.Why? Because you don't know prices. You will rely on book values as your guide. Notice book values are a "guide" not the Bible. Why is their a book then? It's just a compilation of values. Banks and collateral lenders and insurance companies need references. Books, Blue, Black, Red and NADA all help.I go to Auction mostly to sell. What do I sell? My problems. I can tell you honestly that 75% of what I sell has hidden problems. They can be repaired. But I don't want the hassle or I'll make repairs that don't pay off. Like emissions or clutches. They don't add value dollar for dollar.If I put $5000.00 worth of new Michelins on a 2015 truck I can get $5000 more on the price. Not so with a $4000 clutch.Same with cars… would you pay book for a 3 year old Mercedes with 80k miles? You would? Well that's a mistake. The book doesn't treat high miles hard enough.So if you want to buy a good used car. Find the model you like. Look at 20 of them. Then look at another 20. Now you are becoming knowledgeable about that model and year. Buy from a reputable dealer. I see more people outfox themselves because they think they have a secret book or an inside edge.I've also "given away" many great deals because I have overspent and need to clear stuff out to make room for fresh inventory or a huge trade package. As an industry insider it's called " let's make some friends" I get the sales force together and tell them to call their good customers and let them know we are going to do some inventory clean out.
