We need to change its name from Mission Mangal to Mission Cliché, ASAP!Let me point out the clichéd moments while you count them:A patriotic scientist as a hero, who knows nothing but science and the country is his life.An arrogant and elite person who opposes each and every move proposed by the hero.A husband who is against his wife working, but ultimately realizes that he is at fault.A lady who proves that even a pregnant woman can be a scientist.A soldier reminding his wife that a scientist is equally important to the country as a soldier.The most complex problems being solved with the simplest of solutions.Huh! So many.To be honest, I had a good amount of expectations on the film because it is a movie based on science and one of the most prestigious missions in the history of Indian aerospace.But, it is ridiculous.Akshay Kumar does a Kapil Sharma by mouthing lame one-liners and stupid jokes. It looks like he mistook this film for Housefull 4.Vidya Balan is like every Indian mother, she throws her idea of science into every damn thing, except, she is a qualified scientist.Taapsee doesn’t seem like an actress who did movies like Game Over and Badla just before this. Her role is both insignificant and senseless.Sonakshi Sinha’s career graph seems to be falling down faster than a stock market during a recession.Nitya Menen’s only reason to sign this movie would be the fact that it is her Hindi debut. Can’t believe she’s played few of the finest roles down South.You remove Kriti Kulhari from the movie, and still, it would be the same.Sharman Joshi seems to have signed this movie after losing a bet.All I expected from a science-based movie on an aerospace mission was some science, a few behind-the-scenes brainstorming about the Mangalyaan and some logic.Did I ask for much?All I got to see was scientists painting the wall, scientists dancing, more melodrama than Big Boss, logic taking a back-seat in Rohit Shetty’s Scorpio, inaccurate facts and concepts and much more.The movie is so predictable that you can guess the climax just 5 minutes into the movie.Having said all this, I’d also like to say that the movie doesn’t bore you. You just don’t get what you expect.If you are expecting a movie based on science, stay at home. Mission Mangal has as much to do with science as Mangal Pandey does.If you are looking for some weekend fun, you can go ahead.Also, the entire space system which is down, starts working after a restart! That too, there’s only 1 lever to switch on or off the entire system!! How?

I don’t know what to write honestly.Because if I write it in male centric view,I would be deemed as misogynist and in female perspective ,a misandrist .So I am writing both.Previous answers have made justice to the movie by giving beautiful summary,how amrita is a loving wife,how the slap incident happens,how exactly people demean and devalue her divorce decision. Some extremely good analysis ,why thappad is literally a thappad on kabir singh movie .But I would like to talk something else in this answer.*******SPOILER ALERT********There is one prime mistake amrita’s husband did.Yes,he did slap her,but he kept on justifying the act by saying “Amu,shit happens.Move on.” Nowhere in the movie did her husband actually sat down with her,talked about it and apologised until the very last scene where amrita is pregnent and outside the family court.The people who ask why divorce,why not forgive him for his one mistake, should understand the tipping point concept. It's the point where you pile up or keep with things and suddenly one teeny tiny thing or incident leads to the outbursts. It's like suffocating and then suddenly gasping for fresh air.Hence,Maybe it’s her tipping point where all the sacrifices she made for her husband while he was chasing targets went down the drain.Think about it.Both characters have invested emotionally in something.Amrita in her husband,and he in his company . So when we justify his anger when he’s denied a position in the company, similarly we should understand why she is filing for a divorce.The second point is Amrita’s husband is not a bad person.Please read the sentence again.Yes,he did slap her.Yes it’s not okay. But we should not deny this that just like females ,males are caught up in the system too.Her husband is brought up in the environment where his mother sacrificed her life for her husband while he was busy playing golf,attending meetups and not being emotionally available.This is normalised,hence he too is is the victim of the system.If we just for a moment analyse his character,we understand he would have apologised long ago if the people around him (primarily relatives ,parents)wouldn’t have normalised this incident.This happens until one day,his boss calls him over in the cabin ,and says It was his mistake.This is the first time in the movie apart from amrita somebody has actually reprimanded him.At a certain point you feel a pang of pity for vikram because he just does efforts in wrong direction.He would rather give amrita a legal notice to return home than give her some space. Again it's not totally his fault. He's just the product of what people were around him. And if you observe the couple were so cutely in love with each other initally. This sums up that he was in infact a very loving husband. This is not justification for the slap. What he did was wrong. But if we really want to label a person an abuser it's very important to analyse them from the beginning itself.It really boils down to the person why and what made them divorce .Amrita at a point says” Uss ek thapad se mujhse woh sari unfair chizon ki yaad ani lagi jo mere saath hui hai” i.e“Just by that one slap,all the unfair things that happened to me,flashed in my mind”. This is similar to the tipping point.Divorce,or not. Theraphy or not .It really depends on the couple.We really cannot decide this until we walk in Amrita and her husband’s shoes and live their life.Definately,the movie leaves a trail in your mind and compels you to introspect about many,many things.Thankyou for reading the answer!
