#1 (Real life incidence)It was a call center job. I went with my friend to drop him to the interview, as I was not interested in call center job I was not dressed up in formals. I was in casuals that day.So, when we were going for interview. He said that it takes time for the interview, why don’t you attend this for time pass? Instead of being outside.Yeah it’s a good Idea. So, went to near by computer center and prepared a single sheet of CV.1st round of interview: Screening.There were around 15 students in the interview hall. So, the lady HR asked everyone to speak on the topic on our choice for a minute. I and my friend chose a topic and spoke for a minute. We qualified for the next round.Though, I was not interested and need of that job at all. So, I never bothered about anything. I spoke my heart out on that day. When you don’t have fear, the outcome will be awesome.2nd round of interview: Personal interview.(She was annoyed by my 1 page CV. Hardly contain anything.)HR: What is CV? Do you know why it’s used?Me: Curriculum Vitae. It’s a brochure to advertise our skill and ability.HR: Do you know how should good CV look?Me: CV should be like a girl's mini skirt: Long enough to cover everything, but short enough to keep it interesting and curious. (Thanks to my soft skill class, I learnt this dialogue from them.)HR: You can leave now. (With annoyed tone)Me: Thanks!Result: As expected. Not selected.#2 (Heard this in Soft skills development class)Interviewer: You are taking a bath, but you forgot to lock the door and suddenly a naked girl enters. What will you do?The best answer: I’ll give her bath. I pursued my engineering in Computer Science and my aim was to get placed in an IT company. So unlike my peers at core branches who had to study the CS subjects extra, all I had to do is to prepare my semester subjects well. However, college syllabus can be outdated at times and hence you need to refer to external sources at times.Kindly understand that preparation for placements is not just a one or two months thing that you do before placements commence but something that you need to focus on throughout your college life. In your first year, you can still chill but starting from the second year, you really need to focus on your placement preparation since 2nd and 3rd year are the only two years you get before you appear for placements in the final year of engineering.Most of the IT companies, at least in India have three major rounds of interviews:Aptitude.Technical Interview.HR Interview.How did I prepare for Aptitude?Not boasting but aptitude had always been my strong point. The best website I would suggest you to refer for your aptitude questions would be India Bix. You can practice questions related to Verbal Ability, Quantitative Aptitude, Logical Reasoning and Data Interpretation from this website containing nicely curated questions and their solutions too. I practised this regularly and referred to the various companies’ aptitude papers and solved as much as I could during my spare time.How did I prepare for Technical Interview?Besides preparing for my college semester exams, I did refer to other websites too for in-depth knowledge since interviewers always ask from the basics. They don’t expect you to know everything but your base should be clear and strong. I referred to this website called Tutorials Point for revising through all the theoretical concepts. In technical interviews, you need to focus on Data Structures, Algorithms, Object-Oriented Programming, Database Management System, Operating System, basics of Networking and a programming language like C, Java or C++. If you know an additional one like Python or R, that's an added bonus. Besides that, I had an interest in Web Development and I knew about HTML, CSS and MySQL too. So that also helped me during the interviews.For the programming part, I referred to Geeks for Geeks and would highly recommend the same. There are plenty of coding problems that you can go through and practice on your own.How did I prepare for HR Interview?This is the easiest part and once you get till here, it is highly likely that you will get selected unless you screw up! I already prepared myself with few of the most commonly asked HR questions like the following and I suggest you too prepare a draft answer before appearing for the interviews.Introduction.Short term Goals, Lon term Goals, Objectives.Where do you see yourself in 5 years?Why do you want to join us?What makes you a good fit for our company?And similar questions like this.Apart from this, I had two internship experiences that helped me largely to bag two job offers in my final year. I interned with a company in my 2nd year and I interned with another one after my 3rd year. Alongside, I had a blueprint ready of the final year project that I was working on and hence I always shifted our discussion to these internships and projects which enabled me to have the upper hand during the interviews.Having said all of that, interviews depend a lot on luck! Don’t be upset if you do not get the job offer, something better awaits for you! Try to deliver your 100% and hope for the best.
