The military doesn't charge for meals and housing. Single soldiers typically with the rank of E-5 and below live in barracks and receive a meal card on top of their pay. Married soldiers receive a housing allowance on top of their pay. They have the option of living in housing on post or living of base/post. If they choose to live on base/post the housing allowance goes straight to the base housing authority and the soldier never sees it. If they live off base/post the housing allowance is direct deposited into their bank account for them to apply to rent. Married soldiers also receive an extra stipend for food, similar to single soldiers.There are scammers out there that portray themselves as soldiers in hardship. The ask unsuspecting people for money so they can go on leave. There is zero charge to go on leave. Also they may pretend to be a solider suffering a hardship. There are programs set aside by the military to help soldiers by loaning them money with small monthly payments and no interest. SSG Retired

We do have a small peacekeeping force in the Sinai Peninsula in Egypt, between Egypt and Israel. It’s basically the only UN mission the US military takes part in.They even have their own website: the Multinational Force & ObserversIt’s important to note that the Sinai =/= Cairo, and no one assigned to that mission would say they’re in Cairo since they are not actually anywhere near the city itself. (The MFO main camp is something on the order of 150–200 miles away from Cairo) I’m not sure the unit rotating in or out of that mission would go through Cairo at all even.However, all those details are a moot point. The moment they start asking you for money (or worse, iTunes gift cards), ESPECIALLY if it’s to pay for any routine admin business (Real US Soldiers NEVER have to pay a single cent to obtain, fill out, submit ANY paperwork or other forms, including Leave, or have to pay to take leave, don’t have to pay for a replacement, or to come home or anything else for that matter. Neither does the Military lock down their bank accounts. It neither has the authority, nor the inclination to do so…and the Soldiers will continue to get paid via direct deposit into the bank account of their choice on the 1st and 15th of each and every month like clockwork.If they have enough internet access to be email random strangers…they can check their online banking and pay bills or buy stuff to their heart's content on Amazon dot com…which overindulgence on that last part is really the only reason they’d be running low on funds.So yeah, if they start asking you for money for basically any reason, they’re attempting to scam you…don’t send any money and cut off all contact with them. You might as well pile up your cash and burn it in a bonfire for the same effect and helpfulness towards Soldiers if you wire it anyway.If on the other hand you do decide to start wiring random stranger on the internet money…I would suggest you wire me the money instead for my services in writing this answer…? lol
