I live in San Antonio and I prefer it over the others. I haven’t spent much time in Dallas, so I can’t really comment on it.San Antonio—Believe it or not we have a diverse job sector, we aren’t all in the military. We have a large Biosciences and Health Care Industry, we are second only to DC in cybersecurity (lots of civilians involved here), we have a Toyota plant and Rack Space is headquartered here as well as USAA, one of the largest insurers in the country. Valero, a large oil and gas company is also headquartered here.We also have several schools of higher learning. UTSA (UT at San Antonio) has 35,000 students. We have 5 other well-respected private universities and a new branch of Texas A&M plus 5 community colleges.We have a very diverse community and we are pretty well intermingled. My daughter went to public high school with kids from all over the world (Kenya, Pakistan, Guyana, Saudi Arabia, India, Russia, Mexico, Colombia, China, etc).Houston may have more museums, but I think San Antonio has more cultural activities when it comes to different ethnicities. We have festivals going on all the time.San Antonio is very pretty. Sure we have some places that are generic USA, but if you drive through the city there’s plenty of variety. Sometimes I like to play tourist in my own home town. The Riverwalk is beautiful and has been greatly expanded, so it’s not all touristy. They are rejuvenating Hemisfair Park, Main Plaza is really nice and if you want to go downtown you can park on Tuesdays for free. We have greenway trails all over the city that are eventually going to join up and circle the city. When you are on them, you feel like you’re out in the country.Tourism is also a large industry here, so there’s plenty to do—visit our historical downtown and Riverwalk, the Missions (now a UNESCO site), the Pearl Brewery— which is now a mixed-use development featuring top-rated restaurants, unique shops, the CIA (culinary institute, not you know), and upscale apartments, Sea World, Six Flags Fiesta Texas, several museums including the San Antonio Museum of Art in the refurbished Lone Star Brewery, the Quarry Market—a shopping mall made out of the refurbished Alamo Cement Factory, King William Historic District, Southtown for first Fridays, etc, etcSure the weather is hot here, but it’s hot everywhere in Texas. It’s definitely better than Houston: the humidity there is a killer.We are 3 hours from the beach and Mexico (although I wouldn’t recommend a trip to the border cities, better to fly into the interior.)It’s a great place to raise kids.We have a diverse food scene, and believe it or not we have some nationally recognized chefs.Has a mix of liberals and conservatives.We are a bilingual city, you will hear Spanish spoken every day.It’s just south of the hill country.Austin—Used to be weird, isn’t really anymore, now it’s pretty yuppified.It’s the most expensive city in Texas.It’s pretty, and near the hill country like San Antonio.UT is a great school and has a beautiful campus, but very hard to get into these days.Has a great food scene.Has the fittest people in Texas, Austinites are pretty active.Has the most Hipsters.Is the most liberal.probably the biggest tech areaHouston—Ugh the weatherUgh the trafficGood food scenelots of museumsdiverse populationnear the coastugh the refineries
